Safety information
Electrical safety
To prevent electrical shock hazard, disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet before relocating the system. When adding or removing devices to or from the system, ensure that the power cables for the devices are unplugged before the signal cables are connected. If possible, disconnect all power cables from the existing system before you add a device. Before connecting or removing signal cables from the motherboard, ensure that all power cables are unplugged. Seek professional assistance before using an adapter or extension cord. These devices could interrupt the grounding circuit. Make sure that your power supply is set to the correct voltage in your area. If you are not sure about the voltage of the electrical outlet you are using, contact your local power company. If the power supply is broken, do not try to fix it by yourself. 1 Before you proceed

Take note of the following precautions before you install motherboard components or change any motherboard settings. Unplug the power cord from the wall socket before touching any component. Use a grounded wrist strap or touch a safely grounded object or a metal object, such as the power supply case, before handling components to avoid damaging them due to static electricity. Hold components by the edges to avoid touching the ICs on them. Whenever you uninstall any component, place it on a grounded antistatic pad or in the bag that came with the component. Before you install or remove any component, ensure that the ATX power supply is switched off or the power cord is detached from the power supply. Failure to do so may cause severe damage to the motherboard, peripherals, and/or components. Before you install the motherboard, study the configuration of your chassis to ensure that the motherboard fits into it. Make sure to unplug the power cord before installing or removing the motherboard. Failure to do so can cause you physical injury and damage motherboard components.

4 System memory
Installing a SO-DIMM
WARNING: Unplug the power supply before adding or removing SO-DIMMs or other system components. Failure to do so can cause severe damage to both the motherboard and the components. To install a SO-DIMM: 1. Firmly insert a SO-DIMM into the socket at a 30 angle with the notch on the SO-DIMM matching the break on the socket. 2. Push down on the SO-DIMM until the retaining clips click into place.

(This is only an example.)

NOTE: A SO-DIMM is keyed with a notch so that it fits in only one direction. Do not force a SO-DIMM into a socket to avoid damaging the SO-DIMM.

Removing a SO-DIMM
Follow these steps to remove a SO-DIMM: 1. Simultaneously press the retaining clips outward to unlock the SODIMM. The SO-DIMM will automatically pop up. 2. Remove the SO-DIMM from the socket.

(This is only an example.)

TIP: Support the SO-DIMM lightly with your fingers when pressing the retaining clips. The SO-DIMM might get damaged when it flips out with extra force.

5 Expansion slot
In the future, you may need to install expansion cards. The following shows the slot and the expansion card that it supports.

Installing an expansion card

IMPORTANT: Make sure to unplug the power cord before adding or removing expansion cards. Failure to do so may cause you physical injury and damage motherboard components. To install an expansion card: 1. Before installing the expansion card, read the documentation that came with it and make the necessary hardware settings for the card. 2. Remove the system unit cover (if your motherboard is installed in a chassis). 3. Remove the bracket opposite the slot that you intend to use. 4. Align the card connector with the slot and press firmly until the card is completely seated on the slot. 5. Secure the card to the chassis with the screw you removed earlier. 6. Replace the system cover.

6 Selectors
Clear CMOS and password
This selector allows you to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM and password in CMOS. You can clear the CMOS memory of date, time, system setup parameters, and passwords by erasing the CMOS RTC RAM data. IMPORTANT: Except when using this function, do not remove the jumper cap from the default position or else there may be a system boot failure!
To clear the password and setting: 1. Turn OFF the computer. 2. Move the cap to Clear. 3. Turn ON the computer to POST screen. 4. Turn OFF the computer. 5. Move the cap back to Default. 6. Enter BIOS setup to verify or configure new settings.

7 Connectors
ATX power connector
This connector is for the ATX power supply plug. The power supply plug is designed to fit this connector in only one orientation. Find the proper orientation and push down firmly until the connector completely fits. NOTE: Use of a power supply unit (PSU) with a higher power output is recommended when configuring a system with more power-consuming devices. The system may become unstable or may not boot up if the power is inadequate. NOTE: Make sure that your PSU can provide at least the minimum power required by your system. NOTE: If you intend to use an older PSU with 20-pin and 4-pin power plugs, make sure that the 20-pin power plug can provide at least 15A on +12V and that the PSU has a minimum power rating of 350 W. The system may become unstable or may not boot up if the power is inadequate. NOTE: You must install a PSU with a higher power rating if you intend to install additional devices.

This connector is for a chassis-mounted front panel audio I/O module that supports HD Audio. NOTE: It is recommended that you connect a high-definition front panel audio module to this connector to utilize this motherboards high-definition audio capability.

These connectors are for USB 2.0 ports. Connect a USB module cable to any of these connectors, then install the module to a slot opening at the back of the system chassis. Doing so will damage the motherboard!

System power LED (2-pin PLED) This 2-pin connector is for the system power LED. Connect the chassis power LED cable to this connector. The system power LED lights up when you turn on the system power. Hard disk drive activity LED (2-pin +HDLED) This 2-pin connector is for the HDD Activity LED. Connect the HDD Activity LED cable to this connector. The IDE LED lights up or flashes when data is read from or written to the HDD. ATX power button/soft-off button (2-pin PWRBTN) This connector is for the system power button. Pressing the power button turns the system on or puts the system in sleep or soft-off mode depending on the BIOS settings. Pressing the power switch for more than four seconds while the system is ON turns the system OFF. Reset button (2-pin RESET) This 2-pin connector is for the chassis-mounted reset button for system reboot without turning off the system power.

When the computer first starts up (before entering Windows), press and hold the <Del> key to enter the BIOS setup program. (Press <Ctrl+Alt+Delete> to restart if you missed the opportunity.) NOTE: Default BIOS settings apply for most conditions to ensure optimum performance. If this system becomes unstable after changing any BIOS settings, load the default settings to ensure system compatibility and stability. Find the load default options under the Exit Menu.

The message Password Installed appears after you successfully set your password. To change the supervisor password, follow the same steps as in setting a user password. To clear the supervisor password, select the Change Supervisor Password then press <Enter>. The message Password Uninstalled appears. NOTE: If you forget your BIOS password, you can clear it by erasing the CMOS Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM. See your hardware documentation for information on how to erase the RTC RAM.

Change User Password Select this item to set or change the user password. The User Password item on the top of the screen shows the default Not Installed. The Exit menu items allow you to load the optimal or failsafe default values for the BIOS items, and save or discard your changes to the BIOS items. Save Changes and Exit Once you are finished making your selections, choose this option from the Exit menu to ensure the values you selected are saved to the CMOS RAM. An onboard backup battery sustains the CMOS RAM so it stays on even when the PC is turned off. When you select this option, a confirmation window appears. Select Ok to save changes and exit. NOTE: If you attempt to exit the Setup program without saving your changes, the program prompts you with a message asking if you want to save your changes before exiting. Press <Enter> to save the changes while exiting. Discard Changes and Exit Select this option only if you do not want to save the changes that you made to the Setup program. If you made changes to fields other than System Date, System Time, and Password, the BIOS asks for a confirmation before exiting.

Discard Changes This option allows you to discard the selections you made and restore the previously saved values. After selecting this option, a confirmation appears. Select Ok to discard any changes and load the previously saved values. Load Optimal Defaults This option restores BIOS fields to their factory defaults to run the system at optimal performance. When you select this option, a confirmation window appears. Select Y to load defaults. Make sure you save changes before exiting. Load Failsafe Defaults If you made changes to this BIOS setup utility and your system becomes unstable as a result, select this option to restore BIOS fields to their low performance settings to troubleshoot BIOS setting problems. When you select this option, a confirmation window appears. Select Y to load defaults. Make sure you save changes before exiting.
