I really hope this guide helps a lot of you. I also hope this guide lasts a while. !his guide is sub#ect to change and be updated. !hank you. $.%. $ulse&udio team please get it right. I can't be around to fi' everything, especially after what this distro put me through. This tutorial is going to explain how to fix pulseaudio completely and the video/audio playback issues of V ! "edia Player# $ope this helps# The time scheduling function is still a bit bugged and gives off audio issues % noticed# &o unless you want ' seconds of chopping( skipping( and garbling each time you start an audio app( we)re not going to use it# *lso( if you)re fine with that( can live with the issue and like how it makes Pulse*udio less !P+ intensive( then skip the step where we disable time scheduling in this tutorial# ,-ou can disable it later if needed after you)re done. &o let)s get started#

Fixing PulseAudio: "e #ant no less than perfe$tion%

/resh off of an upgraded install % noticed many things were broken with the audio( so we)re going to uninstall Pulse*udio first# %n a terminal( type the following: !ode:
su yum remove pulseaudio

&estart your $omputer $ompletely no#% 0ow that you)re back( open a terminal and type the following: !ode:
su yum install pulseaudio alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio-esound-compat pulseaudio-libs pulseaudio-libs-glib2 pulseaudio-module-zeroconf pulseaudiolibs-zeroconf xmms-pulse pulseaudio-module-gconf wine-pulseaudio xine-libpulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pulseaudio-module-bluetooth gst-mixer padevchooser paman paprefs pavucontrol pavumeter

This will reinstall Pulse*udio and all the extras we need to work with#

1&kip this step if you can live with time2scheduling( skipping is not recommended3 0ext( run the following as root: ,or open 4/etc/pulse/default#pa4 manually as root. !ode:
gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa

and replace the line: Quote: load2module module2hal2detect with: Quote: load2module module2hal2detect tsched56 save your changes# This will disable time2scheduling# 0ext( run the following as root: ,or open 4/etc/pulse/daemon#conf4 manually as root. !ode:
gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf

then change the line: Quote: 7 realtime2scheduling 5 no to Quote: realtime2scheduling 5 yes also( change the line: Quote: 7 default2fragment2si8e2msec 5 9' to Quote: default2fragment2si8e2msec 5 :6 save your changes# &estart your $omputer $ompletely again%

0ow( open System ' Preferen$es ' Advan$ed Volume Control and make sure that P!"( "aster( and the various Pulse*udio devices under the 4;evice:4 menu aren)t muted and are raised to ade<uate volume levels#

0ext( open Appli$ations ' Sound ( Video ' PulseAudio )evi$e Chooser and make sure the ;efault &erver( ;efault &ink( and ;efault &ource are all set to ;efault#

*fter that( in the device chooser( select the 4Volume !ontrol4 option in the menu and go through each tab making sure none of the streams are muted#

0ow( go to the Configuration tab and for *nternal Audio + Profiles set it to the appropriate profile until you hear audio from an audio file# %f you)re hearing audio already then it is probably set to the proper profile already# =xperiment with the profiles using an audio file of some sort( playing it# % used "ichael >ackson)s ,?#%#P.

The wrong profile means no audio will come from your sound card at all# =xample: % didn)t hear any sound because my profile was set to digital and not analogue( because analogue is what my sound card supports# %f you are not hearing any audio at all then you need to check the last @ routines we Aust went through# ,The advanced volume controls for mutes( ;efaults of the ;evice !hooser( volume control in the device chooser for wrong settings. -ou)re doneB 0ow you can finally enAoy your audio in /edora# sidenote: % also noticed the time2scheduling feature can also cause lagging in video playback7 which is why % like it better disabled# %f you)re still having Pulse*udio issues then please open a support thread and ask for help# 0ow( % shall continue to the next part of my guide#

Fixing video play,a$- issues #ith VLC Media Player

Cefore we start to fix V ! "edia Player( % would like to ask you to )o#nload this file as #e.re going to use it/ for testing/ later% % chose this file because it is going to give you a fair amount of problems playing it with the default settings# De are going to fix the chopping( skipping and stutter of the audio with V ! "edia Player that some of you been experiencing# /irst( open V ! and go to 0ools ' Preferen$es% ,!T? EP for those who cant find it. The options should already be set to simple7 hit the Audio tab and change 1utput: 0ype to Pulseaudio audio output7 *s shown in the picture below#

0ow( change the Sho# settings option to All and go to *nput / Code$s ' A$$ess Modules ' File7 !hange the $a$hing value to 1233 ,there are :666 milliseconds in a second.

(ou can ad#ust this a little higher or lower later. &s long as it's )*** or above, it should be fine. (I ultimately ended up lowering mine to around )+**, personally) 0ow( that video % had you downloadF 0ow it)s time to test V !# Open the video file in V ! and press play( watching it from beginning to end# -ou are watching it for things like glitches in the audio and the audio cutting off half way through the video# %f everything is fine with the audio and video( you)re doneB %f not( continue to the next part of this tutorial# ,%f it)s an audio issue still then you may want to check your settings or open a support thread. -ou can try playing the video and skipping around back2and2forth to see if the audio crashes out( but it shouldn)t with the settings in this tutorial#

%f there is screen tearing in the video ,slices in the video images. you may want to try changing the video output settings# ,assuming your !P+/GP+ is fast enough to handle the video. %n 0ools ' Preferen$es ,&imple. go to the Video tab and change )isplay: 1utput to various options and play the video until the tearing stops# ,experiment. % have mine set to OpenG because % have OpenG drivers installed for my video card#

,%f it)s an issue still after your experimentation( then you may want to open a support thread. There are more things you can do in2depth( which can degrade video <uality( but those are better left for a support thread# $ope this guide has solved your audio and video issues#
