System Requirements

Web browser: Internet Explorer 6 or higher (recommended for best results)


Operating system: windows xp.
Ram: 512 Mb
Hard disk space: In c:\ drive 300 Mb minimum.

Please read the entire installation file once and start installing.
Installing the product

Step 1: install java1.5 on your machine. Java1.5 is available in tools folder.

-------while installing please don’t change any settings in it. Just keep pressing
next button.

Step 2: install tomcat6.0 on your machine. It is available in tools folder.

-------please do not change any settings. Just keep pressing next and finish
buttons. While installing tomcat6.0 at a point it will ask to enter the user name
and password. Please enter the username as-----admin and password as-----
manager
After successful installation you can see a tray icon of tomcat in your system
tray. It looks like this:

If you cant find this in your system tray just go to start>All Programs>Apache
Tomcat6.0> and click on Monitor Tomcat.

Step 3: install mysql4.1 on your machine. It is available in tools folder.

------while installing, at a point of time the installation wizard will ask you to
enter your email id and password. You need not enter any details.
You will find a radio button named skip sign in. select that radio button and
click next button.
Again at a point, you have to enter the password for the root account. This
time you have to enter the password. Please enter the password as----------
abhinava

Step 4: Now the web application must be deployed.

--------open a web browser. The suitable web browser for this application is
internet explorer6+.
In the address bar type http://localhost:8080/
Then you can see a web page some thing like this.

At the top left side of the web page you can see a link named Tomcat
Manager. Click that link. Then a dialog box appears asking you to enter the
user name and password.
The user name is-----admin
The password is-------manager
Then click ok button.

Then you will be redirected to another web page some thing like this.

Scroll down to the end of the web page. At the end of the web page you can
find a text field asking you to select war file to upload.

Click the browse button. Now browse your system and select the .war file
given to you. The .war file is present in the rfid project\application folder
given to you.

Click the open button. Now the dialog box disappears and the path is copied
into the text field. The web page looks like this.

Now click the deploy button. After clicking the deploy button the same web
page is reloaded again. At the top of the web page you can find a message ok.

Now the application has been successfully deployed. Simply close the web
browser.

Step 5: execute the rfid_ins batch file.

-------while executing the batch file at a certain point of time it will ask to
enter the create database command. Please enter the following command.

------create database abhinava;
Note: try to see that the create database command ends with a
semicolon.
After entering the command then hit enter button on your keyboard.
Then mysql will inform you that the database has been created. Then
type exit and hit enter key one again.

Step 6: go to system tray and find tomcat tray icon. Right click on the icon and select
stop service. Wait for a while, so that the server shut downs. Then once again right
click on tomcat icon and select start service.

Backing up the necessary files
Suppose in future if you want to install the operating system once again, then the files
and current data will be lost. To prevent this from happening you must perform a
backup. Simply execute the backup batch file supplied to you. After backing up copy
the entire rfid project folder to a cd or DVD or any thing else, you can conveniently
perform system formatting. After performing the formatting then again start from the
beginning.

Starting the application

The entire application comes in two modules. The first module is responsible to read
the information from the rfid kit. The second module is the web application which is
used to enter the employee details and monitor employees.

Open the web browse (for best results use internet explorer 6+)

In the address bar type http://localhost:8080/SwipeCardApp

Then a web page is displayed asking you to enter the Id and password.

The default user id is krishna. The default password is krishna.

Please enter these details and select ADMINISTRATOR and click SUBMIT button.
If the user id or password is entered wrong then a message appears saying that user id
or password not valid.

Once you have entered the correct user id and password you will be redirected to the
home page. Once you get signed in you can change your default user id and password.
The home page looks some thing like this.

You have been provided with some links to perform your activities. Let us discuss
them in brief now.
Change password: this link is provided in an image. The image is present in the top
right corner. It looks some thing like this:

Logout: this link is also provided as an image. It is located beside the change
password image.

Now the company details must be entered first. Without entering the company details
we cant enter the employee details.

First we enter the departments present in the company. Next the roles / positions in
that particular department will be entered. For example the departments name can be
Technical and the role or position in that department can be Programmer.

To enter the departments just click Departments link. Then select New Department.
Then enter the department name. The web page to enter the departments looks some
thing like this:

Then select Positions link. Under that select New Position. Another web page is
displayed some thing like this.

Select a particular department and enter the position name.

Once you have entered these details you can view the departments and positions in
appropriate links.

Once these details have been entered then the leave details of the company must be
entered. For that task select Employees link. Under that select Leaves link. Then
another web page is displayed some thing like this:

The default values are zero. Set the values and hit submit button.

Thus you have finished entering the basic information.

Now enter the employee details. This can be done using New Employee link which is
present under Employees link.

Enter the employee basic details and hit submit button. While entering the basic
details the application asks you to enter the employee ID. The ID of the swipe card
issued to the employee must be entered there.

Once the employee basic details have been entered you can start using the rfid kit.

Connect the rfid kit to the serial port.

Now go to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_15\bin. There you can find a batch file


named RFidPro.bat

Execute the batch file. Wait for a while. After few second the batch file will display a
message comx opened for scanning.

Now you can start swiping.

When authorized swipe card is swiped the employee details of the particular swipe
card are displayed in the cmd window.

When an unauthorized card is swiped then an alarm is played to alert the security
guards or the concerned persons.

Note: this RFidPro.bat program must be in execution mode for the whole day. If it is
closed or terminated then employee attendance will not be tracked. This program
must be in execution mode from windows starting to windows shut down. Every day
after windows start up you must go to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_15\bin and
execute RFidPro.bat. This is a slow and tedious process. So create a short cut of this
batch file and move the short cut to windows start up folder. The windows start up
folder is present in C:\Documents and Settings\<your account_name>\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup. Or you can go to start up from start>All
Programs>Startup. Thus every day after the operating system starts up this program
is also started. If in the middle is this program is closed for a while then again go to
start>All Programs>Startup> and click RFidPro.bat.

When ever you want to monitor the employees you can simply start the server which
is located in system tray.

Then connect to http://localhost:8080/SwipeCardApp

Once get connected, you can do the following:

If you want to calculate the salaries for the employees for a particular month, first you
must enter the details of the working days for each month in the current year. Once
you get it done you can calculate the salaries for each and every employee.

You can export the attendance and salary details for all employees or for a particular
employee in an excel sheet.

These excel sheets will he saved in your c:\ drive under emp_attendance folder.
