REINTERPRETATION

INSPIRATION: BALINESE ARCHITECTURE

Energy Efficient Tropical House - Seri IDE Competition Team member: Paramita Sari Yuwono, Silvanus P. W. Prayektianto Site area: 300 sqm Footprint area: 125 sqm Role: Design & research Architectural respond to tropical climate had been formulated by the elders throughout the archipelago, and one of them is Balinese architecture. Balinese traditional society still preserved the formula in the traditional villages until today. Each room has its own building, some are enclosed and some are open similar to gazebos. These rooms are tied by spacious lawn for gathering and activities. It demonstrates a modesty how architecture blends with the nature, instead of being superior. Selasar literally means porch or terrace, but it has reinterpreted as open space that works as connectting spaces and also for activities. The site dimension is 10 x 30 meter, and both facade facing the streets.
