EMC-RP Replication of LUNs

Login to the EMC Unisphere, login to the storage by selecting the storage either from drop down or from the list.

Go to storage and select LUN

Click on Create > and provide the required Name and Size and select Thin for allocating the LUNs as with Thin provisioning. And click Apply

Similarly create all required LUNs in DR site and Create Journal LUNs in both Production and DR site.

At Production site, we can create Journal LUN for of size 10 GB, but in DR site best practice is to create a Journal of size of 10% of the LUN which we need to replicate. One from Unisphere: Go to Data Protection > Select Recover Point -> We need to login with local admin to Unisphere to work this

Creating the Consistency Group

Select the Consistency Group and > Right click and select the Add group

Create consistency Groups Name # Provide server name (for one server we can have one group, but free to create more as pre requirement) 1ry RPA: Select RPA based on the load balance (Select alternating RPA for each group or best way to balance load) Bandwidth Reduction: Medium Enable dedupe - yes Protection - Asyn RPO - select -> System optimized lag Resource allocation : Priority : Normal Bandwidth Limitation : select limited -> select 500 Mbps Stretch Cluster /VMware SRM -> None Advance - no change Make sure allow data transfer if RPA is failed

Production copy: Configuration for Consistency group Name# hostname_Prod ( Provide server name _Prod ) Journal comp -> none Protection : Enable Recovery port snapshot consolidation: Do not consolidate for at least 24 hours: Older than 2days : 5 days 1 weeks to one snapshot -> 0

Select Advance and select Host Os as Windows:

Replica Copies Configuration: Here we have two options : One for Local copy and Another for Remote Copy . Select Remote copy as we need to replicate Provide Name and other details similar to the Production copy configuration. Replication Sets : Select LUNs for replicating

Then click Next and Select DE LUN on which we need to replicate the Data

Journals ( Adding / creating Journals ) If we have already created the Journals , select manually select Journal Volumes ( recommended )

Select the Production site Journal ( generally of 10 GB size, always give LUN name correctly while creating to identify properly )

Select the DR site Journal ( 10% in size of LUN which we need to replicate)

Click next and see the Summary

Note# if you dont want to start the replication immediately , removes the tick mark. And then Apply.

Monitor the network usage ( MGRT) and monitor the LUN replication status from main window

At first , LUN replication will do the initial copy , and status of the CG will be Init , we can also see the % completed on the DR LUN .

Once done with the Initial copy the Pair status will become Active . Then you can s tart using the DR LUNs ( Will allow you to do Image access )
