Dr. Magufuli has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chato constituency since 1995 (Known Biharamulo East since 1995 to 2005). He previously served as Deputy Minister of Works from 1995 to 2000, and as Minister of Works from 2000 to 2005 and again current Minister of Works since 2010. He served in the Cabinet from 1995 to 2005 under the governments of Mkapa. He held two Ministry Offices, as Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development from 2005 to 2008 and Minister of Livestock Development and Fisheries from 2008 to 2010 under Kikwete. Dr. Magufuli is a longest serving Minister of Works under the CCM government from 1995 to 2005 and again since 2010.[1]

Early life and education

Magufuli was born in 1959 in Chato, northwestern Tanganyika. He graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 1988 with a degree in Science Education majoring subjects Chemistry and Mathematics.He also attended the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Salford University, U.K between 1991 and 1994 and was awarded a master's degree in Chemistry, his master degree thesis was titled " The Kinetic Study of the thermal Decomposition Kinetics of the Lanthanide (III) Oxalato Hilides (LnCo204X), Ln = Cd, X = C1 and Br" and was later the basis for his research "The effect of I.R Defraction on Lanthanide (III) Oxalato Hilides (LnCo204X), Ln = Gd, X = C1 and Br". In 2006, he went to the University of Dar es Salaam for the PhD - yet he remained a Minister throughout his study. His 2009 PhD thesis was titled "The Potential of Anacardic Acid Self-Assembled Monolayers from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid as Corrosion Protection Coatings" and it argued that potential of the agro-waste, Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) as a novel source of compounds for preparation of Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) with the capability to modify surfaces of engineering metals and protect them against corrosion attack.
