Key Vocabulary:
Additive process- Adding material to the piece (Example: clay, or Assemblage project) Subtractive process- Sculpture begins with a material and removes or subtracts material until the work is finished. (Example: Carving) Form- Objects having three-dimensions. (Height, width, and depth) Texture- Implied or actual texture. The feel of an image or painting. Rasp- A sculpture tool used for clay or plaster. A file with sharp, rough teeth for cutting into the surface. Low relief- A relief sculpture with positive areas that project from the flat surface.

Key Vocabulary:
Non-objectiveartwork that has no recognizable subject matter. Positive spacethe objects or shapes themselves Negative spacethe area around the positive shapes or the background. For sculpture that can be the shape or space inside of the piece

George Segal
November 1924June 2000

Segal was born in New York. His parents were Jewish decent originally from Eastern Europe.
Because of WW2 Segal put his studies on hold to help on his familys farm. Segal wanted to make art based on the real world instead of pure abstractionism that was very popular at that time. He was able to receive his teaching degree in 1949 for art education.

Objective
Demonstrate problem-solving skills through out the project. Consider the form as well as the negative space around the form. Both are equally important. Have a detailed preliminary sketch before you start carving.

Henry Moore
July 1898August 1986
Moore is best known for his semi-abstract bronze sculptures that are located around the world as public art. Moore used the female body as the subject matter for many of his sculptures. Modernisman art movement that was completely different that realism.
