Level I: Online round. Initially all teams will be given equal amount of money (Rs. 10, 00,000) to invest.

Available investment options: Forest Land (Price Rs. 1,00,000) Coal Based Power Plants (Price Rs. 3,00,000) Plastics Factory (Price Rs. 2,00,000) S Solar Power Plant (Price Rs. 1,50,000) Each team can invest in different units of different type of investment options (needless to say as long as money suffices). e.g. say, Team 1 invests in 3 Forest lands , 1 coal based power plant and 2 plastic factories Team 2 invests in 3 Coal Based Power plants and 1Forest land etc. Each type of investment has its own carbon characteristics. It may be a producer or a consumer of carbon credit or it may be both i.e. producer as well as consumer of carbon credit. Carbon credit characteristic of each type (for per unit) of investment is as follows: Carbon Credit requirement in a year (in lakhs) Forest Land/Unit Coal Based Power Plants /Unit Plastics Factory/unit Solar Power Plants /Unit
0 1 0.6 0

Carbon Credits generated in a year (in lakhs)

0.5 0 0.1 0.3

So if a team invest in 2 Coal Based Power Plants (CBPP) will need to buy 1 *2 =2 lakhs units of carbon credit from the market. Otherwise its business will be closed by the authorities. Now in this game it is assumed that only these players exist in the world market for carbon credit. So the price of the carbon credit will be influenced by these players only i.e. if the demand of carbon credit rises and there is not enough supply then the price of per unit carbon credit will increase. The change of price will be according to an aggregate demand curve pertaining to the carbon trading industry. e.g. for a certain point in time depending on the carbon credit price (depends on the aggregate demand curve) the revenue generated by different investment options is like this:
Revenue (in Rs. lakhs) 0.030 0.484 0.390 0.108

Forest Land/unit Coal Based Power Plants /Unit Plastics Factory/Unit Solar Power Plants / Unit

These are just indicative numbers as it includes both fixed revenue as well as variable component due to changing price of carbon credits as per demand. This level is an online submission round. Each team has to make a portfolio based on its strategy and submit it online a before the actual game. This is not an elimination level; however, the portfolio made during this time is extremely important as you enter with the same portfolio in the second level.

Level II: Actual game to be played at (venue : to be updated) This level will be played on Saturday (13.07.13). In every round a number of teams will compete with each other and goal will be to maximize revenue. Round I: Goal of each team is to maximize revenue by maximizing the revenue generated by its investment portfolio. Teams have to find out an optimum portfolio in each round to maximize revenue. While creating portfolio a team should keep track of their capital Limit. If a team crosses its capital limit while investing it will be disqualified from the game (as no debt is allowed, so it will be assumed that the team has gone bankrupt) Each team will start from the initial portfolio submitted by them in the online round (Level I). The per unit price of carbon credit will depend on aggregate supply & demand curve at that point of time.

Round II: Each team will be given the chance to change their portfolio up to +/- 50% in any round (or next highest/lowest integer) E.g. suppose Team 1had invested in 3 Forest lands, 1 coal based power plant and 2 plastic factories. The team can change its portfolio to 4 Forest lands, 1coal based power plant and 1 plastic factory. But it cant make it 5 plastic factories only from the initial choice as it will violate the 50% rule for Forest lands. Teams are supposed to reinvest their revenue into buying new investments. So the team with more revenue will get chance to generate even more in the next round. After all teams have decided their new portfolio, revenue of each team will be calculated again based on the new carbon credit price. All teams will be given chance to play the first two rounds. Gradually non performing teams would be eliminated. There will be a number of similar rounds and at the end two teams will move to the next level.

Level III: Determining the winner of the game Winners of Level II (there will be multiple Level II rounds depending on the participation) will play with each other. The rules will be same as that of Level II. Winner of this Level will be the winner of the game.
