GEF ACTION

ON

BIODIVERSITY

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) operates the financial mechanism of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Through February 2000, GEF allocated over one billion dollars to 345 biodiversity projects and enabling activities, matched by almost $1.7 billion in co-financing. The projects deal with in-situ and ex-situ biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in arid and semi-arid lands, coastal and marine sites, forests, and mountain ecosystems.
