ARCHMERE ACADEMY 7TH ANNUAL FINE ARTS FESTIVAL TO HONOR THE LATE LIFE MAGAZINE PHOTOGRAPHER, BILL EPPRIDGE 55
(Claymont, DE) March 14, 2014 On Saturday, March 22, 2013, Archmere Academy will celebrate its seventh annual Fine Arts Festival, this time with a unique twist. As always, the event will feature artwork from the schools variously talented students enrolled in its awardwinning Fine Arts Program, but this year the school will also pay special tribute to the late Bill Eppridge, a graduate from the class of 1955 and one of the most accomplished photographers and photojournalists of the twentieth century.

Eppridge, who passed suddenly earlier this year, was a well-known, award-winning photo journalist for Life Magazine, whose iconic work has appeared in numerous national publications, including Life Magazine, National Geographic, and Sports Illustrated. Eppridge received some of the highest honors his profession bestows: the NPPA Joseph A. Sprague Memorial Award (1996), The Missouri School of Journalism Honor Medal (2009), and the Lucie Award for Achievement in Photojournalism (2011). His photographs have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and other museums around the world.

He was also the author of The Beatles: Six Days that Changed the World. February 1964, a photo memoir of almost entirely unpublished images of the Beatles historic first trip to the United States, which was just released this past month. P ublished to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles first visit to the United States, this rare collection of photographs marks the beginning of the British Invasion. In February 1964, photographer Bill Eppridge was on assignment for Life magazine to cover the bands arrival at JFK airport and was invited to continue shooting them on their tour.

At Archmere Academys 2014 Fine Arts Festival, which takes place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Patio, a building on the National Historic Register, Adrienne Aurichio, wife of the late Bill Eppridge 55 and editor of the book will give a brief presentation and book signing. The formal program for the evening, including Adriennes presentation and performances by the academys Stage Band and the Mastersingers, will begin at 6:00 p.m.
