Simplified Software Packaging: Advanced Base Functionality with Additional Options

Software packaging for Hitachi Unied Storage 100 family systems has been simplied. In addition, important capabilities, such as advanced Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning and in-system block replication and le protection, have been added to the base packages (see Figure 1). The foundation Hitachi Base Operating System software packages for Hitachi Unied Storage 100 family are BOS M, the BOS F bundles, and BOS Security Extension. BOS M is the block management component. The BOS F bundles are the le management component. And the BOS Security Extension contains added-value security and compliance capabilities. There is also an entry-level version of BOS M named BOS E. And there is an upgrade package to take you from BOS E to BOS M, if you later desire. See Figure 2.

Hitachi Base Operating System package and Hitachi Command Suite complement virtual server environments, such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V. The virtual server manages data access across the virtual machines, but manages storage only down to the le and volume level. Hitachi storage systems more precisely manage the storage at a more detailed level for optimal performance and efciency. And the software not only provides enhanced storage management for HUS but also gives Vsphere administrators the ability to manage their own storage, without risk to others.
