Chapter - 1 Introduction IT Sector

IT Sector Since we live in the age of Information Technology IT Sector needs no introducti on. All of us are quite familiar with this term. IT Sector Stands for Informatio n technology sector. It is IT Industry that we live our lives in such an easy going manner. Computers , Mobile Phones, Satellite Television etc. Who would ve thought that everything we do will be possible with just a click of a button. Earlier the computers we use now were not that portable like they are now. They took up rooms just to store a little bit of information. With better research re sults now they even fit in our hands. And that is all possible because of IT sec tor. If we talk about the importance of Information Technology in our economy, Inform ation Technology is an important emerging sector of the Indian economy. The size of this sector has increased at a tremendous rate of 35% per year during the la st 10 years. There is an impression that India is world class in Information Tec hnology (IT). This is mainly due to the success of India s software industry and c ontribution of people of Indian origin in IT revolution in the United States. Th e fact that IT sector in the country has increased at an incredible rate of 35% per year for the last 10 years reinforces the view that India is world class in IT.

TOP IT TRENDS WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT ARE:1. Cloud Computing\Storage:- Although the two terms Cloud Storage and Cloud Computing are different from each other they are somehow related to each other. Cloud storage means "the storage of data online in the cloud," wherein a company 's data is stored in and accessible from multiple distributed and connected reso urces that comprise a cloud. Also, there are main 4 types of cloud storage i.e. Personal cloud storage, Public Cloud Storage, Private Cloud Storage and Hybrid C loud Storage. Personal Cloud Storage:- Also known as mobile cloud storage, personal cloud stor age is a subset of public cloud storage that applies to storing an individual's data in the cloud and providing the individual with access to the data from anyw here. It also provides data syncing and sharing capabilities across multiple dev ices. Apple's iCloud is an example of personal cloud storage. Private Cloud Storage:- A form of cloud storage where the enterprise and cloud s

torage provider are integrated in the enterprise's data center. In private cloud storage, the storage provider has infrastructure in the enterprise's data cente r that is typically managed by the storage provider. Private cloud storage helps resolve the potential for security and performance concerns while still offerin g the advantages of cloud storage. Public Cloud Storage:- Public cloud storage is where the enterprise and storage service provider are separate and there aren't any cloud resources stored in the enterprise's data center. The cloud storage provider fully manages the enterpri se's public cloud storage. Hybrid Cloud Storage:- Hybrid cloud storage is a combination of public and priva te cloud storage where some critical data resides in the enterprise's private cl oud while other data is stored and accessible from a public cloud storage provid er. Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted s ervices over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categor ies: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (Paas) and Softwa re-as-a-Service (SaaS). Infrastructure-as-a-Service:- Infrastructure-as-a-Service like Amazon Web Servic es provides virtual server instance API(Application Programming Interface) to st art, stop, access and configure their virtual servers and storage. In the enterp rise, cloud computing allows a company to pay for only as much capacity as is ne eded, and bring more online as soon as required. Because this pay-for-what-you-u se model resembles the way electricity, fuel and water are consumed, it's someti mes referred to as utility computing. Platform-as-a-Service:- Platform-as-a-service in the cloud is defined as a set of software and product development tools hosted on the provider's infrastructur e. Developers create applications on the provider's platform over the Internet. PaaS providers may use APIs, website portals or gateway software installed on th e customer's computer. Force.com, (an outgrowth of Salesforce.com) and GoogleApp s are examples of PaaS. Software-as-a-Service:- in the software-as-a-service cloud model, the vendor sup plies the hardware infrastructure, the software product and interacts with the u ser through a front-end portal. SaaS is a very broad market. Services can be any thing from Web-based email to inventory control and database processing. Because the service provider hosts both the application and the data, the end user is f ree to use the service from anywhere. 2. 3-D Printing:- 3D Printing is just like our regular printing except the fact that it also has the 3rd dimension in the addition of the regular two i.e. z-axis added to the regular x-axis and y-axis or height added to length and brea th. While 3D printing technology has been around since the 1980s, it was not unt il the early 2010s that the printers became widely available commercially becaus e of their high cost. Various types of printers use different types of materials to print. Some soften or melt the material to print, some use the powdered form of printing material etc. material that are used to print varies from thermoplastics to powdered meta ls and alloys including Plasticine, modeling clay, porcelain, metal clay etc. 3. Wearable Technology:- As the name suggests Wearable Technology means tec h gadgets we can wear. Google Goggles, Samsung Smart watch and Motorola s new upco ming moto 360 are the perfect examples of wearable technology. 4. No Touch Interface:- No touch interface means we can use the devices wit hout touching them by the uses of various sensors like proximity sensor, motion sensor and many more. The most common example of no touch interface is voice rec ognition in which we have to speak to use the device rather than to touch it. Ex amples of voice recognition is Apple s Siri and Google Voice. 5. Augmented Reality:- A technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. It gi

ves user the feel that something which in reality is not there, exists there. 6. E-Commerce:- E-Commerce is most widely known trend in the technology fie ld. All the online commercial transactions that we make is E-Commerce. This tech nology is now so advanced that now we can buy from a wide range of products even from our mobile without even going anywhere. Examples for e-commerce are myntra .com, snapdeal.com, yepme.com etc. 7. Virtualization:- Virtualization is the technology which helps to make a Virtual image of something which exists in real or what you want that should exi st in reality in simple terms virtualization is simulation, i.e. recreating some thing with the help of computer technology. Virtualization technology is mostly used in architecture in which they need to know how it will look like what they are planning out the maps. It is also used for training etc. 8. Massively Online:- It is already pretty much everything that we can do o nline but when we say massively online it means that there is a lot more to it. Currently we interact with people, buy products, watch random videos etc. but th e time isn t far when we can do everything online. For example many universities h ave started MOOCS which stands for massively online open courses. In which one c an study online under the guidance of university instructor.
