Power Supply

The measuring instrument HMP PDGpro is provided by 4 NiMH
rechargeable batteries, which are located within the battery
compartment on the backside. These rechargeable batteries can
be charged by means of the charger and the adapter cable of
measurement instrument ( Charging of Rechargeable Batteries).
In emergencies measuring instrument can also be provided by
4 AA batteries.

Charging of Rechargeable Batteries

In case that nonrechargeable batteries are used in the
device, the charger must not be connected, because
otherwise the device could be damaged.

In case that the rechargeable batteries voltage of the measuring
instrument falls below the required minimum voltage, an information
appears on the display and the rechargeable batteries have to be
charged.

The rechargeable batteries should be charged only by means of
the supplied power pack charger and adapter cable of measuring
instrument. The power pack charger can be connected to a 100
240 V / 50 60 Hz mains supply or, by means of an adapter cable,
to a 12 24 V car battery. The adapter cables are included in the
scope of supply, and are housed in the carrying case. The power
pack charger is housed in the carrying case beneath the measuring
instrument.

Measuring Procedure

For theoretical foundations of the measuring process please refer
to DIN 18134, issue 2012.

Start Measurement

B Press the key to switch on the measuring instrument.
On the LCD display appears the main menu (on the left) incl.
device type and serial number (xxxx), the individual menu
items and the stress state of the measuring device batteries.
Optionally appears a hint regarding the GPS device and/or
charge state of the printer rechargeable batteries.

Before starting the measurement the desired measuring
range has to be chosen within the measuring instrument
( page 20).

In case that the rechargeable batteries voltage of the
measuring instrument falls below the required minimum
voltage, the hint meas. dev. charge appears ( page 8).

If the note printer charge occurs on the display, the
printer has to be charged before using to avoid a deep
discharge of the power pack (Charging of power pack
page 15).

B Press the key to acknowledge the Measuring mode at the
basic menu.
A note for logging GPS Data and/or the last calibration date
optionally appear on the LCD display (dependent on the
settings of the measuring instrument).
B .Acknowledge optionally the note for logging GPS data. It is not
required to acknowledge the last calibration date.
The menu shown on the left is displayed on the screen:
Number of the current measuring series and the current
measuring range (xxx xxx)
Number of the current measuring point
Compression #.#### MN/m
Settlement #.## mm
These values result from weight of testing equipment.
Measuring is not possible in case of full memory. A
corresponding note appears.

To continue measuring stored series may be removed
(e.g. by transferring to the USB-Stick or the PC or
printing) and subsequently deleted to provide the device
with new storage capacity.

It is recommended to transfer the test series and
measurement results stored in the measuring instrument
regularly onto the provided USB-Stick or to the PC
( page 13/13) and to delete afterwards the data in the
measuring instrument ( Seite 14).
In this way the transference time will be shortened and
multiple data transfer avoided.

approaching the required preload, according to DIN 18134,
issue 2012, to set the displayed value for the settlement to zero.
The start value for the pressing and the zero value for the
settlement appear on the LCD display. These values are
stored as first measured values.
The local display on the dial gauge remains unaffected by this
zero setting.

Please refer to DIN 18 134, issue 2012 for the required
number of measurements and set values to perform.
Set values according to DIN 18 134, issue 2012 are stored
on the measuring device as orientation for the examiner,
for load plates with diameter of 300 mm.
If the measuring range 300 is selected, the specific set
values are displayed on the screen.

Perform Measurement
B Approach the set point with the hydraulic pump.
(Operating Instructions Hydraulic System refer to Annex 2,
page 23.)
The measured value for compression and settlement appears
on the display.
The number of the current measuring series and the current
measuring range, the number of the current measuring point
and also the nominal value for the pressing (setpoint) are
displayed.
B Accept the value after the required waiting time by pressing the
key.
The Values by pressing key are frozen in the display.
B By means of the selection keys it can be switched
between the mode save, the mode delete and the mode
quit?.

B Press the key to acknowledge Store or Delete of the

AP 1300 Miniprinter

Included in the HMP PDGpro scope of supply is an AP 1300
miniprinter (optional).

Power supply
The printer can be operated independent of a power supply unit,
and is powered by a 1.8 Ah NiMH power pack housed in the
printer. Thus, the printer can be carried from job to job.

Safety

l The NiMH power pack is provided with an internal fuse
unit. However, a short-circuit may occur when the NiMH
power pack gets into contact with metallic items.
l The power pack must not be opened; otherwise it may
leak out or a short-circuit may occur.
l Before you remove or replace the power pack,
disconnect it from the external power pack charger.

The power pack has to be charged only by means of the supplied
power pack charger. The power pack charger can be connected to
a 100 240 V / 50 60 Hz mains supply or, by means of an
adapter cable, to a 12 24 V car battery. The adapter cable is
included in the scope of supply, and is housed in the carrying case.
The AP1300 printer is shipped with a connected and fully loaded
power pack.

l When the printer is used for the first time after a lengthy
period or has been standing idle for a lengthy period,
recharge the power pack prior to use.
l In the event of malfunction the printer may only be
opened by authorised personnel.

Charging of power pack

l For charging the power pack it is only allowed to use the
supplied power pack charger.
l Use the power pack charger only indoors. Disconnect the
device from the mains if it is not used. Do not operate the
device in case of damage to the housing or the mains
plug.
l Only charge nickel/metal hydride power packs; its use for
charging other batteries may involve an explosion
hazard.
l Do not open the power pack charger.

GPS Receiver

The Plate Load Tester HMP PDGpro is optionally equipped with an
external highly sensitive GPS receiver to determine the measuring
position.

The coordinates are captured fast and exactly, because of newest
technology, are transferred to the measuring instrument

in the device.

Basis for the determination of the measuring position with
the GPS receiver is a measuring location, where this
device has free reception.

Green LED flashing:
- GPS active (position is determined).
Green LED unsteady:
- Batteries too low (not possible to determine the position).

In case the batteries of the GPS receiver are too low, the
request GPS Batt. change is displayed.

Power supply / Changing Batteries

The GPS receiver is powered by 2 pieces of LR03 batteries.

The scope of delivery includes 2 spare batteries and a screwdriver
suitable for battery changing.

In case that the batteries of the GPS receiver are empty or too low,
the batteries have to be replaced as follows:
B Loosen the screw of the battery box cover on the back side of

Use GPS Receiver

B Switch on the GPS receiver.
Initialization and determination of the position
(lasts at least 1 minute).
B Wait, until the position is determined and the LED flashes green.
B Press the key to switch on the measuring instrument.
At the bottom of the display the GPS status appears.
B If the GPS status is not displayed, the GPS function can be
activated in the menu settings under menu item device ().
B Conduct the measurement corresponding to instruction manual.

After acknowledgement the Measuring mode the coordinates are
submitted from the GPS receiver to the measuring instrument and
associated to the series of measurement. The coordinates are
automatically saved when storing the measuring results.

For saving batteries energy turn off the GPS receiver
during disuse or after transmission of the coordinates to
the measuring instrument.

When printing out the measuring results via thermal printer, the
position coordinates are automatically added.
The measuring results and corresponding coordinates can be
printed out immediately at the site or can be transferred to the PC
for subsequent processing.

If the GPS receiver is not being used, prior to measurement the
GPS function of the measuring instrument has to be deactivated.

If in the measuring instrument the GPS function is
activated and the GPS receiver is not connected or not
ready, the note No GPS-Position appears. Now the
measuring process can be aborted or continued without
the acquisition of GPS-data.
