Denmarks Thomas Larsen Wins First PBA International Tour Title in Abu Dhabi
By Bill Vint - PBA ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates Denmarks Thomas Larsen captured his first Professional Bowlers Tour title, defeating Finlands Mika Koivuniemi, 239280, 247-204, in the title match of the Abu Dhabi World Bowling Tour Open at Khalifa Bowling Center. Larsen collected $30,000 for his top prize and Koivuniemi earned $19,000. Larsen, who entered the modified stepladder finals as the top qualifier, lost the opening game against Koivuniemi, who had to defeat Larsen twice to win, but the 24-year-old Danish star rescued his first PBA International Tour title by winning the second game. In doing so, he also denied Koivuniemi a fourth PBA International Tour title during the 2012-13 season. "I did well too in the first game, but Mika had better carry, Larsen told Asian Bowling Federation representative Terrence Yaw. In the second match, he made a few bad shots and that gave me the chance to win if I can focus on my game. "I'm completely thrilled to have won my first World Tour title. In fact this is my first major title apart from one (European Bowling Tour) title I won this year." In the preliminary matches, Hong Kongs Wu Siu Hong won two opening shootout matches and eliminated Englands Dom Barrett in match three, but Koivuniemi ended his titles hopes in the semifinal match, 258-165.

BBIA Honor Bill and Barbara Chrisman

Couple Recognized for their Contribution to the Sport of Bowling
By Bill Supper ARLINGTON, Texas - Each year the Billiard and Bowling Institute of America (B.B.I.A) presents the Industry Service Award to a leading personality in the billiard and bowling industry. This award recognizes the recipient's contribution to the promotion of their respective sport. This year's recipients are the owners of Storm Bowling Products, Inc., Bill and Barbara Chrisman. The Chrismans are known in the bowling industry for their generosity and efforts to grow the sport of bowling. They can frequently be seen on nearly all televised bowling events supporting the sport's premier athletes. The Storm, Roto Grip, and Master logos can be seen in many bowling events and arenas that are supported by Storm Products, Inc. High Score Products, the beginning of the Chrismans vision, was originally founded in 1985 to market a new product called U Clean / U Score, a urethane ball cleaner. In 1991 the Chrismans began producing a small quantity of OEM bowling balls. In 1994, after several weeks of deliberation the Chrismans decided to change the name of the company from High Score Products to Storm. With the addition of products and gaining popularity, the company name was officially changed to the current name, Storm Products, Inc. Since then Storm has grown to become the leading manufacturer of high performance bowling balls. The name Storm has become synonymous with innovation and quality. "It is my pleasure to announce the recipients of the 2014 BBIA Industry Service Award will be Bill and Barbara Chrisman," commented BBIA Executive Director, Bill Supper. "They will join past recipients Earl Anthony, Minnesota Fats, Paul Newman, Carmen Salvino, and last year's recipient, Mike Aulby." In the past the Chrismans have also been awarded the William Landgraf Memorial Award for Distinguished Service, the John Davis Memorial Award, and the International Bowling Pro Shops and Instructors of America's Friendship Award. Their service and dedication to bowling are unmatched in the industry.

There is no such thing as tournament time---because there are fine tournaments being conducted 12 months of the year. Ever stop to think of how many bowling tournaments are available in the world each year? An educated guess might put the figure at more than 10,000. There are big money, small money and no money tournaments. There are family, school, church, business, profession, city, county, state, sectional, national, zone, continent and world tournaments. There are pro tournaments and amateur tournaments and pro-amateur tournaments. There are singles, doubles and team tournaments. There are events for boys, girls, men, women and mixed covering every age. There are sibling tournaments, husband and wife, father and son, mother and daughter, and any other relationship tournaments. There are club tournaments and shop tournaments and office tournaments and religious tournaments. There are tournaments for people who can't see or can't walk or can't hear. And with all that only a small percentage of the number and scope of the variety of bowling tournaments staged annually have been touched upon. Yet, many bowlers never have rolled in a tournament. Let it be known that there is a tournament for every bowler, regardless of the size of your average---or budget. Look through any bowling publication, check the desk or bulletin board at your bowling centers and read all your communications and you're sure to find one or two tournaments designed

just for you. Tournament bowling is the extra icing on the bowling cake. Tournament bowling is fun, and always profitable. It isn't always profitable in a financial sense, though many have won cash, merchandise, trips, and other goodies, large and small. But you always enter into a new and exciting phase of the sport where the competition is different but the game is the same. How can you tell if a tournament is a good one? Check out those conducting the tournament, where it is being run, and read closely all the rules and fine print on the entry blank. A tournament survives only if bowlers are given a fair shake and tournaments don't last unless they have needed participation. In many tournaments, particularly local and state and national association events, plus most charity tournaments, many dedicated people work hours that would stagger the

imagination. In some tournaments you can win six figures or more. In others you can't win much more than satisfaction in being a player, and or maybe a title and trophy, be it thimble size or taller than you are. You can't gain the full rewards bowling offers unless you roll in tournaments even now and then. So give your local or state tournament a whirl. Don't miss some of the fine competition your local center offers. Check out tournament clubs. There is as wide a variety in tournaments as there is in the aims of bowlers but bowlers can find the right one with a little effort. If you've never rolled a tournament, roll one in the near future. If you have, roll one more. There can be problems at times, like when the nudist convention ran a bowling tournament. Nobody looked at the scores.
