The Argan (Argania Spinosa.) is a species of a tree endemic to the calcareous semi-desert of south-western Morocco in North Africa.

it is the sole species in the genus Argania. The Argan tree can reach a height of 32 feet, and can live up to 200 years. It is thorny, with gnarled trunks. The leaves are small .78 to 1.57 inch long, oval with a rounded apex. The flowers are small, with five petals. The fruit is the size of an olive, each one is surrounded by a peel, and contains one (occasionally two or three) small seeds. The arganeraie forests now cover about 828,000 ha and are designated as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. Their area has shrunk by about 50% over the last 100 years due to charcoal-making, grazing, and increasingly intensive cultivation. For centuries, women in Southern Morocco; gathered together in cooperatives, have been passing down the traditional methods of extracting Argan Oil: How to gather and dry the fruit, crush the nuts, roast and grind the kernels, and finally knead the paste to extract the oil. It takes about 100 Kg of ripe fruit and over 10 hours of manual work to produce only 1 liter of this Unique oil: The most expensive in the world!!

HOW TO USE ARGAN OIL 1 PART

Tips for using organic argan oil on the face, body, hair and nails
Face: If you are using cosmetic grade raw argan oil, you only need to use a few drops for your entire face. A little really does go a long way. You can apply it at night as an intensive moisturizing treatment and/or in the morning as a base for your makeup. The oil penetrates easily, does not leave an oily residue and can even be used around the eye area. First, cleanse your face using a cleansing agent that is appropriate for your skin type. Next, use a toner or splash your face with cold water. Finally, take a few drops of argan oil in the tips of your fingers, rub fingers together gently to warm the oil, then apply to face, including eye area. If time permits, spend a few moments lightly massaging your skin and gently tapping around the eye area to help the argan oil penetrate and give your skin a boost of energy. Body: Simply apply as you would any other lotion or oil after a bath or shower. Allow a few minutes for the argan oil to penetrate before you get dressed or get into bed. Nails: If your nails and cuticles are looking a little worse for wear, simply soak them in a mixture of argan oil and lemon juice for 10 minutes (or even overnight). This will not only soften your cuticles and limit nail breakage but will also give a healthy shine to your nails. Hair: For an intensive hair treatment to improve dry scalp and add shine, apply a generous amount of oil to dry hair, then wrap in a warm towel and leave for 30 minutes. Wash and style as usual. Raw organic argan oil is best for this. TIP 1: Start by using raw argan oil at night only to see how your skin likes it. You can then progress to twice a day if your skin needs extra hydration or you can simply apply it to dry or wrinkle-prone areas. TIP 2: Raw argan oil has a distinctive natural odor which may deter more sensitive-nosed people from using it. If that is the case, opt for the aromatherapy version (see above for recommendations).
