1. Install new DRS-WIN software in same directory as old version 2. Start DRS-WIN and read out DRS data from device 3. Save DRS data (XXXX.ve) to directory "Plants" on hard disk 4. For next step the protected object has to be out of operation: Make a spare part of protection device (refer to chapter A) (Caution: trips may occure during this process, watchdog of DRS is active) 5. Initialize spare part DRS with new saved XXXX.ve-file from hard disk (refer to chapter B) 6. If possible - do steps 3 - 5 in the same way with all other DRS devices on plant

A. Make a spare part (DRS-COMPACT or DRS-LIGHT)

The following clears all settings from the VE-card with the following results: no protective functions on this VE-card are working anymore the protected device is not protected anymore the watchdog output releases and possibly connected relays trip the system connected SCADA system stops the system Start with the following steps only when you are sure you want to clear all settings and when the protected system is stopped. On protection device DRS-COMPACT please press SHIFT + ESC System functions Scroll down to menu "Spare Unit". Now press OK Press the sequence RIGHT, UNDO, SHIFT, OK within 5 seconds. VE card should be a spare part (green LED is blinking.)

If you have a DRS-COMPACT without terminal and LCD display please do following steps.

Send Data to the DRS with one of the following:

Button: Send to DRS or Menu: DRS Data Send Data to DRS

You will see the following window:

Now all LEDs on the VE card are blinking together.

During sending data to the DRS, pull out the serial cable on the front of the DRS.

DRS-WIN shows the following picture:

Press Cancel to stop data transfer.

On the VE card press the RESET button.

You must keep it pressed some seconds until the LEDs on the VE card stop blinking and der VE card makes a restart.

Maybe it is necessary to switch off the power supply and switch on again after 1 minute.

The VE card shows the green lamp blinking which means all settings are cleared and it is a Spare Part.

B.

Initialize spare part

Next time you connect with DRS-WIN the VE-card is a Spare Part and it is possible to load any VE-file with any label.

After pressing YES you can select the VE file from the stored files on your computer.

After selection of the VE file click "Open" and DRS-WIN will ask for initialization. Please accept. If VE file and DRS device have same software version, DRS-WIN will initialize the protection device. In case of different software versions you will get a message "There is a version conflict." Please select IGNORE.

For saving the new parameter file on hard disk please read out DRS data from proctection device and save it on the hard disk.

CAUTION: A device which has been initialized with a new DRS-WIN version can not be operated by an old DRS-WIN version.
