This course has been accredited for 4 CPD points with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Course content
Soil and rock properties Principles of earth moving machine design Machine-job applicability and performance Rock drilling and blasting principles Rock ripping and dozing Earth loading methods Earth hauling and conveying equipment Computerised truck dispatch and GPS earth moving applications Optimising system and job layout selection by advanced manual and computerized techniques Safety on site Delegates will also study and personally practice the most updated computer programmes such as Talpac by Runge, FPC, etc. at the university computer centre or on students own laptops for: Machine and earth moving simulation Optimising system selection Machine and earth moving cost analysis Truck dispatching and GPS in earth moving applications
Course lecturer
The lecturer is Prof. Zvi Borowitsh of the Israel Institute of Technology and the Wits School of Mining Engineering, who has extensive academic experience as well as in managing and consulting for large-scale earth moving projects. He specialises in mine excavation, loading and haulage optimisation.
Course Structure
The course is offered over ve consecutive days and can be taken either as part of a formal Wits qualication or as a short course. Participants have a choice of attending the full ve-day course, completing a successful assignment and writing an examination to enable them achieve a full Wits Certicate of Competence; or just to attend the ve-day course and receive a Wits Certicate of Attendance.
