Task A:

SWITCH

witches are to great extent further intelligent devices that analyze each packet coming in. The switch determines where the traffic needs to go and transmits it only on the port Connected to the destination computer. This is a much more efficient use of the networks bandwidth, and it also prevents unauthorized users from intercepting traffic on the network. Until recently, switches were much more expensive than hubs, but recent Advances in switch technology have made hubs all but old-fashioned. Routers enable Computers to communicate and they can pass information between two networkssuch As between your home network and the Internet. This capability to direct network traffic Is what gives the router its name? Routers can be wired (using Ethernet cables) or Wireless. If you just want to connect your computers, hubs and switches work fine; However, if you want to give all of your computers access to the Internet using one Modem, use a router or a modem with a built-in router. Routers also classically provide Built-in safety, such as a firewall. Routers are more expensive than hubs and switches. Basically, you want to take a cable from the full router (one of the regular ports) and plug It into the WAN/Internet port on the secondary router or switch. Then you can plug in More devices into the secondary router. The secondary device does not have to be a Wireless router; it can be a switch or a normal wired-only router. Specifically, Dont use A Second router you will have It costs absolutely nothing to simply enter the routers Configuration setup, turn off DHCP, etc and turn into a switch. It also takes no time at all to do so.

b) Differentiate among Hub, Switch and Router in the form of table? Answer:a) Hub: A hub is typically the least expensive, least intelligent, and least complicated of the three. Its job is very simple: anything that comes in one port is sent out to the others. witch: A switch does essentially what a hub does but more efficiently. By paying attention b) to the traffic that comes across it, it can "learn" where particular addresses are. Varying degrees of magic happen inside the device, and therein lies the difference." c) Router: A router is the smartest and most complicated of the bunch. Routers come in all shapes and sizes from the small four-port broadband routers that are very popular right now to the large industrial strength devices that drive the internet itself.

The availability of inexpensive, modular Ethernet repeater chips with full IEEE 802.3 management has allowed several new players to enter the modular hub For instance, Chipcom is positioning the ONcore Switching System as a higher end model than its Online System

The term "switch" can also be used to refer to a small lever or button on computer Hardware.

dozens of physical LANs per hub At the same time, UB's Dragon Switch Ethernet switching boards communicate across a 320M bit/sec shared parallel Bus in the Access/One. The MAX1684 runs at 300kHz for applications that require highest efficiency Within the global Internet (upper case "I"), routers do all the packet switching between the backbones and are typically connected via T3, ATM or SONET links. Some backplanes, for instance, require that 200M bit/sec be set aside to support FDDI's dual 100M bit/sec ring architecture, while 30M bit/sec is available to support three Ethernets and 48M bit/sec ready to support a combination of up to 12 4M bit/sec or three 16M bit/sec Token rings. The MAX1685 runs at 600kHz to allow the use of smaller external Components. The largest routers (for example the cisco crs-1 ) Their wide-input voltage range of 2.7V to 14V gives design flexibility NAT32 is software from Microsoft that enables a PC to function as a router to the Internet for machines on the Network.

In these backplanes, packets received by port boards may all be converted to a universal packet type based on FDDI, ATM or some Other technology. For example, UngermannBass, Inc. uses a shared serial bus to interconnect Ethernet repeaters in its Access/One hub. At the same time, UB's Dragon Switch Ethernet switching boards communicate across a 320M bit/sec shared parallel Bus in the Access/One.

Other features include a 100% duty cycle for low-dropout applications, an auxiliary 3V/5mA output, and a 1% accurate Reference.

If you already have a broadband router, for example, it might have given you the 192.168.0.2 address, and kept 192.168.0.1

As with the front to rear cooled switches, the first step is to fill in the front unused "U" space with Blank panels. To present the cooling air to the side of the switch, two "L" shaped plenums are created (see Diagram).
