Valve Sizing

Step 1

Identify type of service (Gas / Liquid) Identify the application of the valve (LCV, PCV) and flow characteristic (snap / throttle) Enter the Process Data to software: Specific Gravity Temperature (F, C), Critical Flow Factor (Cf) (Asume 0.75 for first calculation), Upstream Pressure (psig), Downstream Pressure (psig), Flow: (Gas - MMSCFD, CFM, m3/d, m3/h) (Liquids BPD, GMP)

Step 2

Step 3

Valve Sizing

Step 4 Step 5

Calculate Cvp value Multiply the Cvp value by two and find the Cv value in the Kimray tables. Note: Choose a valve that will support the pressure and meets with the application. Divide CVp/CVv and find out if the valve is with in 20% and 80% of its flowing capacity. Second Calculation Introduce the new value for Cf and calculate Cv again. With the Cvv calculate maximum flow when the valve is 100% open.

SCENARIO 1

OPERATION UPSTREAM PRESSURE 903 psig If Upstream Pressure > 903 psig DOWNSTREAM PRESSURE 818 psig ACTION The valve will regulate ay 70% open The the valve opens to releif upstream pressure The valve tends to open and upstreampressure tends to climb up to 910 psig.

818 psig

903 psig

If downstreampre ssure is > 880 Noto: This condition occurs when the gas psig pipeline ovepressures and it is neccesary for the valve to remain open.

Upstream Pressure < 903

818 psig

The valve will colse to build pressure again up to 903 psig.
