The Ice Man and his DNA. In 1991, hikers in the Alps between Austria and Italy spotted a corpse frozen in the ice, with some tools and a dagger nearby. Four days later, the body, now known as Ice Man, was removed and brought to the University of Innsbruck in Austria, where scientists found that it was 5,000 years old. An arrow had killedhim, and he froze into the ice. Remarkably, his DNA was preserved inside his bones. When its information was analyzed, it was similar in its information content to the DNAs of Europeans currently living in the European alpine regions. That DNA lasts so long is testimony to its durability. Its structure is testimony to something else. B. DNA as secular icon. An icon is an image or symbolic representation, often with sacred significance. The 20th century saw the emergence of two great icons that symbolized science in the public mind: the atom, with its whizzing electrons, and DNAdeoxyribonucleic acidwith its double helix. People talk about DNA all the time, as a shorthand. An ad for a financial services company tells customers that it understands the DNA of business. A perfume called DNA is the essence of life. Amedia software system is the DNA server. A clothing line called DNA Divewear advertises genetic design-extreme behavior. And of course, a biotechnology company has the stock market symbol DNA. Now a days in interviews people candidates Using Just One Word, Try to Describe Your Career DNA (Dynamic Natural Abilities ) . DNA is a subject for artists as well. Salvador Dali used the double helix. A portrait of Nobel laureate Sir John Sulston has parts of his DNA inside bacteria cells. Brazilian artist Eduardo Kac used the chemical building blocks of DNA to translate verses from the Bible; viewers can change the DNA and the verses it represents at will. Playgrounds have DNA-shaped slides. And of course, many DNA-based sculptures adorn the lobbies of laboratories and pharmaceutical companies. DNA(Daily News and Analysis) is a name of newspaper in MUMBAI . A teacher after getting no reply of a question , describes his student as DNA student (did not answer or does notknow answer ) .Finally in Biochemistry there is difference between dna or Dna (small lettered ) and DNA(capital lettered ) DNA is a polynucleotide while small lettered dna or Dna is the initiator protein in replication of DNA . DnaA or dnaA is found in all eubacteria analyzed so far. The name derives from the fact that dnaA was the first mutant isolated that is affected in DNA replication.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fundamental reason for studying genetics (may be used in the 2nd page of the book before
preface ) All diseases have a genetic component. Mutations may be inherited or developed in response to environmental stresses such as viruses or toxins The ultimate goal of studying GENETICS should be to use this information to treat, cure, or if possible, prevent the development of disease which is the aim of this book
