Service
Attributes
A service is what a CE sees (UNI-to-UNI)
UNI is the demarcation between service provider and Customer responsabilities
• Dedicated to a single subscriber
• Standard Ethernet compliant with IEEE802.1D/Q and IEEE802.3

Ingress Process
Classification :
- flow identification based on the Ethernet frame :
- (Port and L2 header (SA, DA, Ethertype, VID, PCP)
- define CoS and process
- SVLAN associated to the frame
Metering :
- rate measurement
- define drop precedence (green, yellow, red)
Marking :
• mark CoS or Drop Precedence in L2 (PCP bits)
Policing :
• Ingress rate limitation by immediate Red frame/packet dropping

Egress Process
Discarding :
• Queue overflow prevention via a discard algorythm f(port, CoS, Drop Precedence):
- Tail Drop (TD)
- Weighted RED (WRED)
Queuing :
• Store frame/packet in the appropriate queue
Scheduling :
- queue extraction via a queuing algorythm:
- Strict Priority (SP)
- Weighted Round Robin (WRR)
Shaping :
• Eggress rate control per port or per queue (one queue per CoS and per port)

1.6.1. VCAT
37
Concatenation
Compliant to G.707
Virtual Concatenation (VCAT): ie. VC3-2v, VC4-7v
- For a better bandwidth adjustment the VC can be concatenated
- requires a specific processing at both ends of a connection. No impact on
intermediate nodes
- resulting aggregated channel is named a VC group (VCG)
- channels of the same VCG may follow different paths, resulting in different
propagation delays. The receiving node must store the different members in order to
perform realignment
- Multi-Frame Indicator (MFI) and Sequence Nbr (SQ) in the H4 byte provide the
necessary information for a successful alignment;

1.6.2. LCAS
38
The GFP2500 card enables activation of the standard protocol "Link Capacity
Adjustment System" (LCAS) independently on each of the 22 VCGs.
LCAS is useful to :
• Dynamically add or remove VC members from a VCG without deactivating the VCG
(making it a hitless operation for traffic)
• Dynamically adjust the available bandwidth when alarms are triggered ON/OFF on the
VC members of a VCG. The bandwidth of every VC under failure is subtracted from the
VCG bandwidth. Hence, in case of failures the VCG continues to forward traffic as long as
there is still at least one operational VC
Without LCAS :
• The GFP2500 card requires deactivation of a VCG before VC members can be added or
removed (it forces a traffic interruption)
• A VCG becomes completely broken as soon as an alarm is triggered on at least one VC
member. Plus, it becomes operational again only once no VC is under failure anymore.

The GFP2500 card allows to define two S-Vlan tags which can be used
for the configuration :
• the tag 802.1Q defined by the standard
• a tag whose configuration is offered in the Global Settings window of
the "Switch" menu

Classifications
Classification based on "C-Vlan"
• all the frames received on this port and whose value of C-Vlan corresponds to the
defined values in "C-Vlan range" will be associated to the S-Vlan.
Classification based on "User Predefined" :
• all the frames satisfying User Predefined will be associated to this S-Vlan
Classification based on "Default"
• all the frames of this port answering no other classification will be associated to this S-
Vlan

COS or TC
For each SVAN the class of priority of the frames is defined from 0 to 7 (S-Vlan List >
CoS menu).
In this configuration the same priority will be allotted to all the frames of the VLAN

It is also possible to choose the mode User Priority
In this case the priority of each frame of the SVLAN will be defined according to the
configuration of the table proposed in the screen Switch > Port Priority.
