ILLUMINATION

Diffused daylight illuminates the gallery floors from the sides. The galleries are also lit from a b o v e b y means of specially designed skylights that allow only indirect, diffused day lighting to illuminate the deeper central spaces of the gallery floors.

MATERIAL ANALYSIS & LIGHTING

EXHIBIT AREA: PVC strip 800mm wide is p l a c e d in front of all exhibits which serves as tactile orientation clue to persons with vision impairment.

Natural illumination within the gallery spaces is supplemented b y " intelligent" artificial illumination systems. Daylight sensors automatically regulate the overall ambient lighting within gallery spaces to a preset illumination level that remains constant irrespective of variations in sunlight caused b y diurnal or seasonal cycles. The primary illumination within the galleries is therefore provided by designed day lighting, supplemented with synchronised, colour balanced, high efficiency fluorescent light fittings. A grid of ceiling mounted lighting tracks provide further flexibility to highlight specific art objects using specially devel oped low glare track mounted luminaries.
