Notes About the Database Sheets

The "dv1." prefix stands for "data values from the Data 1 workbook." Using this prefix allows you to move the data into
your report workbook, along with "dv2." data, "dv3." data, and so on. Here, dv1 contains Actual data, as opposed to
Target data.
dv1.Codes column
You can use any code: a short word ("Sales"), text and a number ("C001"), or only a number
(1234). However, because a number entered as text won't match the same number entered
as a number, it's safer to use text instead of numbers. When using text this way, the case
doesn't matter ("C001" = "c001").
dv1.Description column

Enter any short description you want to label each row of your data.

dv1.Multiplier column

Enter a number that brings your data to the ones unit.

Examples
...If your data is in thousands, enter 1000. (23 thousand times 1000 equals 23,000)
...If your data is in percent, without the decimal, enter .01. (15 percent times .01 equals .15)

dv1.Dates row

Notice that monthly dates all use day 1 as the day of the month. Be sure to follow this
convention when you add monthly or yearly dates to your database.

dv1.Data area

This range surrounds your data. It has the same number of columns as the dv1.Dates
range and the same number of rows as the column ranges above.

Gray rows and columns

The gray rows and columns define the boundaries of range names. To insert rows or
columns for more data, make sure you do so between the gray borders.

Top and left headings

The sheets use Freeze Panes to allow you to see the row and column titles as you scroll to
the right or downward.

BB
