1.0 Introduction
The purpose of this document is to outline the requirements for any CAD drawings and maps prepared for Shannon Graup Unlimited. Software, file naming convention, spatial references / co-ordinate system, object classes structure and definitions, text styles, symbology, metadata, topology rules, and quality assurance and control procedures are identified in the following document. All CAD drawings and maps prepared for Shannon Graup Unlimited are to be completed to the standards laid out below.

2.0 CAD Data Standards

2.1 Software
The AutoCAD software used to prepare any drawings, maps or definition files for Shannon Graup Unlimited is AutoCAD Map 3D 2013.

2.2 File Naming Convention

Naming convention for all data layers and object classes used by Shannon Graup Unlimited is to use Pascal Casing for feature names, separated by an underscore (example: Pascal_Casing). All data layers that are used to produce drawings and maps in AutoCAD for Shannon Graup Unlimited must follow the outlined naming convention to ensure similarity between drawings and maps throughout the company. The naming convention for any AutoCAD drawing or definition file is the 8 digit division code XXXX0000, two digit project ID X0, and the Last name and First initial of the drawing or map creator in Pascal casing. An example of the name for the drawing and definition file created for this Project is GISC9305D1GraupS.dwg and GISC9305D1GraupS.xml.

2.3 Spatial References / Co-ordinate System

The co-ordinate system was not defined in the drawing that was provided for this project. The road layers were assigned the Road Network File Structure from ON1Call Map Standards V1.5 as attributes, and this file structure is regarding roads in Ontario. From this information a coordinate system of NAD83 Zone 17, Meter; Ontario west of 94.5 deg West was assigned to the drawing in AutoCAD.

2.4 Object Classes Structure and Definitions

A definition file was create and an object class was created for four data layers; Contours, Road_Construction, Access_Road and Road_Centre_Line.

2.4.1 Contours
The contours object class is used to define and standardize the colour, layer and linetype properties. Table 1 lists the property attributes (type, range and default) for the contours object class.

2.4.2 Road Construction

The road construction object class is used to define and standardize the colour, layer and linetype properties. Table 2 lists the property attributes (type, range and default) for the road construction object class.

2.4.3 Access Road and Road Centre Line

Before creating an object class for Access_Road and Road_Centre_Line an object data table was created and attached to the data. The object data created and attached to the access roads and road centre lines in the drawing can be seen in Table 3. This table was taken from ON1Call Map Standards V1.5.

The access road object class is used to define and standardize the colour, layer and linetype properties. Table 4 lists the property attributes (type, range and default) for the access road object class, and the object data that was attached to the access roads.

The road centre line object class is used to define and standardize the colour, layer and linetype linetype properties.

2.5 Text Styles

To help standardize any drawings and maps, a common font will be used in all drawings and maps that are created by, or presented to Shannon Graup Unlimited. All fonts in drawings and maps will be Arial, black. Sizes for any labels and annotation should be font size 8, but can vary depending on the visibility of the drawing or map.

2.6 Symbology
Symbology used in any drawing or map for Shannon Graup Unlimited should be standardized. Table 6 lists the symbology used in this project drawing. This symbology should be followed for any further drawings created for Shannon Graup Unlimited.

2.7 Metadata
Metadata is often referred to as data about data. Metadata is descriptive information about data. Metadata should be added and continually updated for any drawings used by Shannon Graup Unlimited. There are five sections of metadata, each with specific requirements. The five sections are identification information, spatial data organization information, spatial reference information, entity and attribute information and metadata reference information. In AutoCAD many metadata fields are updated automatically by the software. Table 7, Table 8, Table 9, and Table 10 list the fields that should be included and updated on any drawings or maps used by Shannon Graup Unlimited.

2.8 Topology Rules

A number of topology rules should be followed to help standardize any drawings for Shannon Graup Unlimited. Break crossing objects will break lines or polylines in the same layer that intersect. This can help to clean up the topology of Road Network lines. A road should be broken into a different segment every time it intersects with another line in the same layer, or another road layer line. Extend undershoots and erase dangling objects are two topology drawing clean-up actions to use on any road network, it is essential that any road segments in a drawing are properly snapped together. Another topology rule that should be followed is to join segments of polylines together that are separate. For example in the contours layer segments of contour polylines together that are the same elevation should be joined together to created one segment. The same is to be said for the roads layer; road segments that do not intersect another road segment should be joined.

2.9 Quality Assurance and Quality Control Procedures

Quality assurance should be completed in two stages or more when creating and editing layers, depending on the size of the project. When digitizing layers standardization of the above listed elements should be check halfway through completion and upon completion. These elements should again be checked when any editing on a drawing is completed.

3.0 Conclusion
The above documentation outlines CAD data standardization procedures that should be used when creating and presenting any drawings or maps to Shannon Graup Unlimited. If these outlines are followed when creating drawings and maps, data can be more easily integrated into Shannon Graup Unlimited company datasets.
