COURSE SYNOPSIS: This course discusses various operational research models and the methods to solve them. The focuses are on linear programming (LP), goal programming (GP), data envelopment analysis (DEA), analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and others. Emphasize will be on model formulation, solutions approaches, duality and sensitivity analysis. Examples of how these models can be used to solve real life problems will be emphasized.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding and apply operational research models and methods in real-life situations. (C3, EM2) 2. Apply operational research models and methods in real-life situations and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of certain operational research models. (C3, EM2, LL2) 3. Demonstrate the understanding of how and why models and methods in operational research evolved. (C3) 4. Critically discuss the latest applications and development in operational research and solve operational research problems by using computer software. (C3, A2, P3, CT3) 5. Work in teams, communicate effectively, and manage information to improve the quality of learning. (TS3, CS3, LL2) REFERENCES: 1. Anderson, D.R., Sweeney, D.J., Williams, T.A. & Camm, J.D. (2010). STUDENT EVALUATION Your grade will be based on an assignment, the best of two quizzes, a tests and the final exam. The distribution is as follows: Assignment 1 Assignment 2 QUIZ 1 QUIZ 2 Final Examination Total 15% 15% 15% 15% 40% 100%

Students are expected to attend all meetings of the class. Attendance will be taken regularly. If a student misses a class, plan to get notes for that day from a classmate. Missing an exam or a quiz/assignment without an advance valid excuse presented to the Instructor will result in a score of 0 points. Make-ups will be given only in pre-approved situations and to those students with special cases.
