Crime
Noun: an illegal act

Murder
Noun: the crime of killing someone purposefully
Verb: to kill someone in a deliberate way

Murderer
Noun: a person who kills someone

Violent
Adjective: meant to hurt someone by using force
Crimes can be violent. Murder is violent, but fraud is not.

Punishment
Noun: suffering that is a result a crime or bad behavior.

Courtroom Terms (people)

Guilty
Adjective: having a broken a law Guilt=Noun: 1. responsibility for a crime or for doing something bad or wrong 2. a bad feeling caused by knowing or thinking that you have done something bad or wrong

Innocent
Adjective: not having broken a law (not guilty of a crime) Innocence=Noun:
1. the state of being innocent 2. lack of experience with the world and with the bad things that happen in life

Noun: right and fair treatment

Fair
Adjective: treating people equally (in a way that does not favor some over others)

Prison (or Jail)

Noun: a building where people are kept as punishment for a crime

Life Sentence
Noun: the punishment of being sent to prison for the rest of your life

Capital Punishment
Noun: the punishment of being executed (the death penalty); the government takes the life of someone who has committed a crime

Noun: the act of killing someone legally

Adjective: causing pain of suffering because you want to

Noun: a person who legally belongs to a country (he or she has the rights and protection of that country)

Noun: the legal right to belong to a certain country

Noun: a person who is from a country that is not your own

Noun: a person who comes to a country to live there permanently

Verb: come to live permanently in a foreign country
