Mobile UHF RFID reading

Where are mobile UHF Readers required?

Stock takes perform full store inventory many
times more quickly than having to find and read each item level barcode. Retail at front / back of store verify goods

inwards match paperwork, quickly find items to allow

front of store to be replenished, find mis-shelved items in front of store. Asset management rapid inventory of assets, storing maintenance/inspection records on the asset where WAN connectivity is not guaranteed.

Where are mobile UHF Readers required?

Distribution reading/writing data to tags on pallets and roll cages before loading onto vehicles. Document tracking use find-a-tag mode to locate a folder. Manage document check in / check out. Exception scanning where an item cannot for some reason be read by standard fixed / portal readers. Maybe it is too bulky, or the tag is too small.

A few limitations of current mobile UHF RFID reader devices

Performance constraints read range, read rate, tag singulation, write performance, battery life (run time) etc.

Choice of operating system / user interface is limited to whatever the mobile reader offer

In situations where the majority of the mobile device usage is not for RFID the user can end up with an unnecessarily large and cumbersome dual technology handheld.

A few limitations of current mobile UHF RFID reader devices

End Users have to buy the reader and handheld together. When one is obsolete both must be replaced.

Existing handheld mobile computers are no longer any use and

must be thrown away when new mobile readers are purchased.

Incompatible with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) schemes.

BYOD
