POTENTIAL

Economic, ecological and ethically convincing

RESPONSIBILITY Increasing energy costs are presenting industry, commerce,

trade and above all local authorities with huge challenges. The energy costs for space heating and air-conditioning or process heat represent by far the highest cost factor. The decision-makers are also being required to save primary energy and to reduce pollutants and CO2 emissions. Renewable energy from ambient warmth or exhaust heat utilisation will in the long run guarantee the supply of energy economically, efciently and without risk. The new generation of heat pumps are the ideal solution for heating and cooling buildings in the most efcient and inexpensive fashion. Using OCHSNER heat pumps, the Guidelines for Primary Energy Efciency (Energy Building Certicate) are achieved in an inexpensive fashion, without having to compromise as far as the building fabric is concerned. This has often to be maintained, even during energy-system renovation (building conservation orders etc.). Compared to heat insulation, the energy-system renovation by means of a heat pump usually costs signicantly less, although the same savings of primary energy and operational costs as well as CO2 reduction can be achieved.

ECONOMY
Due to the absolute minimising of the operational costs for heating and cooling, we provide economic building technology and increase the value of the building signicantly. Whilst heat pumps for single-family houses represent the most used heating technology in many places, the broad use in largescale buildings as well as in industry and commerce has still to be realised.

REA DY FOR ACTION The technology is perfected, proven and available. The Town Hall of Zurich has, for instance, been heated by water from the Limmat River using a heat pump since 1937. The technology does not need to be subsidised and has no negative ecological, economical or ethical side-effects.

Page 2

EFFICIENCY
Due to the savings in energy and operational costs achieved in comparison to conventional heating or cooling systems, the use of high-capacity heat pumps is especially economical and environmentally friendly.

A further essential usage potential of heat pump technology for increasing energy efciency lies in energy and power plant technology as well as in district heating networks. Chemical, mechanical, endogenous and exogenous processes of all kinds can be used as heat sources or heat sinks. Exhaust heat of all kinds from exhaust air, cooling water or heat from waste water can be used meaningfully with heat pump technology.

Decisive advantages

he heat pumps provide decisive advantages for T building energy certicates. Ecodesign Energy label documents the energy efciency of a heat pump.

OCHSNER industrial heat pumps work efciently and are environmentally friendly, achieving low operating costs, maximum operational safety and longevity. Components of the highest quality, decades of experience and a simple, compact design are the basis for energy efciency, operational safety and customer satisfaction.

During the past years, OCHSNER has continuously re-engineered its high-capacity heat pump series. The aim of this research and development program was especially
to increase the COP values to increase the flow temperatures up to 98C to expand the operating limits to provide maximum operational safety / availability to optimise the control characteristics to optimise the dimensions and weight to reduce noise emission and to secure telemonitoring

Heating and cooling

Exhaust heat is at present largely unused and burdens the environment. In many buildings, heating and cooling is required at the same time. Instead of generating heat with a fuel-red furnace and parallel to that cooling with cold water, the heat pump can full both functions (heating and cooling) at the same time. In the process, unbeatably high energy efciencies with unsurpassably low operating costs result.

APPLICATIONS

Energy recuperation from process and exhaust heat in industry, process and power station engineering

Utilisation of low-temperature exhaust heat (up to 30C) in order to generate room and process heat (up to 98C)
Low-temperature exhaust heat, which cannot be reutilised using conventional heat exchangers, is available in large quantities, especially as a result of mechanical processes or cooling processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries. Using heat pumps, this low-temperature exhaust heat can be efciently brought back up to a useable temperature level.

The heat pump circuit as a cooling process

The heat pump circuit can, as a cooling process, in many cases usefully replace cooling towers and other energy destroying systems. If heat (up to 98C) is then needed at the same time in other parts of the process, the highest COPs and thus the highest energy efciencies are the result.

Hot water heating up to 98C

For food industry, dairies, abattoirs, beverage industry etc.

Utilisation of medium-temperature exhaust heat (35 - 55C)

From ue gas (heating plants), from the return pipework of district heating networks, chemical processes as well as power station processes in order to generate process heat or district heating up to 98C. For the rst time, heat ows at this temperature level can be used and ow temperatures of up to 98C economically generated.
If the heat pump is working in the heating and cooling mode simultaneously, the COPs can be added together.
