Efficient
The long range of up to 120m, the level sen sor, the compactness and ease of use and the auto-registration at no extra cost result in up to 50% savings of scan and process ing time compared to conventional laser scanners.

Precise and fast

The Focus3D creates a precise, virtual copy of reality in millimetre-accuracy at a blazing speed of up to 976,000 measurement points per second.

FARO is the leading manufacturer of mobile measuring, documentation and imaging systems. The Focus3D is a revolutionary, high-performance 3D laser scanner with intuitive touchscreen control.

A revolution in 3D laser scanning

Exact measurements in three dimensions: Simply at your fingertips
Industries and users who traditionally work with twodimensional plans and schematic diagrams are increasingly discovering the advantages of three-dimensional planning and documentation tools. Whether it is architecture and plant construction, reverse engineering and quality control or historical preservation and forensics 3D documentation by means of laser scanners offers significant advantages compared with any conventional measuring method. This is because a laser scanner records approximately one million measuring points per second and produces a precise, three-dimensional image of its surroundings. With suitable plug-ins this image can be directly imported into a wide range of software applications. With the Focus3D, FARO now offers a revolutionary new laser scanner that can be very simply and intuitively operated using its touchscreen. Furthermore, it is significantly more compact and more cost-effective than previous models. The Focus3D thus offers everything you might expect from a professional 3D laser scanner with a previously unknown level of simplicity.

Revolutionary simple
Due to its intuitive control concept with touch screen display, the Focus 3D is as easy to operate as a digital camera. The device is also entirely self-contained in operation, so neither additional devices nor cables nor a laptop are needed.

Light-weight and compact

The smallest and lightest laser scanner ever built: At dimensions of just 24 x 20 x 10cm and a weight of only 5kg, the Focus3D is so compact and mobile that you will take it with you wherever you go.

Measurement method

Documentation of indoor environments

With the Focus3D it is possible to quickly produce 3D documentations of interiors and technical installations such as building services, conveyor systems or process installations.

Distance
The scanner uses a laser beam which is reflected back to the scanner by an object. The distance is measured in millimetreaccuracy by the phase shift between the sending and receiving beam.

Vertical angle
The mirror deflects the laser beam in vertical direction onto the same object. The angle is encoded simultaneously with the distance measurement.

Horizontal angle
The laser scanner re volves 360 horizontally. The horizontal angle is encoded simultaneously with the distance meas urement.

Documentation of outdoor environments

The Focus3D is well suited to 3D documenta tion of buildings, building sites, roads and landscape features. Objects within a distance of up to 120m are recorded.

Computation of the 3D coordinate

Distance, vertical angle and horizontal angle make up a polar coordinate (, , ), which is then transformed to a Cartesian coordinate (x, y, z).
