These may be designed with specific features such as high payload capacity, long endurance or for UAV application such as surveillance. Key project phases Design Analysis Fabrication testing Areas covered Aircraft design, unconventional configuration, extensive aircraft performance analysis. CAD modelling, simple aerodynamic analysis followed by control simulation and instrumentation

PROJECT TITLES 1. 2. 3. 4. Optimization of a pusher type electric UAV for maximum payload capacity Development and testing of an agile/acrobatic aircraft as a technical demonstrator Configuration of a fixed wing aircraft for long endurance using solar power Development and testing of a canard wing aircraft with composite construction

2. MULTI COPTER AIRCRAFTS Aircrafts involving 2 or more rotors to achieve VTOL may be preferred. Multicopter may be tricopters, quadcopter, hexcopter, octocopter and variants of the same. These may be radio controlled or autonomous. The radio controlled version may be used in verification of unconventional airframe or rotor configuration. The resulting product may be prototyped for commercial applications. They may also be designed to carry out a specific task. An autonomous UAV may be developed to carry out a specific mission such as surveillance/moving objects/ predictable missions. This generally involves certain flight path planning and programming activies For example Development of a robust tricopter Budget: 20-30k Steps involved Hand calculation, initial sizing, CFD simulation, structural analysis, Construction and instrumentation Detailed flight testing.

Development of an autonomous Tricopter for surveillance Budget: 60-80k The tricopter may be developed for a longer endurance >30min. The build quality would ensure more durability. Includes use of composite materials in fabrication. Steps involved Literature survey on autonomous multirotor vehicles. Hand calculations Initial sizing Design (CATIA/autocad) Analysis structural and CFD (ANSYS) Control engineering and simulations Fabrication and instrumentation Flight testing
