V) The use of language arts in listening and speaking lesson.

Language arts is a bored area which includes the following components: 1. Phonics and fluency understanding sounds through letter recognition, blending, and decoding is the foundation for rereading and reading, which leads to fluency. 2. Grammar and conventions De eloping skills in spelling, punctuation, parts of speech, erbs tenses and sentence types leads to better reading writing, listening and speaking. 3. Reading comprehension strategies ! "uilding critical thinking skills through pre!reading, reading comprehension, making inferences, asking #uestions, summari$ing, comparing and contrasting, analy$ing characters, and identifying cause and effect creates an understanding of literature. 4. Vocabulary ! Learning multiple meanings, synonyms, antonyms, prefi%es, suffi%es, parts of speech, and using conte%t clues help students broaden their oral e%pression, writing, and speaking skills. 5. riting ! "eginning with prewriting, applying the writing process, sentence and paragraph structure, se#uencing, con entions, and arious genres of composition, response, analysis, and creati e thinking structures students& writing. Language arts play a ery significant role in the de elopment of communication skill among students. The process de elopment directly influences the students' ability to be successful learners, to become self!actuali$ed and to lead producti e li es. (hildren de elop a lo e of language and become independent readers and writers o er the course of their primary school years. )tudents are surrounded by words, stories, discussions, books, debates, poetry, poems, music, and dramatic productions in their classrooms. )tudents learn to read, write and use language effecti ely for communication and e%change through a combination of formal instruction and in connection with the other core disciplines of instruction. *ll students in the primary grades e%perience the power of language in communicating with others in authentic ways through class discussions, morning meetings, small group problem!sol ing acti ities and collaborati e group pro+ects. )tudents in all grades ha e times for independent reading, small group reading and read!aloud. )tudents read both fiction and non! fiction materials. *s they mature, students will participate in teacher and student!led literature groups, and studies of a series of no els focusing on themes such as identity, family and social alues. Teachers in grades one and two focus primarily on de eloping students& reading fluency and pro ide specific instruction on phonics, decoding strategies, spelling and word patterns, word parts, syllabication, and comprehension strategies. )tudents engage in creati e writing e%ercises and write personal autobiographies to further the de elopment of their language skills.

The emphasis shifts in grades three, four and fi e to de eloping students' writing skills, and students recei e instruction in writing con entions, punctuation, different genres of writing, grammar, spelling, editing and publishing. Teachers also focus instruction on e%panding students' ocabulary knowledge through both word work and reading. To encourage an appreciation of written and spoken language as a means for social and intellectual e%change, teachers pro ide students with de elopmentally appropriate opportunities for reading aloud and independently and for writing independently and in collaborati e groups on a multitude of topics, in each case, for pleasure and for information.
