Utilizing Windchill Q&A

Creo Administration and Client Configuration

Client Inspector
Challenge
I am not sure if my client is configured optimally for working with large assemblies

Description
Client inspector tool to evaluate client systems

Benefit
Tools to help with proper client configuration Can run remotely by administrators for multi-user support

Creo Administration and Client Configuration

Design Templates
Challenge
Creo does not provide out of box templates to support Simplified Representations

Description
Develop set of company standard templates to support assemblies and parts Distribute and utilize in a common location Layers, Views and Representations

Benefit
All users can utilize during model creation All users will be able to utilize during retrieval

Design Templates - Drawing Templates
Challenge
Drawing objects reference the Master when stored within PDM Even though templates are built for Assemblies and Parts, Drawing creation and retrieval still download Master Rep

Description
PTC provided Drawing template views use Master Representation Develop template that supports your company standard view representations Remove model master

Benefit
Using drawing representation, only retrieved models supporting rep are retrieved**

** requires open_draw_simp_rep_by_default yes

Lightweight Graphics Representations
Challenge
Creos Graphics / Geometry representations still require the master to be downloaded to workspace

Description
Creo Parametric 1.0 provides the ability to use Creo View lightweight graphics

Benefit
Provides quick viewing Performance depends on presence of thumbnail and their quality Can be used within or outside of a Windchill environment
Increasing complexity / size

External Simplified Representations
Challenge
Want to collect objects in assembly around component requiring change regardless of assembly structure without downloading the top level

Description
Windchill 10 provides the ability to create External Simplified Representation using viewables

Benefit
Uses lightweight viewables in commonspace workspace with no need to download master representations locally Uses server side template to define initial content Requires only the top level object in workspace initially

Interference Management Service
Challenge
Completing interactive interference calculations in the parametric environment is time consuming
See: Best Practices for Managing Complex Product Platform Design and Validation

Description
Windchill 10 provides the ability to batch process interferences included the development of reports Record and manage clash jobs in the database Relay and resolve results of clash analysis with automated reporting and communications

Benefit

Systematically identify potential component interference issues early with desktop and Windchill-based high performance clash detection
