ENG 201 Mid-Semester ePortfolio

In this course, we work on the ePortfolio in three phases: 1) early set-up and tech demonstrations; 2) the midsemester requirements; and 3) the final requirements of the course. At this mid-semester phase, you are simply asked to look back at all of the writings that you have done in the course so far. You have done a lot of writing, sharing, and critical thinking in this class and now you are ready to influence a larger world of ideas that goes beyond the walls of this classroom! All ENG 201 students must create a portfolio of their writings and thinking from the course. Our goal here is do more than just fulfill a school/program assignment though; we want to use writing for what it is really meant to do: shape others and make its mark on the world. Whatever you do and create in your ePortfolio, let it come from you and let it move others! You have a 30-point spread for this ePortfolio. You can basically use this point-spread as a checklist for yourself. Your fulfillment of the 30 points is how will receive the points/grade for the assignment (for a review of the semesters entire 200 points, please see the syllabus calendar). Please refer to the point-spread below FREQUENTLY so that you know exactly what is expected of you. The point-spread here is not trying to simply capture the rules of a teacher; these points have been designed with the sole purpose of ensuring that your ePortfolio is professional, intellectually creative, inspiring, in-depth and cohesive. You should walk away from this class with a digital footprint you can be proud of.

Design and General Issues


Some of these points represent your initial set-up for your ePortfolio. It was graded weeks before.

1) Your Header spans the entire 779X200 pixels space and you have a Background image that communicates with the header in theme/message. 2) You have an "About Me" page under the "About this Site" tab with photo of yourself (it should be clear whether you did option A or B for this). You paid careful attention to the About Me page: proofread, edited, spell-checked, no paragraph indentation, line spaces for indenting. 3) You have an ePortfolio title, ePortfolio URL that indicates your name, and a directory icon. You have accurate privacy settings (it should NOT be open yet) with permissions to Carmen and ENG 101. 4) You paid careful attention to the landing page: its message matches the title/theme of the ePort; its graphic design works well with the background, header, and CSS; it gives credits for the images used in header, background, etc 5) You paid careful attention to the About the Design of this Site: proofread, edited, spell-checked, no paragraph indentation, line spaces for indenting, addresses all questions. Your 3-color scheme works with the header and background (no white webpages unless the header and background are white) 6) There are no surface errors anywhere in the About this Site tab (errors are not simply about getting the grammar right here you are trying to establish credibility as a public writer). 7) The overall font is large enough to read and easy to see for viewers with multiple visual needs and abilities. 8) There are no weird formatting issues (big gaps, big spaces, etc). indentations on the left tab too. 9) You created a CONTACT module and added a little prose to that page that welcomes readers to leave you a note. 10) You have spelled titles correctly and followed standard capitalization rules for titles (for top tabs and left tabs).

Digital Rhetorics (part 1): The Collab Essay


This section of the ePort will containyour collaborative essay.

11) You design each paragraph so that it works to make its own unique contribution and moves your argument forward or onwards. The entire essay flows according to a central theme. 12) You incorporate at least two of the theoretical readings that the class has done about rhetorical analysis, etc. These readings/sources are weblinked or there is an APA bibliography at the end. 13) You incorporate quotes from the rhetor and deeply unpack their meanings. The videos are also embedded in the essay and flow with the essay at critical, relevant points. 14) Your own writing, along with your partners writing, have been included. You have edited and revised the ENTIRE essay, including your partners work. Your partners name is included in the title/left tab. 15) You have incorporated weblinks and images on this page and created a very dynamic and well-informed digital essay!

Digital Rhetorics (part 2): Reading Responses


This section of the ePort will contain any 2 reading responses that you like.

16) You included a unique and creative title for this section/tab and did not leave it as Digital Rhetorics (spelled and capitalized correctly). 17) You have included at least two reading responses in this section that are each at least 700 words long (the equivalent of two pages); each has at least one image that relates critically to the texts content (it must be left or right justified). 18) Your two reading responses have weblinks or use a bibliography to indicate sources. 19) Each ePage in this section has an interesting title in the left tab (no need for headings and titles on the ePages). 20) Each ePage has been edited and proofread closely. There are no glaring surface errors that impede credibility. 21) Each ePage is written for a public audience rather than a teacher/classroom (you do not have assignment headings, mention classes/people that only people at JJay know, etc). 22) There is a 500-word (minimum) Reflection for this section that addresses:
You wrote an essay with a partner and then re-created that essay in digital form on your ePortfolio. What was that process like? Do you think there is a difference between the digital version of your collaborative essay and the paper version? If not, explain. If so, what is the difference? You have worked on two very different platforms now: weebly and digication. Which do you like better and why? We have read about digital rhetrocis and NOW you have done it! How would you define YOUR digital rhetoric?

23) Your Reflection has at least one image that relates critically to the texts content

(the source of the image must be explained at bottom of page) and has no surface errors.

Digital Justice
This section of the ePort presents your weebly website and prezi/slideshare.

25) You included a unique and creative title for this section/tab and did not leave it as Digital Justice (spelled and capitalized correctly). 26) You embed the prezi or slideshare of your digital justice project and write a short introduction to it. Its look matches your weebly websites look or at least you have used an original background for your presentation! 27) You have created an appealing webpage that showcases your weebly website using images from your weebly website. You include a weblink to the website and INTERESTING text from the homepage (you can change what you like for the ePort). 28) There is a 500-word (minimum) Reflection for this section that addresses: Look back at your website. What do you like best and why? What would you do differently now? Why? What did you learn about web design in this project? What did you learn about yourself as a web designer in this project? Who do you hope your website reaches and why? 29) Your Reflection has at least one image that relates critically to the texts content (the source of the image must be explained at bottom of page) and has no surface errors. 30) You have included all of the drafts of this project as a tile-gallery of images of each page of your entire drafting process (you can use your phone to take photos of your draftsdo this all the time now).

Notice that you can still get an A and NOT take your ePort wayyyy over the top. If you do choose to GO FOR IT, these points are for you!

31) You created more tabs and content than is required of this ePortfolio (i.e, more reflections, favorite pieces, etc). About what? Well, that is all connected to the purposes and design that YOU have chosen for yourself with this ePortfolio. 32) You used music, video, and words in more than just the prescribed places for these assignments and creatively linked that to your writing and images.
