ThefollowingisanexcerptfrommyinterviewwithTravisdescribinghismilitaryinvolvement. IcompletedtraininginVirginiaandwasstationedinGermany,Katterbauchwith501st MilitaryIntelligence.AfterbeingthereforaroundayearIwassenttoIraq,Kuwait,SaudiArabia, andvariousotherplacesaswewerejoinedwith1stArmorDivision.Purposeofourunitwasto gatherintel...ThisincludeddeliveryofinformationfromunittounitduringDesertStorm.These actionswerecompletedatnightandnolightwasallowed.Mostofthetravelwasdone,almost 100%,byGPSandnightvision.

Afterbeingdebriefedwewereremindedthatmanyoftheissues duringthistimeweresecretclearancerequiredandconsequenceswouldoccurifspecificdetails wereprovided. The501stMilitaryIntelligenceBattalion,aunitoftheU.S.MilitaryIntelligenceCorps,was headquarteredinWackernheim,Germany,withbarracksinDexheimandKatterbach.Itwasconstituted onOctober20,1950intheRegularArmy,andinactivatedinMayof2007,forreasonsunspecified.Its mottowasOutfront,anditwasinvolvedintheengagementsoftheKoreanWar,OperationDesert

StormandOperationIraqiFreedom.ItalsoreceivedtwoMeritoriousUnitCommendationsfromthe Army,andaRepublicofKoreaPresidentialUnitCitation. Thentheresthe1stArmoredDivision.ThisisthestandingarmoreddivisionoftheU.S.Army, andwasthefirstarmoreddivisiontoseebattleinWorldWarII.ItsbaseofoperationsisinFortBliss, Texas.Itsfirstgeneral,MajorGeneralBruceR.Magruder,nicknamedthedivisionOldIronsidesafter seeingapictureofthefrigateUSSConstitution,whichbearsthesamenickname.The1stArmored Divisionconsistsofthe1stArmoredRegiment,13thArmoredRegiment,6thArmoredInfantryRegiment andthe16thEngineerBattalion.IthasbeeninvolvedinWorldWarII,OperationDesertStorm,andthe GlobalWaronTerrorism.
