Many have stated that it is impossible to know whether or not we are living in the last days before the second coming of Jesus Christ. However, below you will find dramatic proof that these are the endtimes. The proofs below defy coincidence.

Euphrates River to Be Dried Up

In Revelation 16:12, the Bible predicts that the Euphrates River will be dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the east to invade Israel. This will happen at the time of the battle of Armageddon according to verse 16 of the same chapter. The battle of Armageddon will be the final battle at which time Jesus will return and fight on the side of the nation of Israel. Immediately thereafter He will establish His kingdom and usher in His one thousand-year reign of peace. On January 13, 1990, the Indianapolis Star carried the headline Turkey Will Cut Off Flow of Euphrates for One Month. The article stated that a huge reservoir had been built by Turkey. While filling up the reservoir, the flow of the Euphrates would be stopped for one month and a concrete plug for a diversion channel built. These things have now been done. With this newly built dam, Turkey has the ability to stop the Euphrates River at will. The conditions for fulfilling this 1,900 year-old prophecy are now in place.

In Revelation 9:15-16, the Bible prophesies that an army of 200 million soldiers will launch a war which would kill the third part of men. Never in the history of the world until our present generation has there been a power on earth that could field 200 million soldiers. However, the late ruler of China, Mao Tse Tung boasted in his diary that he could field an army of 200 million. The CIA World Factbook reports that in the year 2001, it is estimated that China has 200,886,946 men of military age, and this number is growing by 10 million per year.

Worldwide Numbering System Predicted In Revelation 13, the Bible prophesies that a
world dictator will soon rule over a world government. He will cause all people in the earth to receive a number without which they will be unable to buy or sell. We are seeing this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes in a most astonishing way. Nearly every human being in the world now has been assigned a number. In America it is our Social Security number. In the past few years, we have seen this number extended to newborns. A child without a Social Security number cannot be declared as a dependent on an income tax return. We have seen the emergence of electronic money, shopping with credit cards, and many people urging the abolishment of cash. All of these things could not possibly have been fulfilled until this present time. Only after the invention of the computer could such a worldwide numbering system be administered.

Revelation 13:7 and Daniel 7:23 prophesy the establishment of a world government. The term New World Order has become a prevalent phrase in the worlds political culture. Mikhail Gorbachev made the term famous, and Pope John Paul II has referred to it repeatedly. In the September 12, 1990 issue of the Chicago Tribune, our former president George Bush said, Iraq is the first test for the New World Order. He emphatically stated that the Iraq War is Saddam Hussein against the world. The United Nations troops are continually referred to as the multi-national forces. The decision has been made to establish an interdependent community of nations that will rule the world under United Nations authority. The Bible says that this will lead us into a great world government. The formation of this government is at hand.

n our last editorial, we were speculating on whether the war with Iraq would occur. Now we find ourselves deep into it. At first, we were told that the war would probably be over in a week or three. In todays news, we are reading speculation that the war may last between four months and a year. Every day we are hearing news reports about U.S. and British troops engaged in battles along the Euphrates River. Two major prophecies of the Bible speak of the role of the Euphrates River in endtime prophetic fulfillment. In this edition of Endtime, we attempt to make some sense of the prophecies about the destruction of Babylon and the War of the Euphrates. The jury is still out on whether this is the prophesied war that will kill one-third of mankind. By the time of your next magazine, we should have a much better handle on the future of this war.

Saddam: One who confronts?

Whats On Your Mind? Endtime Wants to Know.

You say that Saddam translated means The Destroyer. I was watching the History Channel a few weeks ago, and they said that Saddam means one who confronts. David Reply: You are correct. That History Channel documentary does say that his name means one who confronts. I have two documents in my files: The German Tribune from March 1991, and the Jerusalem Post from December 1997. Both state that Saddam means The Destroyer. We show the actual articles and the context in which they appear in our updated The Iraqi War in Bible Prophecy video (or DVD). We re-filmed this lesson on February 20. Sometimes in translations a word will have several possible meanings, depending upon which one the translator judges is more appropriate for the context. There are also different dialects of Arabic. Both translations are valid. Last week one of our radio listeners, Deborah, forwarded a November 16, 1998, article to us, entitled, Whats the Name of Saddam Hussein? by Bruce Gottlieb at Microsofts news site (slate.msn.com). The article reads: Saddam Hussein has no family name. Rather Hussein is the name his parents gave the nascent dictator, and Saddam is an epithet he adopted before he grabbed power, and is derived from the Persian word meaning crush. Saddam Hussein is best translated as Hussein-WhoCrushes-Obstacles or Hussein-the-Destroyer. The piece credits Professor of the Practice of Persian and Other Near Eastern Languages Wheeler M. Thackston, Jr. of Harvard University for his help in answering the question posed in the articles title.

John the Baptist raised from the dead. Then Jesus asked, Whom do you say that I am? Peter declared, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. This is when Jesus declared, Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. I have heard people state that the whole church is built on the fact that Peter was given the keys to the kingdom, and that Peter was the rock on which the church was built. Therefore the infallibility of the pope is what makes the church invincible, because when everything is said and done, the pope is the final authority on earth. Whatever he binds on earth will be bound in heaven. Is this a correct interpretation of scripture? Bob Reply: Your question highlights a gross misunderstanding of what Matthew 16 is teaching. Jesus was not saying that Peters infallibility, or the popes infallibility, would be the issue upon which He would build His church. He said that He would build His church on the truth that Peter had declared, Thou art the Christ (the Messiah). Because of their claim to the position of Vicar of the Son of God, popes have allowed people to bow down before themto genuflect, to pay homage. We read in the Bible that Peter stopped a person from bowing before him, because it was forbidden. This should only be done before God.

Bothered By Bush Bashers

I have to work to keep from getting irritated by some of the angry (and in my humble opinion, irrational) callers who blame President Bush for being the most evil Satan. You do a great job walking the middle and while remaining cautious, not letting people accuse him of being the Antichrist. Two of my oldest and closest friends have been and are very close to him. President Bush actually has and who some of the decision makers around him really are. We are disturbed by his membership in the Skull & Bones Society at Yale. The organization is so secret that its difficult to know what its about. We have learned that part of the initiation ritual is to lie in a casket, supposedly entering into some covenant with death. Is this a harmless college club, or is it something more? I dont know. I have never laid in a coffin, experiencing some kind of death ritual. Still, perhaps it is harmless. Division of Temple Mount foretold?

Reply: Most of us, as Americans, certainly hope that what you are saying is true. We sometimes wonder how much control Zechariah 1:16 says, Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am ENDTIME MAGAZINE MARCH/APRIL 2003 7

returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. Could this be the line that is put across the Temple Mount by the Quartet so that the Temple can be built on one side while the Dome of the Rock is on the other side? Jen Reply: I dont believe this prophecy has reference to our present time. Zechariah 1:12 reveals the time frame of this prophecy. Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? Notice that the seventy years that Jeremiah prophesied that Israel would be captive in Babylon is referred to here. This prophecy of the rebuilding of Jerusalem was fulfilled when Ezra, Nehemiah and Zerubbabel built the Second Temple. When the passage says that a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem, it is referring to the surveying instruments of the builders. The Knox translation renders the passage, Jerusalem shall see masons plummet busy once again.

everyone will have to use either the number of the beast, his name, or his mark. Everybody seems to focus just on the number 666. I think its going to be more subtle than that. Everyone knows that prophecy. It will be done in a way to where people will feel like theyre not really taking the mark of the beast. But if you read the prophecy it clearly gives a choice: its the name of the beast, or the number of his name, or his mark. Jack Reply: Well put. Many people who think they know about the mark of the beast are going to end up taking it. Jesus said in Matthew 24:24, speaking of the time of the great tribulation, that if possible the very elect would be deceived. The question is where do we draw the line? When the mark of the beast is actually implemented, a person will have to pledge allegiance to the one world governmental system and its leader. If you are required to do certain things in order to access the international economic system, thats the time to jump ship. We are certain that God will give us insight when the mark of the beast actually arrives so that we can warn subscribers to Endtime magazine and listeners of Politics & Religion. I am sure many others will be sounding the alarm as well. We can presently enjoy some peace of mind knowing that the system cannot happen yet. The Bible says that the Antichrist must first be revealed. This occurs at the time of the abomination of desolation, which happens halfway through the final seven-year period.

Submerged Missiles in Euphrates

I had heard on the BBC that there are satellite images of four missile sites buried under water in the Euphrates River. Is this true? Could they be the four angels of the Euphrates? Rick Reply: We heard the same rumors, but have no solid documentation.

Saddam: The Antichrist?

Do you have any verse in the Bible that would eliminate Saddam Hussein from being the Antichrist? Paul Reply: Daniel 11:21: states that the Antichrist shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. It doesnt presently seem like Saddam could fulfill this passage. He took control in Iraq by way of an armed coup. Scripture also tells us that the Antichrist will rise to power from a union of ten kings. As of right now, we dont see any way that Hussein has fulfilled that prophecy.

More Than a Mark

The prophecy about Babylons destruction

There it isas crystal clear as it can be. The Revelation 14:8 prophecy plainly predicts the future fall of Babylon. Listen to it: Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. Knowing that this prophecy about the

coming fall of Babylon exists, and knowing that the United States and Great Britain are attacking Iraqthe nation that contains ancient Babylon, we simply must ask ourselves if the prophesied fall of Babylon is at hand. There are prophetic prognosticators in abundance ready to quickly and loudly proclaim that the time for the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy has arrived. But lets see what the scriptures actually say.

When will the prophesied fall of Babylon happen?

Revelation 16:16 announces the beginning of the Battle of Armageddon: And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. The next three verses record the fall of Babylon the Great. And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the airand great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the

cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. This passage clearly teaches us that the destruction of Babylon will take place at the time of the Battle of Armageddon. Since we know that the Battle of Armageddon occurs at the end of the Great Tribulation, after the reign of the Antichrist and after the mark of the beast, it is obvious that the pending war with Iraq will not be the prophesied destruction of Babylon. wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. Verses 17 and 18 establish for certain when this destruction of Babylon was to occur: Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. The above scriptures teach us that this particular prophesied destruction of Babylon would occur during the era of the Babylonian empire of Nebuchadnezzar. Furthermore, verses 39-40 declared that Babylon would never again be inhabited. Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever

Literal Babylon vs. Mystery Babylon

The physical city of Babylon was originally built by Nimrod after the flood. It was located on the Euphrates River, about 55 miles south of where Baghdad, Iraq stands today. The name Babylon came from the Tower of Babel that was constructed there. Babylon became a large city of global prominence around 1728 B.C. during the reign of Hammurabi. The glory years of Babylon were achieved under Nebuchadnezzar II (604-562 B.C.). The city declined during the reign of Belshazzar, and came to ruin when Xerxes, the Persian king, destroyed it in 478 B.C. Thus Jeremiahs prophesied destruction of Babylon was accomplished, and, just as the prophecy said, it has never been inhabited to this day. Saddam Hussein launched a project to rebuild Babylon in the late 1980s, but the effort was halted by Gulf War I and has yet to be resumed. But if Babylon is never to be rebuilt, why are two entire chapters of the book of Revelation devoted to the destruction of Babylon? And why is the destruction of Babylon clearly described as occurring at the time of Armageddon? The Babylon described in Revelation is called Mystery Babylon. The entire ministry of the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah was devoted to prophesying the destruction of Jerusalem and the carrying away of Israel into Babylonian captivity. He also prophesied the return of Israel to Jerusalem after 70 years and foretold the ultimate destruction of Babylon. The prophecy against Babylon is found in Jeremiah 50:1-23. The prophecy of Jeremiah clearly stated that Babylon would be destroyed, never to be inhabited again. Yet the book of Revelation prophesies the destruction of Babylon at the time of Armageddon. How do we reconcile what appears to be a biblical contradiction?

Notice in the above prophecy that a woman is used to symbolize Mystery Babylon. Verse 18 of the chapter tells us that the woman is a city. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Clue #2Mystery Babylon presides over a vast international system

In verse 1, we are told that the woman sits on many waters. Verse 15 explains the meaning of the waters. And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. Not only is this woman a city, but the city is apparently the headquarters over a vast international system.

Clue #3The city sits on 7 hills

In verse 3, we are told that the woman rides on a beast with 7 heads. Verse 9 reveals the meaning of the 7 heads. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. Remember, weve already learned that the woman is a city. This passage tells us that the city sits on seven mountains. Remember, this prophecy was written long before the Catholic Church existed and long before Rome became her headquarters. Hills. Mystery Babylon is to sit on peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues. Rome is headquarters for the Roman Catholic Church, claiming one billion members worldwide. Mystery Babylon is described as being clothed in purple and red. The official colors of the two ruling bodies of the Roman Church are purple and red. One other factor should be understood. In Revelation 17, God chose to use a womana whoreto symbolize the Roman Catholic Church. Why? Its really very simple. In scripture, God always used a woman to symbolize a church. He used a virgin to represent His true church (II Corinthians 11:2), and He used a harlot to represent a false church as he did in Revelation 17-19. There can be only one conclusion: The Vatican is the Mystery Babylon of Revelation. And it is this false religious system that has deceived the people of the world that will be destroyed at the time of Armageddon. Revelation 9:13-16 prophesies a war that will kill one-third of mankindtwo billion people. It states that this war will begin in the area of the Euphrates River. Most of the Euphrates River is in Iraq the nation with which the U.S. is currently at war. If this war with Iraq is indeed the one prophesied in Revelation 9:13-16, the face of the world will be changed forever. The cry for peace and security will give birth to a system of global law that will throw the planet into one-world government. The horrible carnage of two billion dead and the aftermath of nuclear war will create the perfect scenario for the ascent of the Antichrist into power. This unprecedented disaster will also accelerate the implementation of the Road Map for Peace by the International Community, The Quartet, upon Israel and the Palestinians (see article on page 22). It appears that the anticipated Middle East agreement will be the confirmation of the covenant, which triggers the final seven years to Armageddon. The coming war with Iraq will not be the end of the world. It will not be Armageddon. And it will not be the prophesied destruction of Mystery Babylon. But it could very possibly be the worst war the world has ever known!

Revelation 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: There are two ruling bodies in the Roman Catholic Church: The College of Cardinals and the College of Bishops and Archbishops. These two bodies are somewhat like the Senate and the House of Representatives here in the U.S. An article appeared in The Criterion, a Roman Catholic publication, July 1, 1988. The article was entitled, More than You Want to Know About Cardinals. It stated, Cardinals wear red, while non-Cardinal Bishops and Archbishops wear purple. So lets review. any experts are concerned that a war with Iraq could spin out of control resulting in World War III. Weve been saying this for months. Our perspective, though, is not so much political as it is prophetic. But neither we nor the political pundits are certain. These are educated guesses, not dogma. The Bush administration had been silent on pondering any worst-case scenarios. Will military victory come with blinding Afghanistan-like speed? Or will the Jimmy Carters of the world be correct in expecting it to spiral into a global carnage? The silence was broken on February 18. For the first time the Bush administration joined the chorus openly discussing, as the New York Times put it, a subject they have sidestepped during the massive buildup of forces around Iraq: what could go wrong not only during an attack, but especially in the aftermath of an invasion. In other words, after convincing the world, especially its own people, that with or without a UN resolution, war is the inevitable reality, the administration finally pulled a secret, crumpled, oh-bythe-way list of catastrophes from its hip

Rumsfelds catalog of risks

In a February 18 interview, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld disclosed that he refers to a regularly updated 4-5 page catalog of risks. With the press he was willing to share only two main items. As for the rest of the potential calamities on his list, well, its still a secret. Here is what the administration is allowing us to know: 1) Saddam may use weapons of mass destruction against his own people and blame it on us, which, according to Rumsfeld, would fit a pattern. 2) Saddam may detonate his own oil fields, as he did to Kuwait in the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War, costing the Iraqi people money they will need to rebuild the nation. (Not mentioned to reporters by Rumsfeld was the immense environmental damage that could be

done, which would make the fires of Kuwait look like a campfire.) In the New York Times War Planners Speak of the Risks report, other senior administration officials, unnamed, shared more concerns: Will U.S. military forces be received in the Gulf with open arms or open gun barrels? After months of internal studies, advance planning, and extensive intelligence research, the administration says it doesnt know. Officials are also stating concerns that they may not be able to thoroughly track terrorist operations directed at U.S. interests both home and abroad. Vice Admiral Lowell Jacoby, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said on Capitol Hill that his ability to detect the proliferation of nuclear weapons around the world was being stretched thin, leaving certain areas such as South Asia and North Korea with less coverage than he would prefer. Afghanistan, a military victory that came with greater speed than any had predicted, and with fewer casualties. There is a lot to keep us awake at night, said one official. How long will this go on? Three days, three weeks, three months, three years? They dont know. We dont know either. But there is a prophecy... We remain curious as to what else was on Rumsfelds 4-5 page Catalog Of Risks. CIA director George Tenet let it be known in a recent press conference that North Korean missiles with nuclear bombs are now capable of reaching the U.S. west coast. In February, the country awoke to the news that missiles had been deployed around Washington, D.C. and New York City. Osama bin Laden, and Hamas leaders are openly exhorting Muslims around the world to rise up and fight the Great Satan, the United States of America. Our nations state of readiness against possible terrorist attacks has fluctuated between Elevated to High Alert. From yellow, to orange and almost to red. Its a new day in the Land of the Free.

The scenarios revisited

There is still a possibility that Saddam & Co. will exit quietly and take refuge on the Libyan Riviera. Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence is still trying to get Saddam assassinated by his own high level officials. Significant effort was made to oust the regime without a war, but this effort has now come and gone. What will come to pass? Today we see through a glass darkly. Tomorrow we will have a definitive historical record. Today

all we have are scenarios. Consider these: Will this action escalate beyond the borders of Iraq? It depends in good measure upon whether or not the Islamic fundamentalist extremist community is cohesive enough to hurt the United States on its own soil. Lets take a look. Israel has been on the receiving end of close to 50 suicide bombers since late 2000. How many committed Islamic bombers are needed to dramatically affect the U.S.? It is estimated that 10% of all Muslims in the world fall into the category of extremists. In the U.S., there are estimated to be between 3-6 million Muslims. If 10%...

no, make that 1%... no, lets go with 0.1% If only 0.1% of the Muslims living in the U.S. are among the extremists, then there are between 3,000-6,000 in our midst. It took about ten to bring down the World Trade Center.

Surprise Attack. The military is on a state of alert in case Beijing decides it is going to strike the country while the U.S. is preoccupied with a war on Baghdad, this according to Taiwan, Minister of National Defense Tang Yao-ming. Taipei Times, February 13: China is developing mid-range missiles, deployed inland, that could be used to threaten Taiwan as a substitute for the short-range missiles across the Strait. Another concern is over Chinas greatly expanded naval power, which Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian sees as a most serious threat. U.S. military advisors agree and are telling Taiwan to develop its own missile defense capability and increase its offensive forces to be better prepared for the expected invasion from China. Japan is wanting to work with the U.S. on a missile defense system because of fears of North Koreas ballistic missile program, but wont move forward with the project for fear of angering China, Beijing is concerned that such a system would most likely be extended to include Taiwan. Should the U.S. turn its eyes from the Taiwan Strait for but a split second, it appears that everyone from Taipei to Washington knows what China will do. Sixty suitcase nuclear bombs were made by the Soviet Union in the 1990s. All have disappeared. Unconfirmed intelligence reports allege that Osama bin Laden bought 20 of them in 1998. Are any of them in the U.S.? In the meantime, India has been itching to move against Pakistan and settle the battle over Kashmir. Both Pakistan and India have nuclear weapons and have given every indication that they are inclined to use them. North Korea has put forth the possibility of launching a preemptive attack and invading South Korea, a situation the U.S. will not tolerate. Furthermore, North Korea knows full well that George W. Bush has every intention of doing to them tomorrow as he is doing to Iraq today. For the U.S., knocking the rogues off one at a time is easier than trying to do it all at once. This is another reason why North Korea, China, India, Pakistan and the Muslim world may seize on this upcoming opportunity. Then again, they may not. But we cannot ignore all of the facts.

Where might this lead, and when? Friends, we all have the same information, so it is up to each of us to decide for ourselves. What does the prophecy say?

prophecy states that a war is coming that will kill the third part of mankind. That calculates to 2 billion people. Revelation 9:14 tells us that the war will originate from the area of the Euphrates River. Most of the Euphrates River is in Iraq the nation the U.S. is right now preparing to attack. Consequently, the possibility that the current war with Saddam Hussein could trigger the prophesied apocalyptic war is very high. On the other hand, the prophesied war may stall for two, three or four years. But it will happen. The Bible says so. The prophecy factor increases the possibility that it will happen now. Opinion, Not Prediction

I am curious to know what your views would be if your predictions dont play out as you believe they will. Whats the difference between you and a fortune teller? I agree with some of what you say, but I believe it to be arrogant to say that you know for sure! What makes you so sure that were ready for the 6th Trumpet? What makes you absolutely sure that the 5th Trumpet has fully sounded? Arent you concerned that you might be leading people astray? Dont you think God will hold you accountable? There. You have just experienced a small sampling of the letters and emails we have received in the last week or two regarding our prediction that the upcoming war with Iraq is the war that will kill two billion people. The feedback makes sense. This is what people are hearing. It is not, however, what is being said. The joys of live radio include the luxury of not having to pre-plan how something will be communicated. It mostly comes from the heart. Prophetic principles come to life through the unfolding of world events. Discussions evolve. As the programs co-host, I will occasionally make the tongue-in-cheek comment, Irvin, this next question is not in todays script, but... You see, there is no script. Its a case of an ever-inquisitive co-host pummeling the host with questions and requests for clarification. The approach can have its downsides. I know what were saying, but what are they hearing? Are they hearing what were saying? for what they hear is often more important than what we say. Perception becomes reality, and I have often suspected that we are not being heard. Case in point: Our prediction that the upcoming war with Iraq will be the 6th Trumpet.

Caller: Have you been predicting that we are staring into the face of the dreaded 6th Trumpet war? Baxter: No. Caller: It sounds like you have. Baxter: Ive been saying that we could very well be. Its my personal opinion that we are, but Im not certain. Caller: Youve offered odds75/25. If it doesnt come off, what then? Does this make you a false prophet? Baxter: If I were rating this from my vantage point, I would say the possibility of the U.S. going to war is about 95%, and the possibility that this war will be the the one prophesied in Revelation 9:13-16, to be about 70% based on my Bible knowledge. Im not prophesying. I have received no angelic visits bearing timetables from God. Caller: How do I take your opinion? Im looking to you for predictions. Baxter: Thats a mistake. But heres one prediction you can take to the bank: A war is coming that will kill one-third of the worlds population, or two billion people. Thats a prediction. But its not mine. Its Gods. What I am saying is that the time for the war could be now. On this I am not 100%. Although I didnt put a time frame on it, I knew the Berlin Wall was coming down 21 years in advance, and taught about it long before it occurred. But frankly, I think the evidence about this war is even more compelling than the evidence I had about the Berlin Wall. Still, its not a prediction. Its an opinion. If this doesnt pan out to be the 6th Trumpet, it means that my assessment was off. Caller: Gotcha!

A responsible approach
I have great respect for reasonable scenarios based on a knowledge of Bible prophecy coupled with signs leading toward those fulfillments. This is quite different from fortune telling based on reading palms, Tarot cards, Ouija boards, psychics, Nostradamus quatrains, or some other such nonsense. Is the practice of seeing how a prophe-

cy might come to pass irresponsible? Lets go to the Bible for the answer. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecyRevelation 19:10. The great commission tells me to testify about Jesus. John the Revelator tells me this can be accomplished by sharing prophecy. So I do. I tell you these things before they come to pass, so that when they do come to pass, you might believe paraphrase of John 13:19 and 14:29. Prophecy builds faith. Thats good. So we study the prophecies and the signs of the times. We do not let the Associated Press interpret the Bible for us. We know more today than we did yesterday. We have always known and taught that all it might take is one disaster. One came on September 11, 2001. Would it be arrogant to say that we know for sure? Of course not. There are some things we can know for certain. The war will happen. Thats not arrogant. Are we concerned about leading people astray and being held accountable by God? Absolutely. Thats why we try to be careful by presenting facts as facts, and opinions as opinions. Are we sure were ready for the 6th Trumpet? Not completely. Are we convinced that the 5th Trumpet has fully sounded? No. Evaluate the evidence we have presented in the past and make your own assessment. Is this fortune telling? No, we are presenting reasonable scenarios based on our best understanding of the information God has given to us in His word. Forget everything you have read to this point, because the most important question has yet to be asked. All others pale in comparison. Its this: Regardless of when it happens... will you be ready? Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates, reads Revelation 9:14-15. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. Endtime Editor Receives National Attention

n early March, dozens of major newspapers from Washington, to Sydney, Australia reprinted an article by Bill Broadway from the Washington Post about how the Iraqi war could be a fulfillment of a prophecy in Revelation. The story was based in good measure on Endtime editor Irvin Baxter Jr.s view, and rebutted by New Testament scholar Dr. Craig Hill from Wesley Theological Seminary. During our last tour to Israel, a man traveling by himself asked if he could tag along with my tour group as we explored the hill of Megiddo in northern Israel, recalls Baxter. I was delighted to have him. I didnt know that he was a reporter from the Washington Post. Knowing that Endtimes editor would be a prime source for an article he was writing on the impending war, Broadway called Baxter on March 5th for comments; the article appeared three days later, and was cited as well by numerous television stations across the country. After the Los Angeles Times picked up the story, MSNBC requested Baxter to appear live on their network, an arrangement which could not come to fruition due to scheduling conflicts. Iraqi war may turn out to be a real Revelation

and faster. There is an inexplicable soberness in the air, a sense of impending doom. I am not afraid, just keenly aware of the solemnity of the situation. According to a recent Time/CNN poll, more than a third of Americans say they now are paying more attention to how the news might relate to the end of the world. Fifty-nine percent say they believe that the foretold events in the Bibles book of Revelation are going to come true. I must admit I find the book of Revelation more confusing than the current tax code. But I am among the 59 percent who believe that the prophecies contained therein will come true. Indeed, I believe that some already have. Irvin Baxter, host of the syndicated radio program Politics and Religion, has studied Bible prophecy for more than 25 years. He is the editor of the most widely circulated prophecy magazine in the world and has authored several prophecy books and Bible studies.

Mr. Baxter doesnt claim to know everything about everything, but if anyone can make Revelation understandable, he can. Unlike many of his peers, he doesnt believe that the final battle of Armageddon is upon us. Armageddon will come, he says, but not just yet. According to Mr. Baxters interpretation of Scripture, the next major world event will be a cataclysmic war, involving a 2 million man army, where a third of the worlds populace will be killed. When such a war will happen, Mr. Baxter doesnt know. Between whom such a war will take place, Mr. Baxter isnt positive. But how such a war will be carried out, Mr. Baxter is certain: nuclear weapons. I remember attending a Bible prophecy conference when I was a girl. While a gray-haired man talked of symbolic beasts, a world government and the number 666, I chewed my nails and quaked.

It wasnt until the events of Sept. 11 that my childhood beliefs concerning way out there things came to a definitive end. After witnessing evil madmen ramming airplanes into skyscrapers that ultimately toppled amid dazed, dust-covered people staggering through the streets of New York City, I concluded that my childhood philosophies no longer rang true. Indeed, way out there things could happen in my lifetime. Clearly, no one wants to think about 2 billion people dying in a catastrophic war. But, sadly, I can see it happening in my lifetime. Absolutely, I can. In fact, with the vociferous religious tension in the world today, it doesnt sound far-fetched in the least; it sounds inevitable. Of course, part of me wants to quake and chew my nails like the girl at the prophecy conference, wondering what tomorrow will bring. But the other part of me has confidence in whom I have believed, knowing that whatever way out there thing daybreak might reveal, I need not fear. All is well with my soul. Anxious discussions have arisen on prophecy Web sites, in Bible study groups and churches, and at such gatherings as last months 20th International Prophecy Conference in Tampa. Its title: Shaking of Nations: Living in Perilous Times. Many see evidence of Iraqs significance in end-time scenarios in key passages of the apocalyptic book of Revelation. Chapter 16, which includes the only mention of Armageddon in the Bible, carries a direct reference to the Euphrates River, which runs through modern-day Iraq. The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East, writes John, possibly the apostle, of a container of Gods anger emptied on the ancient land of Babylon, now Iraq. The kings will move their armies through the Euphrates valley en route to Har Megiddo (Armageddon) in northern Israel. The Euphrates appears a second time with one of seven angels whose blaring trumpets warn that the Final Judgment is near. Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates, a voice commands the sixth angel of God, whose compliance unleashes agents of death who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year and were released to kill a third of mankind. Then comes the clincher. In Chapter 9, Verse 11 yes, thats 9:11 John says the leader of an army of locusts released to fight humankind is named Abaddon in Hebrew, Apollyon in Greek. Both words mean Destroyer, one of several meanings for the name Saddam. And other countries will take the opportunity to pursue their own interests China trying to retake Taiwan, or India making an all-out assault on Kashmir leading to World War III, he said. The result, Baxter concludes, could be a nuclear holocaust that takes the lives of 2 billion people, the one-third of mankind stated in Revelation. Such talk bothers Craig C. Hill, professor of New Testament at Wesley Theological Seminary in Northwest Washington and one of many biblical scholars who say end-time interpreters distort Scripture to fit their own point of view. Most claim to read the Bible literally yet take bits and pieces from books written centuries apart under different circumstances, he said. Ezekiel, one of the most popular endtime texts, was written in the 6th century B.C. by a Judean priest exiled in Babylon who dreamed of the Jews return to Israel and the restoration of the temple. Revelation was written 600 years later, about A.D. 95, by an exiled Christian leader encouraging churches in Asia Minor to persevere under the hardships of Roman control. Yet prophetic interpreters will take verses from each and combine them to create a reading that justifies their point of view, said Hill, author of In Gods Time: The Bible and the Future. In trying to create one overarching interpretation, they are not allowing for the complexity of the biblical witness to come through, he said. The irony is, in their quest for accuracy, biblical literalists are forced to misread the Bible. More problematic is the fatalistic worldview of apocalyptic thinking, Hill said. Many who obsess about the end of the world fail to enjoy the life they have or reach out to help others in an effort to improve society, he said. They become morally complacent. Those criticisms are of little concern to millions of Americans who were caught up in end-time fever long before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the explosion of the shuttle Columbia fueled even greater speculation on how the world might end. One of the greatest indicators of that interest has been the phenomenal success of the Left Behind series by Tim

LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. Since 1995, when their first book appeared, LaHaye and Jenkins have sold more than 38 million copies of 10 novels set during the end-time period known as the Great Tribulation. The 11th novel, to be released April 8, is titled Armageddon and set partly in Baghdad. Readers tell me theyre dying to know who survives Armageddon for the Glorious Appearing, Jenkins said in a statement. And I cant wait to see what they think when they get to the end. Interest in prophecy increases at times of great instability, said Mark Hitchcock, author of several books on prophecy and pastor of Faith Bible Church in Edmonton, Okla. People want to know whats going to happen, that theres an end [to the turmoil], that someones in control. Hitchcock is a member of a prophecy study group run by LaHaye and generally supports the sequence of events on which the Left Behind story is based: the Rapture, the Antichrists rise to power and the seven years of hell on Earth, Armageddon, and the return of Jesus in the Glorious Appearing all occurring before Jesuss 1,000-year reign on Earth. He said he and other pre-trib guys, those who believe Jesus will rapture believers before the Great Tribulation, are convinced that the Antichrist will rule the world from a restored Babylon. Thats why Hitchcock, too, thinks an invasion of Iraq will be a catalyst for end-time events. According to biographers and news reports, Saddam Hussein fancies himself a modern Nebuchadnezzar, the 6th-century B.C. king who conquered and enslaved the Israelites and brought great prosperity to the land. And he has begun fulfilling prophecy by rebuilding the ancient city of Babylon, Hitchcock said. But he wont be around to enjoy it. Once the U.S. gets Saddam out of the way, sanctions will be lifted, oil wells will flow again at full capacity and Iraq (Babylon) will regain its power, allowing the Antichrist to mount an army for an assault on Israel, he said. The stage is thus set for the Rapture, Armageddon, the Glorious Appearing and the other stages. Hitchcock said he supports the war because the world will be a better place without Saddam Hussein, not because as some prophecy aficionados have said it will be a catalyst for the final days.

Road Map for Peace

sraeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon spent the first year in office attempting to reach a negotiated settlement with Yasser Arafat and the Palestinians. In return he received ever-increasing terrorists attacks. Finally, the violence became intolerable. Sharon declared Arafat irrelevant and refused to deal with or recognize him anymore. At the same time, he launched an all-out counteroffensive against Palestinian terrorism. Israeli forces were sent into Palestinian town after Palestinian town. Militant leaders were arrested or shot. President Bush, having tasted the fruits of terrorism on 9/11, made no objections. At first, the terrorists tried to fight back, but Sharon was done with playing games. The velvet gloves were off. Terrorism was going to be squashed, whatever it took. Little by little, the suicide attacks began to diminish. After close to one year of this no-holdsbarred war against terrorism, the suicide bombings have almost disappeared. In the meantime, the international community reached the conclusion that Israelis and Palestinians would never be able to make peace on their own.

According to Revelation 11:1-2, the Temple Mount will ultimately shared between Jew and gentile. While many believe that Israel is obligated to build her Third Temple where the Dome of the Rock currently sits, it is highly likely a compromise arrangement as depicted above will be reached with the Temple sitting to the Domes north.

The Quartet
The worlds four big powers, the United States, the European Union, the Russian Federation and the United Nations formed a new alliance called the Quartet. Between April and December of 2002, they hammered out a peace plan for the Middle East, which they named the Road Map for Peace. The intention is to present it to Israel and the Palestinians as a nonnegotiable document that the world community expects both parties to accept. The Quartet originally intended to make the plan public on December 20,

2002. However, Israels government was toppled forcing new elections. It was agreed to wait until the new government was formed. The government is now in place, but the United States is embroiled in war with Iraq. President Bush has promised to deal with the issue just as soon as the war is concluded. This Road Map for Peace provides for the establishment of a Palestinian state and for the guarantee of security for the state of Israel. In order to achieve this, final borders between the two states will have to be established. Establishing final borders will require the settling of the most difficult of all issues, the control of the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount is presently under Israeli sovereignty, but under Muslim

administration. Revelation 11:1-2 in the Bible teaches that the Temple Mount will be shared between Jew and Gentile, and that a Jewish temple will stand on part of the Temple Mount. As improbable as that presently seems, it will ultimately happen. The implementation of this pending Road Map for Peace appears to be the prophesied confirmation of the covenant spoken of in Daniel 9:27. According to the prophecy, the confirmation of the covenant begins the final seven years to Armageddon. The international community has set the goal of implementing its Road Map for Peace in 2003. It is going to be fascinating for prophecy students to see if that actually happens.

Why it appears to be
Endtime Ministries has proclaimed loud and long that the projected war with Iraq could be the prophesied war of Revelation 9:13-16 that will kill onethird of mankind. The reasons for this possibility are simple. The prophesied war will begin from the area of the Euphrates River. Iraq is the nation that houses most of the Euphrates. And it appears that the Euphrates war is the next event on Gods prophetic calendar.

Results so far
On March 19th, the dreaded announcement came. The attack on Baghdad has begun. The expectations being projected by the news were overwhelming optimistic. The invasion will be greeted by the Iraqis with open arms, we were told. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was quoted as saying that the war would be over in weeks, not months. Soon, however, it became evident that Great Britain and the United States had seriously miscalculated. Iraqi resistance was much stronger than expected. Allied casualties began to mount. President Bush warned the nation that the war might be longer than expected.

billion are prophesied to die. In his evil axis speech, President Bush listed three evil nations that must be dealt with: Iraq, North Korea and Iran. As the build-up for war with Iraq occurred, North Korea, knowing she was next on President Bushs list, watched unfolding events with intense interest. N. Koreas surprise announcement that she already possesses nuclear weapons sent shock waves around the world. She then proceeded to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty so that she could legally manufacture more nuclear weapons. N. Korea has more than 1 million troops, while the U.S. has only 37,000 troops in S. Korea. Consequently, the threat from N. Korea cannot be taken lightly.

The biggest obstacle to Chinese realization of her ambitions is the United States. President Bush said that America would do whatever it takes to defend Taiwan. If China is to fulfill her threat, what better time to do it than when the U.S. is occupied with Iraq and possibly N. Korea? If 1.3 billion Chinese and 1 billion Indians enter this war, the specter of 2 billion human beings being slaughtered in a nuclear holocaust becomes very real indeed.

What if this is not the big one?

Every sane-thinking human being on this planet certainly hopes that the above scenario does not develop. Those of us at Endtime Ministries are certainly at the front of that line. The slaughter of onethird of mankind is absolutely unthinkable. We are hoping our projections are wrongthat this wont happen. The truth is that this may not prove to be the 6th Trumpet war, regardless of how much it presently looks like it is. On the other hand, we should not forget that the war is comingthe only question is when. The way events are presently unfolding, it appears to be more likely that this is the prophesied war than not.

The critical question isare we prepared no matter what happens.

One week into the Iraq War, both India and Pakistan tested missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. A week before, a Muslim terrorist attack on India had rekindled animosities between the two long-time enemies. Nuclear war involving one billion Indians and 148 million Pakistanis could obviously contribute to the prophesied death count tremendously. In the meantime, Taiwan announced the possibility of a referendum to vote on a Taiwanese declaration of independence from Mainland China. China has warned that any declaration of independence by Taiwan would mean war. China has expressed repeatedly the intention of uniting Taiwan with the mainland by whatever means necessary.

The Euphrates factor

The most haunting element in this war is that almost every battle so far has been around or near the Euphrates River. Coincidence? Perhaps. But if so, it is a very disturbing coincidence.

Either way, the answer is the same

We cannot yet tell conclusively whether this is the war of Revelation 9:13-16. However, that is not the most important question. The critical question isare we prepared no matter what happens. Heifer Disqualified, Israel Requests Temple Treasures
The Temple Institute in Jerusalem has declared the red heifer born in March 2002 to be un-kosher. Gershon Salomon from the Temple Mount Faithful reports that the President of Israel Moshe Katzav asked Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano to prepare a list of all the Temple vessels and Judaica that are being held by the Vatican. Katzav made the official request on a recent visit to Italy, and it puts the Vatican into the awkward position of acknowledging whether or not they possess Israels Temple treasures. A positive admission would have to be followed by the gesture to return everything. This would then put Israel one step closer to the fulfillment of Revelation 11:1-2 and II Thessalonians 2:3-4, which prophesy of a rebuilt Jewish Temple. even those who do not know Christ and His Church, but who under the influence of grace seek God with a sincere heart would also be called to build the Kingdom of God, this according to the Vatican Information Service. The statements give strength to those who contend that the Roman Catholic Church is a major player in the worldwide Interfaith movement, the credo of which states that there are pathways to heaven outside of Jesus Christ.

The Year of Moneo

On the coattails of Endtimes Year of the Chip January/February 2003 cover story, it is interesting to now be reporting on Frances new push to make this the year of the computerized smart cards. Moneo, as it is called, was introduced two years ago in a handful of pilot regions, successfully. It is now in Paris. Nearly one million French consumers now use Moneo cards regularly at over 80,000 outlets, including many who deal in pocket-change transactions. The card is currently anonymous, so there are no privacy or identity theft concerns. Neither is there any protection of funds on the card should it be lost or stolen. Currently, Moneo users upload money from their bank accounts at special teller machines and at post offices. The cards can be refilled at any participating shop, grocery store or cinema with the use of a personal identification number. As the cards continue to gain universal acceptance, identity theft will become an issue. A simple PIN will need to be upgraded to a more secure form of ID, perhaps biometric or possibly tied into the alreadyestablished national identification system. In fact, Moneo has already been added to 25 million credit cards that were up for renewal, and with the owners not always being aware of it. Should 2003 in France be the Year of Moneo, and especially its entry into the Parisian market, it will prove to all Western societies that such a cashless system can indeed work. This would put France into the position of being the beachhead for what will become the worldwide economic system described in Revelation 13:15-18. Vatican: Thumbs Up for Harry Potter

I dont see any, any problems in the Harry Potter series, said Rev. Don Peter Fleetwood at a Vatican news conference on February 3rd. Fleetwood, secretary of the European Episcopal Conference Council, helped draft a new Vatican document on the New Age phenomenon. He is a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture. Fleetwood said that the Potter series books are imbued with Christian morals. In response to questions on whether the magic embraced by Harry Potter and his pals at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was problematic for the Roman Catholic Church, he responded, I dont think theres anyone in this room who grew up without fairies, magic and angels in their imaginary world. They arent bad. They arent serving as a banner for an anti-Christian ideology. If I have understood well the intentions of Harry Potters author, they help children to see the difference between good and evil. And she is very clear on this. He said British author J.K. National Biometrics ID System Coming

The Bush administration is establishing a national biometrics identification system with the intent to set up international standards. The USA Patriot Act, passed by the Congress, directs the implementation of the system at all borders with the initial aim of preventing terrorists from entering the country illegally. The American Civil Liberties Union is concerned that biometrics will become a de facto national identification system. If we agree on a single biometric identifier, it will appear on every piece of paper in our lives, and it will become the way we are tracked. We will have a surveillance society, and that, of course, is the goal of some, particularly the government, says ACLU technology director Barry Steinhardt. The system has potential. Two al Qaeda suspects recently tried to enter the country, but their fingerprints matched ones lifted by U.S. military personnel from documents found in caves in Afghanistan. They were taken into custody.

The Two Witnesses: Who Are They?

s pressure for an international solution to the Middle East problem mounts with each passing bullet, let us consider what the prophecies forecast for the times just ahead: A global leader will pave the way for

Israel to build her Third Temple. Daily sacrifices in the temple will begin. There will be a war in heaven. Satan will be forbidden access to heaven and will no longer be able to function as the accuser of the brethren. When this happens, the Bible says that the global leader will walk into Israels temple, stop the sacrifices and claim to be Messiah and God. This event, called in the Bible the abomination of desolation, will trigger Satans 3 1/2-

year war against the saints. This time of great tribulation is described in Revelation 13:5-7. And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to

make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. It appears that this time of tribulation will come first upon the Jewish settlers of Judea, and then will spread from there to Christians the world over (Revelation 12:13,17). But thats only half of the picture. The other half, much overlooked, is recorded in Daniel 11:32: And they that know their God shall be strong and do exploits. Who is this referring to? Lets look closer. Daniel 11:31 records the abomination of desolation. That is when Satan begins his 3 1/2-year power trip. But its also the same time that two prophets from God receive power from on high for the same 3 1/2 years. This is recorded in Revelation 11:3: And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days. The great tribulation will feature the classic battlegood vs. evil. The time for the ministry of the Two Witnesses is close. They are certainly alive on earth right now, but we dont yet know who they are. The account of the Two Witnesses comes to us sandwiched in the midst of the account of the Seven Trumpets of Revelation. Specifically, we read of them between the 6th and 7th Trumpets. Their ministry, therefore, begins after the 6th Trumpet war and continues until the sounding of the 7th Trumpet. Much debate has raged over these two special prophets of God. Who are they?

Mount Tabor, located in the Jezreel Valley near Megiddo, is regarded by Bible scholars as the site of the Mount of Transfiguration where Peter, James and John saw Jesus with Moses and Elijah.

Is one of the two Elijah?

Some have argued very persuasively that one of the Two Witnesses must be Elijah. In Malachi 4:5 we have this prophecy: Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. It is because of this prophecy that the Jewish people have long looked for Elijah to come, announcing the arrival of the Messiah. Many believe this will happen during the time of the annual Passover feast. This is why every Passover meal has an extra place setting for Elijah, just in case he would appear. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the Jewish people claimed to their

Turkish occupiers that Elijah would soon come, entering through the Eastern Gate of the Temple Mount. The prospect of this scared the Turks of the Ottoman Empire so much that they had masons seal up the Eastern Gate. It is still sealed to this day. Oddly, the Turks had no idea that they were fulfilling an incredible prophecy in Ezekiel 44:1-3. The prophecy states that the Eastern Gate would be sealed, because the Lord had entered in by it. (Jesus fulfilled this prophecy when He entered through the Eastern Gate during His triumphal entry, one week before His crucifixion.) The prophecy also states that it would not be opened again until He came back, entering through it again. The Eastern Gate stands sealed until this very moment, awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus. The Turks, in an attempt to prevent one prophecy from being fulfilled, unknowingly fulfilled another! Back to Malachis I will send you Elijah before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. Many of the Jewish people of the 1st Century puzzled over whether or not this man named Jesus was, in fact, the Messiah. He fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fish. He raised the dead, walked on water, opened blind eyes...What more would Messiah do when He came?

One day the disciples came to Jesus asking, if you are Messiah, then where is Elijah? They knew the prophecy said that Elijah must come before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. Jesus answered in Matthew 17:12-13: But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that He spake unto them of John the Baptist. So according to Jesus, the Elijah prophecy was fulfilled by the coming of John the Baptist.

Every person must die

Many have insisted that Elijah must be one of the Two Witnesses because he was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind and did not experience death. Hebrews 9:27 teaches that it is appointed unto men once to die. They contend that Elijahs required death will be accomplished when he dies as one of the Two Witnesses. There is a glaring flaw in this logic. Scripture teaches that the saved on earth at the time of the rapture will never see death. I Corinthians 15:51-54 tells us that we shall not all sleep (die), but that we shall all be changed from mortal to immortality at the last trump. Once we are immortal, we will certainly not be

able to come back later and die. If we dont have to come back to die after the rapture, then Elijah certainly doesnt have to come back and die either.

Are they Moses and Elijah?

Another reason many have thought Elijah would be one of the Two Witnesses is found in Matthew 17:1-3. It says, And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Here, on the Mount of Transfiguration, both Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus. Revelation 11:4 describes the Two Witnesses as the two olive trees and the two candlesticks, which stand before the God of the earth. Since Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration, many have concluded that they are these two olive trees. Another factor that adds credence to the possibility is found by studying Revelation 11:5-6. In these verses we find the Two Witnesses performing the same miracles that Moses and Elijah were noted for during their ministries. If any man tries to hurt them, fire will proceed out of their mouths and devour their enemies. Remember that Elijah pulled down fire from heaven and devoured his enemies at one point. The Two Witnesses will have power to cause a drought for the 3 1/2 years of their ministry. Elijah had the power to do the same. They will have power to turn waters into blood. Moses did that in EgyptPlague #1. The Two Witnesses will have the power to smite the earth with all plagues. This again reminds of the ministry of Moses. Now for the problems with this view: The Bible states that Moses died and God buried him. If Moses were to be one of the Two Witnesses, he would have to be reincarnated and then die the second time. Elijah would also have to be reincarnated since by now he would be nearly 3,000 years old. We dont have one example of reincarnation in the Bible. We also dont have any record where a person from a previous generation came back to earth to preach. These factors preclude, in my mind, the

possibility of Moses and Elijah returning to earth as the Two Witnesses.

Conclusion
The Two Witnesses of Revelation 11 will not be the Jewish and the Gentile church. They will not be Moses and Elijah reincarnated. John the Baptist was not literally Elijah; yet Jesus said that he fulfilled the Elijah prophecy because he came in the spirit and power of Elijah. Likewise, the Two Witnesses will be two ordinary people that apparently come in the spirit and power of Moses and Elijah. These two prophets are almost certainly alive on this earth right now, and are being prepared by God for the ministry for which they have been ordained. The time for the revelation of the Antichrist and False Prophet is near. These two men will be Satans two witnesses. God has an answer for Satans master plan. He will present His Two Witnesses to the world. They will preach the full truth of Gods Word for three and onehalf years. They will then die in Jerusalem. After 3 1/2 days, they will be resurrected and caught up into the sky. Yes, Satans messengers will deceive the world and corrupt the people of the world by his flatteries. But, the people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits!

Do Two Witnesses symbolize Israel and the church?

Another very prominent opinion states that the Two Witnesses represent the Jewish and the Gentile church. This is not illogical since symbols are used prominently throughout the book of Revelation. Here is the reason some people believe this theory: In Romans 11:24-25, the Apostle Paul refers to Israel as the tame olive tree and to the Gentiles as a wild olive tree. Revelation 11:4 says the Two Witnesses are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. From these two passages it has been deduced that there would be, in the endtime, a Gentile church and a Jewish church witnessing in the earth. To some, this is quite a persuasive argument. However, the prophecy concerning the Two Witnesses calls them two prophets. It also says they will be killed and lie in the street for three and one-half days. I see no logical way that a nation or a church could be killed and lay in the streets. These two prophets will be two literal men.

China Sees U.S. Going After Asia Next

s it far fetched to think that China or North Korea may take confrontational actions against the U.S. as a result of the opportunity created by the war in Iraq? It had been thought that Chinas new president, Hu Jintao, would not carry forth with the hard line and aggressive policies of his predecessor, Jiang Zemin. Not so. In fact, Hu may end up presiding over Beijings eventual takeover attempt of Taiwan, a move certain to elicit an immediate whatever it takes response from the U.S. military. Earlier this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao said that Beijing will be paying more attention to global developments, a euphemism for what China regards as ugly American imperialism and unilateralism. Hu said that China must make good preparations before the rainstorm and that it should be in a position to seize the initiative.

Beijings keep a low profile strategy no longer seems like a viable strategy. According to a recent CNN report from Hong Kong, an unnamed senior Chinese diplomatic official expressed that Beijing should be adopting a more proactive if not aggressive policy to thwart U.S. aggression. The official also stated that hard line factions in the Peoples Liberation Army are advocating that China should provide weapons to North Korea to help her defend herself from an expected American missile strike at its nuclear facilities.

Concurrent with the war in Iraq and tensions brewing in the Far East, intense hostilities between India and Pakistan have flared up again. Pakistani-trained Muslim terrorists massacred 24 Hindus in the India-controlled disputed province of Kashmir. As both nations defiantly conducted illegal missile tests during the first week of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, the conflict appears to be on the same course as it was last year when twice the two nucleararmed countries came to the hairy edge of all-out war. With U.S. forces pinned down in Iraq for the foreseeable future, North Korea, China, India and Pakistan may never find a better time to carry out their declared intentions concerning their neighbors. These powers, with their combined populations of 2.6 billion, could create a sure formula for igniting World War III.

Seize the initiative? What initiative?

In the past, the Chinese Communist Party has let it be known that some form of confrontation with the U.S. is inevitable. In light of the Iraqi war, they are now convinced that this conflict could come earlier than expected, and indeed be their window of opportunity. In March, a committee headed by Hu, the Communist Partys secretive Leading Group on National Security, has been holding meetings to discuss ways for China to handle the Iraqi crisis. In particular, Beijing has been stating that it sees the war in Iraq as Americas first attempt in earnest to build a new world order under U.S. domination. Furthermore, it is understood that after Iraq, Washington will soon turn to Asia and begin efforts to tame China. The most alarming development in this regard is Hus belief that the U.S. will take on North Korea, Chinas ally, as early as this summer.
