Since its initial introduction by Metrico Wireless in 2007, Datum has become a leading solution for carrier-grade data and multi-service performance measurement in the mobile industry, driving pre-launch device performance certification for five of the top seven U.S. operators, and utilized for internal testing by the worlds largest OEMs. Over 700 distinct device models have been evaluated using Datum, designed for robust and repeatable analysis of performance from the subscriber point of view on any device, any network, anywhere.

As mobile networks evolve to 4G, operators are increasingly capable of delivering and subscribers are taking for granted the ability to multi-task on their smartphones. While the end state of converged networks gets ever closer, operators are in various stages of transition including dual-radio devices or CircuitSwitched Fall Back (CSFB) and need to monitor the quality of experience for their distinct implementations of simultaneous voice and data. Datum can measure the effect on performance of voice and data services delivered simultaneously, while connectivity across the cloud enables large-scale, centralized test administration of devices and networks anywhere around the globe. Spirents Datum Enterprise suite has allowed us to centrally manage the device testing of a geographically disperse set of resources with condence. Datum has allowed us to test data cards and handsets using a controlled process while giving us the exibility to dene and perform both automated and ad-hoc manual testing. SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Measuring the Subscriber Experience Datum never alters the device hardware or software so the tests closely mimic your subscribers experience. Any Device, Any Network, Anywhere Datum clients for every major device operating system can measure the effect on performance of voice and data services delivered simultaneously, while connectivity across the cloud enables large-scale, centralized test administration of devices and networks anywhere around the globe. Datum measures:

Data performance, including HTTP, FTP, UDP and web browsing performance and reliability Voice call performance during a data session, including call setup rate, call setup time, call drop rate and call duration Data throughputs before, during and after a voice call

GLOBAL INFRASTRUCTURE
As part of Spirents global infrastructure, Datum has data servers launched worldwide to allow for accurate data performance testing no matter the time zone. Additional infrastructure can be deployed to meet client requirements.

An operator or an OEM can establish a uniform test plan centrally, so results are comparable and repeatable across devices and locations.

Following test execution, the administrator can aggregate and analyze results centrally through DatumBase.

DATUM CLieNT
Test engineers download the Datum client for the subject devices operation system. The client can then connect via the cloud to the specic test set established centrally.
