REFLECTION PAPER ONE

Supposing that education is one of the most important factors in nurturing a human beings culture which helps bring people together, I choose teaching as my profession for my life. I am more or less contributing to our society through teaching and vice versa, I always have opportunity to perfect myself. Passion on learning English at university and passion on teaching is the internal motivation which guides me to English teaching. And the objectives I aim to teach is college students who are going to ta e a turning point on the way of learning. I thin an effective university learning environment is the place where students find their learning motivations from their proffessors guides and with the support of school facilities such as library, multimedia means, labotary. !owever, I personally believe that the teaching staff ta es the most important role in students leaning "uality. #or me, the standards for effective teaching are good nowledge, good methods, strategies, right choice of teaching materials and good "ualifications of the teacher. $ood nowledge is not enough to have an interesting and effective lecture. %he teachers have to apply the right methods, good prepared activities, and be fle&ible in class. I myself believe that it is more rewarding to teach students how to learn best, how to gain the nowledge by themselves rather than giving students all I now. 'ecause they may forget what I have taught them but they will always remember what they find themselves. #irst of all, I view myself a facilitator and an instructor in my classroom rather than as an e&pert who simply delivers information to students. I bring them the scaffolding to build up themselves in learning. !owever, whatever roles I am in class, I always ma e myself confident in the way I teach my children for my careful preparation before going to class. And I thin that is the re"uirement for a sucessful lecture. %he two methods I prefer using are the ()%, and tas *based English teaching. I thin that students will be more active, creative and learn better in some output s ills such as spea ing in a learner*centered class. At that time, I organi+e the e&citing activities such as pair*wor , group*wor , especially role*play activity which relate to the lesson in order to help them gain the objectives of the lesson deeply through their brainstorming and creativity. I used to feel very happy when I saw my students satified smile after ta ing in my role*play activity with a mini story outline I supplied to them. ,r when I warmed up the lesson by giving them a crossword picture stic ed on the board which they had to guess the vocabulary. 'ut sometimes, I believe combining different ways of teaching give the most benefits for that the students feel more interesting and involved in the lesson with the new ways of conveying nowledge. Sometimes it is unapproriate to teach grammar rules ar writing s ill with ()% style. %herefore, it is essential to be creative in teaching and select the appropriate ones in the variety of activities in each method.

I reali+e that it is important to build up a good rapport with my students. I respect my students and when planning a curriculum or interacting with students, I am always conscious of their different learning styles and rates, what they have already learned and what they will need to learn in the future. I enhance my sts self*study and motivation by encouraging them to do assignments, guide them how to study at home efficiently, raising and rewarding their good autonomy and orientation. And it is also effective of teaching by supplying learners a comfortable air in classroom in order they do not feel shy when cooparting and sharing with their peers, one way to establish self* confidence for English learners in their target language. A comfortable atmosphere of learning and teaching is vital but it is not useless to establish students good habit in class rules. !owever, it is so hard to get sastified with what happen in class which reminds me a memory when I came to teach a class of about -. students of class seven for the first time in my life. I tried to put them in a comfortable +one where they practiced their spea ing after reading activity, but they too advantage to chat in /ietnamese which dissapoited me a lot. And I come to reali+e that it should be more disciplined in telling them what they must and must not do in such orgain+ed activities. !owever,

)east but not less, I thin evaluation is the ey element to improve my teaching effectiveness. 0hat students have percieved through my teaching is reflective in their improvement of learning, their mar s, their attitude towards the course I am ta ing and towards me. It is very essential to receive students feedbac and responds. I encourage them to write diary. It help them in learning and also remind them the figure of an English teacher in their mind. It is deeply happy if you are a teacher that your students never forget you in their life. I also self evaluate my strenghs, my wea nesses, what I have well*done and what I have not done well after a lesson. It is really effective for me to develop my strong s ills and minimi+e my wea points in teaching. ,ne another way to get e&periences is ma ing class observation and being observed from my collea"ues.
