Design Challenge
The convention-centre is one of the types of building that act as an icon of the city. It not only reflects the cultural and economy of the place, it publishes the city s values internationally. Hence create an iconic architecture, which reflects the present scenario and values. The requirements are: 1) An auditorium to accommodate approximately 5,000 people 2) Three Exhibition Halls ranging in size from of 3000 5000 sq mts 3) Two Multifunctional Halls with seating capacity of 3000 people 4) Meeting Rooms - seating for 50 (x3), 30 (x3), 10 (x10) 5) Hotel with 150 rooms, three restaurants (20 tables each) 6) Office Spaces (5000sq mts) 7) Multi-level car park to accommodate a minimum of 1,500 cars 8) Landscape Area 9) Open-Theatre (500 audience) 10) Services STP, WTP, Sub-Station, Security Stations, etc.

Scope of Work:
Case Study Stage 20 Marks (break-up): The Class shall be split in to eight groups, each group comprising of five members. Each group shall study a convention centre (Govt / Private). The case study shall cover the following topic (70%): o Layout of the convention centre o Spatial Layout of each area in the centre o Building structure (steel or RCC or long span, etc.) study o Movement Analysis within the site (Car, Two Wheelers, Service-Vans, People etc.) o Services Layout Fire, Plumbing, Sump (Fire), HVAC layout o Traffic Movement around the site (500 mts radius from Site) Indian Standard Code For emergency staircase, lifts, corridors, services etc (15%) Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority Rules & Regulations for large site, FSI details, Local Area Development plan study, Parking and Access rules, etc. (10%) Site: History, Heritage, and Future Plans of Development around 500 mts including road expansion (5%). Design Stages: Concept Stage 20 Marks: Master Plan of Site visitors movement, vehicular movement, orientation, CMDA rules incorporation, Emergency access and location, F.S.I, etc. Area Layout Plan incorporating 500mts site-surrounding area details including road width (future expansion proposed by CMDA) with Transportation Nodes and TNEB Connection.
