Your current computer has matured to the ripe old age of 8 months and has been deemed obsolete. Now its time for you and your partner to buy a new one and with all this new technology on the market, its difficult to make a decision. After giving it much thought, you feel that a desktop would be the right choice for the following reasons:

A laptop is vulnerable to theft. Ergonomics: more comfortable (back problems, the mouse pad). Youd like to buy it in the local computer store in case you have problems. Better price-to-performance ratio. Reliability: spare parts are easy to find. You want it for work and entertainment, so performance is essential.

You live with your grown-up child and his/her five-year-old daughter. You have really been enjoying being a grandparent these past five years. You feel it's more fun than being a parent, because you have all of the pleasures of parenthood without the heavy responsibilities. In recent years, your philosophy of child-raising has changed. You now believe:

Children express themselves in so many different ways. Children should enjoy food and eat what they like. Forcing a child to eat can lead to weight problems. TV helps develop a child's imagination. Toys and other playthings are essential to a child's development. Children have lots of energy, and shouldn't be put to bed too soon.

Accommodation at your friends in Edinburgh and then in B&Bs. Things to do in Scotland (beautiful landscape, lakes and castles, trekking and climbing, whisky distilleries, ancient sites). Opportunity to know the local culture (bagpipes, dancing and kilts). You love the Scottish accent. Youll spend some time in Edinburgh too (shopping, nightlife). TO SMOKE OR NOT TO SMOKE, THATS THE QUESTION

You are the town councillor behind the proposal to ban smoking in all the pubs and restaurants in your town. Although you are a well aware of the mixed emotions your initiative will give rise to, you still believe it is worth trying for 3 months. You represent the town council at the public meeting to discuss the councils proposal. These are your views:

It consists of a 3-month-trial experiment only. Already a reality in countries in the European Union. Adults are the role models for children. Healthy citizens make a healthy town. It forces workers to be passive smokers. People will save money.
