Taking It to the Next Level!!!

Benjamin Disraeli says One secret of success in life is for a man (or woman) to be ready for an opportunity when it comes. We are preparing the foundation for our children to be the new masters of the world. That foundation comes with hard work, a strong skill set, a persevering spirit, and a village of advocates and supporters who will provide wisdom and advice to help our kids grow and thrive. Our children are competing with their peers in nations abroad. While we may be considered the best free nation in the world, we are not the only country who yields a desire to cultivate the worlds finest citizens. The Michael J. Perkins Community must hold our children to high expectations in education and living. We should expect our children to perform at the highest levels. They should read each day for at least 30 minutes, tackle addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, algebra, and fractions; write responses to informational text and literature; study nature around them; and maintain a healthy physical and mental existence. We are their first teachers and leaders who provide the role model and experiences that will shape who they are to become. We must commit to taking things to the next level and provide them with everything we have so they can become any and everything they want to be.

Mid Term Review

We are mailing home progress reports, attendance letters (if applicable), and mid-term warning notices (if applicable) to provide you with a birds eye view of your childs performance at the mid point in the school year. I strongly encourage you to spend time with your child talking with them about their performance and learning goals. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your childs teacher. We are one of the Best Schools in Boston because we have the best students, families, teachers, and community leaders. It requires a true partnership amongst us all to ensure that your child(ren) has the best opportunity to be successful.

Preparing for MCAS

We are gearing up for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment of Skills (MCAS), which is the state tests in reading, writing, mathematics, and for Grade 5 onlyScience. In preparation for MCAS, we are asking families to continue to spend time reviewing your childs homework, ensure that your children are sleeping appropriately, eating healthy meals, and arriving to school on time each day prepared to learn. These are very important factors to your childs ability to be successful. We will begin to include MCAS problems in our Perkins Pride to support family engagement with the types of problems our students will encounter on testing days. Please see a couple of problems below:

We are hosting an MCAS Breakfast on this Friday, February 7th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. to share tips, strategies, and resources with our students and their parents.
