FMC KL-Clamp Connectors

Connectors are used to make a tight connection between two uid-carrying elements. Clamp Connectors are based on a 2 segmented clamp screwed together around two hubs. FMC Technologies provide a series of standard Single-bore and Multi-bore clamp connectors from 5" to 27".

FMC Connection products

Connectors are used to make a tight connection between two uid-carrying elements. Most of the uid is carried under high pressure, and/or high temperature. The connection may also be exposed to high external loads and/or pressure as a result of the waterdepth.

FMC Connector history

The KL- connector was rst developed in the early -80s. This Clamp-connector concept has been improved by global eld experience and innovative design over decades. FMC Kongsberg has delivered over the last twenty years more than 300 Clamp Connectors. The 27" ID Clamp Connector delivered to the Hydro Ormen Lange Field is the largest Clamp Connector delivered so far.

Clamp Connectors
Clamp Connectors are based on a 2 segmented clamp screwed together around two hubs. Clamp connectors may connect both single and multi-bore connections, and are mainly used in horizontal applications. FMC Technologies provide a series of standard connectors from Single-bore (10") and Multi-bore (6" + 2" + 14 hydraulic lines) to large 36" Export lines.

Installation
StabCon for MK-4 KL, Clamp Connector The 20" and 30" KL Clamp connector is installed using the StabCon MK-2 Tie-in system. The KL-Clamp is located (mounted) on the inboard hub on surface. After the end-termination on the ow-line is stabbed in the StabCon receptacle, the protection caps on the two owline-hubs are removed. The CAT ( Clamp Actuating Tool ) is then lowered onto the Termination Head. Stroking cylinders on the CAT performes the nal pull-in before the jack-screw on the clamp is made up to close the clamp. This system includes an ROV-Tool package for Seal Replacement, Hub Cleaning, and Clam change-out in case of damage.

KX-gasket
FMC KL connectors are using the KX metal-to-metal seal. The seal is made of Inconel 625, and is Silver Plated. This provides a gas tight seal, and is suitable for single and Multibore Connections. The KX gasket is of a exible design, allowing for compensation of fabrication tolerances and misalignments. In case of damage to the primary sealing area in the hub-face, the KX-design provides a back-up seal by utilizing a different area in the seal-face. The seal design is equipped for back seat ( external seal ) test after connection to verify proper connection operation. KX-gasket from " to 27" The KX- gasket was developed in the early 80s, and has successfully held connections sealed in all major oil-producing elds around the world.

UTIS for MK-3 KL, Clamp Connector The Mk 3 KL Clamp connector is installed using the UTIS ( Universal Tie-In System ) tool. The tool may perform both rst and second end tie-in of exible lines, steel lines, or spools in both single and multi-bore congurations. The UTIS tool may pull-in and connect lines up to 20" pipe size. UTIS may be run on guidelines for shallow water, or guidelineless in deep and ultra-deep waters. The tool is electro-hydraulically controlled from a control container located on the installation vessel. The UTIS tie-in system has performed hundreds of tie-in around the world.
