Overview
To be successful, operators must respond to market pressures and keep ahead of the competition. This is possible by offering new services, protecting the current protable revenue streams, avoiding subscriber churn with user-friendly services, and reducing operational costs. Experience also shows that service offerings are more quickly adopted when they are promoted within well dened packages. Today, the Alcatel 1000 MM E10 Next Generation Switch comes complete with an extensive range of services covering a wide array of operators and end users needs. In particular recent enhancements to the software releases allow the creation of compelling service packages that will bring more benets to the end user and sustained revenues for operators.

The Subscriber Access Unit (CSN) of the Alcatel 1000 MM E10 has been designed for a multiservice and multimedia environment. It is based on a two-tier, concentrating, multisite, multifunction access node architecture that has been widely adopted by the telecommunications industry. The CSN efciently extends the reach of a switch to rural or high-density networks and everywhere in between. Each CSN can
connect up to 5,120 users, and can be located anywhere in the network, either collocated with the core switch or installed in proximity to remote groups of users. The concentrator units (CNE) associated with a CSN offer considerable exibility since they too can be collocated with the CSN or installed to serve remote users in groups of 64, 256 or 512.
CAPEX optimization minimum investment for low density ADSL areas OPEX reduction savings in spare parts, integrated Operation and Maintenance Rollout exibility rollout on demand, fast deployment Cost-effectiveness plug-to-plug compatible ADSL/POTS/ISDN boards Easy installation minimum impact on main distribution frames State-of-the-art broadband functionality full compatibility with the Alcatel ADSL portfolio

Subscriber Line Card Specifications and Descriptions
The ADSL line card supports 4-line equipment and a common control logic. Each port includes its own splitter and handles both analogue POTS and broadband data trafc. Depending on the length and the quality of the line, the broadband data bit-rates supported are up to 640 kb/s from ADSL network termination (ANT) to CSN, and up to 8 Mb/s from CSN to ANT. The ADSL line card separates voice trafc from broadband data trafc before transmission of each ow on the appropriate bus in the CSN or CNE back panels. All the ADSL subscribers are connected to an
Basic feature subscriber line card Full featured subscriber line card Data link line card
Basic rate access ISDN subscriber line card (echo cancellation, 2B1Q encoding) contains 8-line equipment, controlled by a common logic.
Primary rate access ISDN subscriber line card (30B+D) used to connect the CSN to multiservice ISDN exchanges.
internal 155 Mb/s bus running in the back panel and terminating in an extender board. A 155 Mb/s daisy chain enables multiplexing of ADSL lines. A transport interface board terminates the daisy chain and accesses the external transport network. Two types of transport are implemented:
M M
V5.1 access card used to connect an access network with a V5.1 interface. Each V5.1 nonconcentrating interface is made of one 2 Mb/s PCM.
64 kb/s data link card used to connect up to 4 leased lines and supports 64 kb/s codirectional data links (ITU-T Recommendation G.703).
An STM-1 optical link (155 Mb/s) 1 to n IMA PCM links (ATM on 2 Mb/s)
Packet unit card allows ISDN subscribers to use their access D channel for receiving or sending low rate data using a frame structure.
This allows the broadband data ow to be aggregated on the same link towards the ATM backbone.
Any one of these types of cards can be plugged into any line card location in the digital concentrator.
