Windows
The display of Tecnomatix products is divided into various distinct regions, each constituting a separate window. The various windows can be moved, resized, and hidden behind other windows. A specific use is assigned to each such window. The remainder of this section describes the uses of the windows and the operations which can be performed on them.

Using Windows
This section describes the individual windows comprising the multiple-window display of Tecnomatix products: menus, directories, graphics, commands, messages, data and utilities. Not all products use all of the windows. They are illustrated below.

Menus window. The menus window is located along the top of the display; it display the name of the product, the full UNIX pathname of the working directory, and a list of the menus pertaining to the product. The contents of the selected menu are displayed in the commands window. Directories window. The directories window is located directly under the menus window in the Data tool only. It displays the names of the source and destination directories used for many of the copy commands. The names appear adjacent to the names of the commands which specify these directories. Graphics window. The primary window of graphics products is the graphics window: it displays graphics information. Unlike the other windows, this window may be resized and duplicated as desired; it can even fill the entire screen in order to show complicated simulations with enhanced detail.

Viewpoint window. A special type of graphics window is provided for the Viewpoints commands in the Display menu. Because this window is constituted as the viewfinder of a camera, the parallel projection, viewpoint and full view commands in the Window Setup submenu (described in the Keyboard-Mouse Utilities section of the on-line documentation) are disabled, as are viewpoint changes with the mouse and with the HOME and arrow keys. A bright red border distinguishes this window. Draft window. A two-dimensional graphics window is provided for drafting commands available with some Tecnomatix products. For this window, the show floor, show shadows, perspective projection and viewpoint commands in the Window Setup submenu are disabled. Eye-position changes with the mouse and with the HOME and arrow keys are also disabled; pan and zoom, however, are available. Commands window. The commands window is located at the right edge of the display; it lists the submenus and commands pertaining to the selected menu in the menus window. Some of these menus function in parallel with other menus; after selecting them, the commands window can be moved away to the left to reveal another commands window listing the commands pertaining to previously selected menus. Messages window. The messages window is located under the graphics window. It displays up to three lines of text, each having a distinct function:

The message line is first; it conveys such necessary messages as whether or not a command terminated successfully, e.g., Syntax error. During a simulation, the message command determines the level of messages shown on this line. Previous messages are preserved and can be viewed by picking the scroll arrows. The prompt line follows; it announces the currently expected user input, e.g., Enter command. The echo line is last; it echoes input typed by the user.
In addition to this messages window, additional messages windows are opened as needed for various commands and applications; examples include the Workcell Data menu and the Programming application selected for the applications command in the Robcad menu. Data window. The data window, located along the bottom of the display, lists the data returned by or required for the current command. Some menus use separate data windows, for example, the Simulation menu; these data windows are superimposed on previously displayed data windows. Toolbox Manager. Located at the lower right corner of the display, the Toolbox Manager contains toolboxes that depend on the currently displayed Tecnomatix product. But the bottom row contains toolboxes common to all Tecnomatix products.

Manipulating Windows
This section describes the manner in which the individual windows of multiple-window displays can be manipulated. The operations which can be performed on all of them are move, raise, lower and redisplay; in addition, the graphics window of graphics tools can be resized. Most of these operations can be performed either from the window-manager menu or by means of the mouse, as described below. Use of the window-manager menu. To use the window-manager menu, place the mouse pointer on any border of the window to be manipulated, so that the pointer assumes its distinctive window-border shape, and press and hold down the right mouse button. The window-manager menu appears and the pointer again changes it shape. Move the mouse pointer to highlight the desired function, as described below, and release the mouse button. Functions not implemented for the selected window are shown in a lighter typeface. Move. Moves a window to a new location on the display:

1 Select move from the window-manager menu for the window to be moved. Releasing the right mouse button displays an outline around the window. 2 Move the mouse pointer to drag the outline to the new position for the window. 3 Press and release any mouse button to redraw the window within the outline.
Size. Enlarges or reduces the size of the graphics window only:

1 Select size from the window-manager menu for the graphics window. Releasing the right mouse button causes an outline to appear in the upper left corner of the window.

2 Place the mouse pointer where it is desired to place one corner of the window, and press and hold down the left or right mouse button. Move the mouse pointer to stretch the outline to the size desired for the window. 3 Release the mouse button to redraw the window within the outline.
Raise. If two or more windows are superimposed, raise moves the selected window on top of all of the others, exposing it while it hides the windows under it. To view a window entirely hidden by other windows, lower the visible windows until the desired window is visible. To raise a window, select raise from the window-manager menu for the window intended to be viewed. Or place the mouse pointer on a border of the window, and press and release (click) the left mouse button. Lower. If two or more windows are superimposed, lower pushes the currently displayed window to hide it behind all of the others, revealing the window directly under the window that was lowered. Redisplay. If window manipulations have rendered strange the appearance of some of the windows, selecting redisplay from any window redraws the entire graphics display. Close. To blank the display of form and list pop-up windows only, and to cancel the corresponding command, pick kill for the desired form or list window. In addition, selecting another command or menu also cancels the command and blanks the display of the form, the same as selecting kill.
