Parsix GNU/Linux needs at least t"o partitions to be installed. . 3"ap partition about t"ice as 2our -.'!s and a main or root. 3i)e o, this partition should be at least %G+. It "ill be ,ormatted using the ,ormat 2ou choose in the installation "i)ard. e recommend to create three partitionsB ;s"ap;0 ;/ 5root7; and ;/home;. (a6ing a separate /home partition is al"a2s a good idea to keep 2our data in an isolated en6ironment than the main operating s2stem ,iles. Cust in case 2ou need to ,ormat the main partition0 2ou "ill not need to e6en touch 2our /home.

I, 2ou create or resi)e an2 partitions0 it!s highl2 recommended to reboot the computer to appl2 changes and then restart the installation. I, the ;Partition =ditor; tool ,ails to detect 2our partitions or crashes during appl2ing needed changes0 2ou can manuall2 partition the hard disk using ;su 4c c,disk; command. 9,disk is a po"er,ul partitioning tool but can not resi)e 2our existing partitions. $o resi)e partitions using the command line0 use the ;parted; command. /or more in,ormation t2pe the ;man parted; command. In the ,irst step0 it asks to choose an installation partition. 9hoose a partition that 2ou "ant to install Parsix GNU/Linux in. $hen click ;Next; to proceed.

$hen installation program asks 2ou to enter 2our ,ull name0 username and pass"ord respecti6el2.

In the next step0 2ou should enter 2our root 5.dministration7 pass"ord. You "ill need it to do administrati6e tasks later0 so choose a pass"ord that 2ou ne6er ,orgetE

In the next step 2ou should enter a hostname 59omputer name7. 1e,ault hostname is ;parsix;. You can change it. (ostname is needed ,or net"orking.

In the next step0 the installation program asks about boot loader installation. Parsix GNU/Linux uses G-U+ boot loader. It!s recommended to choose ;mbr;. $his "ill install boot loader on the master boot record.

$he installation program starts ,ormatting the chosen partition or partitions0 copies ,iles F con,igurations0 creates users0 installs boot loader and kernel. $hen displa2s the ,inal message that ;Installation has ,inished success,ull2;. No" 2ou can boot the computer using Parsix GNU/Linux. G. Auit In ;3tart Installation; step0 2ou can use ;Auit; button to exit the installation. $he installation program "ill ask 2ou to sa6e the con,iguration in a ,ile. I, 2ou like0 2ou can sa6e 2our con,iguration to use it later.

Updating An Existing Installation

Update Installation 'ode I, 2ou ha6e an existing installation o, Parsix GNU/Linux on the computer0 it is possible to update it to the ne" 6ersion using update installation mode. It is recommended to backup 2our data be,ore proceed. Update procedure deletes a lot o, data ,rom 2our root partition. $his action can not be undone.

3tarting Update Process

$o start update procedure0 click on ;.pplications < Parsix < Install Parsix; icon or t2pe ;sudo parsix4installer; command. $hen skip the "elcome "indo" and choose ;Update installation; then click next.

$hen s2stem asks 2ou to choose a partition that contains 2our existing Parsix GNU/Linux installation.

$hen displa2s a con,irmation message about the update process. .gain it is highl2 recommended to backup 2our data be,ore starting the update installation process.

1uring the ,inal steps o, update installation mode0 the installer asks 2ou to replace the H.>rg and GN>'= desktop con,igurations. .ns"er 2es i, 2ou desire to reset these con,igurations.
