t would be best if all our families would work hard to be holy. The hard work starts with both the father and the mother, down to the children and to some instances, to extended families like the grandparents and grandchildren. And thanks God, we have the Holy Family as our model to a life of holiness! What comes first in our mind when we try to emulate the Holy Family is that it is a praying Community. Like Jesus, Mary and Joseph, let us strive to communicate with God constantly. We pray when we wake up each morning and before we sleep at night, before and after meals, before we sleep. We teach our children to go to Mass on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligations without exemption. A family should have a Holy Bible which should be often opened, read and meditated by all members. A neglected aspect in the lives of many Catholic Christians is the importance of reading and living the message of the Bible. Many of our brothers and sisters in the Catholic faith still do not have a copy of the Holy Book. And for those who have the book, most of the time do not open and meditate on it. For a family to aspire for holiness, the Holy Bible should be the centerpiece and cornerstone of their faith. In our prayers, we include our families, relatives, friends, our priests, the old, the sick, victims of calamities, peace for our needs and for those who make our lives miserable. The family should end their prayers with words of thanks and praise. Every day I will thank you; I will praise you forever and ever. (Psalm 145, 2) Faith teaches us first and foremost to believe and to love God who guides, teaches and directs us and showers us with His graces in order for all of us to reach our final destination in heaven. Faith is an important virtue to be nurtured and shared by parents to their children especially while they are growing up. If the children learn and live faith, we could say that the struggle to attain holiness in the family is almost sure. As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may we emulate the example set before us so that centered on Jesus, in His Word and in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood, we can sanctify and transform our world, making it a holy ground!
ongratulations my dear sons and daughters! These are the words I would like to say to the members of the Jaro Parish Youth Ministry because of their commendable performance during the Christmas Presentation last December 24 evening. They did a great job eventhough I seldom supervise them. For aside from being a Youth Director, I was also entrusted with other responsibilities here in the parish. It is a great challenge for me on how to manage myself and my time so that I can fulfill my various duties and responsibilities. Unlike before when I was resident priest here, I was able to give my quality
time to the young people. It was not so much on presiding meetings and planning various activities for the good of the young people in the parish but even for wasting time with them, getting to know them personally and assuring them that they didnt just have a priest to guide and teach them but they have a brother who can be one with them in their journey through life. But I know and I believe that the young people understand me. I am happy that they do not depend so much on me now except when there are big decisions to make. I can sense that they are empowered by their love for Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit. They do their duties and obligations not so much to please me but because of their concern for the welfare of others and for the greater glory of God.
I would like to commend the leadership of the Youth Council - the officers, the barangay youth coordinators and ministry coordinators. I know that if it were not for your cooperation, creativity and faith, the activities we have facilitated especially during this month like the Viva Parol and the Christmas Presentation would not have been successful and meaningful. I would also like to ask for apology for my shortcomings especially during those times that I was not able to meet your expectations, for not being present during your practices and for being difficult to deal with especially when you were asking for money for your snacks and meals. I know that some of you may been disappointed or frustrated. Please do forgive me. I will do better next time (just remind me!). My gratitude also goes to Sir Joseph William Albaa who patiently and faithfully accompanied our young people with or without theatrical presentations here in the Parish. His deep trust in the goodness of the youth inspires me to see the limitless potentials of these young people. Thanks a lot, Sir Joseph! May God give you good health so that you can continue to serve God and His people. Again, my dear sons and daughters in JPYM Congratulations! Merry Christmas and Advance Happy New Year!
1. Put the Marriage First It is the parents job to set an example of real love. Many families think that thekids should come first but that is unfair because parents are the ones who need to teach love. 2. Make Dinner a Priority. Family dinners are essential and its a way families can connect. The work day and school day can be very hectic and a lot of things can happen; which consumes us mentally and emotionally. 3. Build and Honor Rituals. Families need rituals because theyre positive reinforcements and give members something to look forward to. It also helps build strong bonds. This can be family movie night with pizza on Fridays or most especially going to church every Sunday. 4. Enjoy Each Other. The essence of a family is that they uplift each other and it comes down to how they treat each other. Swap stories with each other and be part of their lives. Each family member should feel like they are important.
and allows each member of the family to stand strong. 7. Chores. Chores arent fun but theyre important. Chores create a sense of contribution to the family and create a sense of accomplishment and unity. source: beliefnet.com
bayaran naton. (Dont worry, we will pay.) Isnt it a great irony that sometimes family members are not that open and transparent to one another? Some are more comfortable and candid to share their thoughts and feelings to their friends rather than to their own parents or siblings. Good for those who have their own parents, spouse or siblings as their best friends but there are those who, because of some factors like traumatic experiences are not that open in their communication with one another. They select what to share with their loved ones as if hiding something for fear of not being loved unconditionally. As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, we are reminded to value communication in our own families communication with God in prayer and communication with one another especially

CBCP launches website for laity; Villegas challenges them to be saints, heroes
to the laity is that they are called to be saints and sent forth as heroes. He said one can become a saint and a hero by being brave, and this is possible for everyone to do everyday and everywhere. Cowards cannot be saints, Villegas said, adding Do not be afraid is the favourite command of God. He said cold people are dull and dry but heroes inspire and ignite and everybody loves brave people because brave people are admirable. Here is the website to inspire you to be brave and to share your stories of bravery. Here you can light little candles of bravery and set the world afire! Make this world a better place, Villegas said. The site contains the Churchs programs of pastoral action for the entire year of 2014 focusing on formation and animation of the Catholic faithful. CANDLE LIGHT (Dec. 29, 2013 - Jan. 4, 2014)
ecember 25, 2013. Thousands of people flocked to St. Peters Square to see Pope Francis first Urbi et Orbi Christmas blessing. As expected, the Pope put his personal style in the message. God is peace: let us ask him to help us to be peacemakers each day, in our life, in our families, in our cities and nations, in the whole world. Let us allow ourselves to be moved by Gods goodness. Its a time of joy, but the Pope also understands that many people face stark challenges during this time of year. In particular, Christians who live in the Holy Land, where Jesus was born. Looking at the Child in the manger, our thoughts turn to those children who are the most vulnerable victims of wars, but we think too of the elderly, to battered women, to the sick Wars shatter and hurt so many lives! Bless the land where you chose
Eloquent Messages

The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus; thus begins the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, by which Pope Francis develops the theme of the proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world, drawn from, among other sources, the contribution of the work of the Synod held in the Vatican from 7 to 28 October 2012 on the theme The new evangelization for the transmission of the faith. The text, which the Holy Father consigned to a group of thirtysix faithful following the closing Mass of the Year of Faith last Sunday is the first official document of his pontificate, since the Encyclical Lumen fidei was written in collaboration with his predecessor, Benedict XVI. I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Churchs journey in years to come, he continues. It is a heartfelt appeal to all baptized persons to bring Christs love to others, permanently in a state of mission, conquering the great danger in todays world, that of an individualist desolation and anguish. The Pope invites the reader to recover the original freshness of the Gospel, finding new avenues and new paths of creativity, without enclosing Jesus in our dull categories. There is a need for a pastoral and missionary conversion, which cannot leave things as they presently are and a renewal of ecclesiastical structures to enable them to become more missionoriented. The Pontiff also considers a conversion of the papacy, to help make this ministry more faithful to the meaning which Jesus Christ wished to give it and to the present needs of evangelization. The hope that the Episcopal Conferences might contribute to the concrete realization of the collegial spirit, he states, has not been fully realized. A sound decentralization is necessary. In this renewal, the Church should not be afraid to re-examine certain customs not directly connected to the heart of the Gospel, even some of which have deep historical roots. A sign of Gods openness is that our church doors should always be open so
s you have observed, we have been publishing in the previous issues of Candle Light the text of Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). I am happy to share with you the synthesis of this document which I got from news.va. If ever you want to read the full text of the Apostolic Exhortation, you may download it in PDF format, click on or copy the following link: http://www.
that those who seek God will not find a closed door; nor should the doors of the sacraments be closed for simply any reason. The Eucharist is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak. These convictions have pastoral consequences that we are called to consider with prudence and boldness. He repeats that he prefers a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church concerned with being at the centre and then ends by being caught up in a web of obsessions and procedures. If something should rightly disturb us it is the fact that many of our brothers and sisters are living without the friendship of Jesus Christ.
A sign of Gods openness is that our church doors should always be open so that those who seek God will not nd a closed door; nor should the doors of the sacraments be closed for simply any reason.
The Pope indicates the temptations which affect pastoral workers: individualism, a crisis of identity and a cooling of fervour. The greatest threat of all is the grey pragmatism of the daily life of the Church, in which all appears to proceed normally, which in reality faith is wearing down. He warns against defeatism, urging Christians to be signs of hope, bringing about a revolution of tenderness. It is necessary to seek refuge from the spirituality of well-being detached from responsibility for our brothers and sisters and to vanquish the spiritual worldliness that consists of seeking not the Lords glory but human glory and well-being. The Pope speaks of the many who feel superior to others because they remain intransigently faithful to a particular Catholic style from the past whereby instead of evangelizing, one analyses and classifies others and those who have an ostentatious preoccupation for the liturgy, for doctrine and for the Churchs prestige, but without any concern
that the Gospel have a real impact on the needs of the people. This is a tremendous corruption disguised as a good God save us from a worldly Church with superficial spiritual and pastoral trappings!. He appeals to ecclesial communities not to fall prey to envy and jealousy: How many wars take place within the people of God and in our different communities!. Whom are we going to evangelize if this is the way we act?. He highlights the need to promote the growth of the responsibility of the laity, often kept away from decision-making by an excessive clericalism. He adds that there is a need for still broader opportunities for a more incisive female presence in the Church, in particular in the various settings where important decisions are made. Demands that the legitimate rights of women be respected cannot be lightly evaded. The young should exercise greater leadership. With regard to the scarcity of vocations in many places, he emphasizes that seminaries cannot accept candidates on the basis of any motivation whatsoever. With regard to the theme of inculturation, he remarks that Christianity does not have simply one cultural expression and that the face of the Church is varied. We cannot demand that peoples of every continent, in expressing their Christian faith, imitate modes of expression which European nations developed at a particular moment of their history. The Pope reiterates that underlying popular piety is an active evangelizing power and encourages the research of theologians, reminding them however that the Church and theology exist to evangelize and urging them not to be content with a desk-bound theology. He focuses somewhat meticulously, on the homily, since many concerns have been expressed about this important ministry and we cannot simply ignore them. The homily should be brief and avoid taking on the semblance of a speech or a lecture, should be a heart-to-heart communication and avoid purely moralistic or doctrinaire preaching. He highlights the importance of preparation: a preacher who does not prepare is not spiritual; he is dishonest and irresponsible. Preaching should always be positive in order always to offer hope and does not leave us trapped in negativity. The approach to the proclamation of the Gospel should have positive characteristics: approachability, readiness for dialogue, patience, a warmth and welcome which is non-judgemental.
(last part is on January 1, 2014 special issue...)
t was a cold December night. Everyone was trying to keep warm inside the home. The sky was dark. There was silence as everybody tried to make themselves comfortable. Suddenly, a brilliant light covered the earth. A big comet had suddenly appeared in the heavens and its sparkling rays rested upon an old abandoned cave in Bethlehem. What happened there? Some shepherds who were watching their flock by night decided to go to the cave to see what it was. They were surprised but happy to see a couple keeping watch over a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes on a bed of hay in a manager. All three had halos, shinning with a brilliance that lighted up the cave. Something beautiful had happened. As they approached the manger with clasped hands, they were filled with reverence and joy. They knelt before the manager as they looked at the child who was smiling at them. Their hearts melted. They could not fully explain their feeling of holiness. Their hearts were light. Everything seemed to be wonderfully peaceful. They asked themselves: Who is this infant who seems to bring peace and love? Just then, they heard angels singing in the sky. The world seemed to be alive with something wonderful; and is out deep into the hearts of men. God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to live among us and make us His real children. Brothers and sisters of Jesus; what other proof is needed to show Gods love and concern for us even if we sometimes contradict
His commandments? God made us understand His love and generosity for us by giving us His only Son. God made us understand the message of humility by letting Jesus take His human form in a dirty stable with some shepherds as His first visitors. God gave us His message of omnipotence by lighting up the sky with only one comet its tails reaching out to the ends of the earth. God gave the message to the brotherhood of men when He made the shepherds and later on the Three Wise Men from the East, or the Magi, (the Three Kings), go to Jesus to homage to Him. We must never forget the valuable message of equality. God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses to be observed and followed by all men, regardless of his stature in life. There is one message which we must always keep and remember! Love. Neighbors or strangers must be extended help when needed. Love must be practiced in homes schools offices in communities and especially in churches. Last Sunday, I happened to sit near a small boy named Einmar, who was reverent and attentive. I was touched by his behavior. While other kids were restless, he was very silent. After the Mass, I asked for his name, and he gave it Einmar. The message of the Mass is for the faithful to follow. If all of us could absorb the homily in every Mass, we are sure to fill more stable and trusting. God never leaves us alone. He sends us trials to make us more religious. He is always there if we want to talk to Him. Let us all develop the courage to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom and maintain an incorrigible faith that can weather all the storms of life. Merry Christmas!! Keep us in your hearts as we keep yours in ours! Jesus Jesus, thank you keep us safe from the pitfalls of life.

Nagakulukanta kami sang mga Christmas Carols subong sang Silent Night, Joy to the World, kag iban pa.
- Ms. Madoline Sagge Tel.# 3029027
