Torsion bar

Torsion bars are functions as a spring. One end is fixed firmly in place to the chassis or frame of a vehicle. Other end of the bar may be attached to the axle, suspension or spindle depending on the vehicle design.

Torsion bar (present demand)

Lower weight- the designer seek to reduce weight with every single opportunity. Safe design- without affect working nature.

Need of composite material

High strength- weight ratio.

Increasing availability due to advancements in their manufacturing processes.

Selection of material
Varieties of composite material available- one with the basic requirements of the torsion bar is needed. E glass fiber reinforced composite material replacing steel torsion bar.

E glass fiber reinforced composite material

Glass fiber with polymeric matrices- widely used in various commercial products. Low cost, corrosion resistance, efficient manufacturing potential. High elongation, moderate strength and weight, corrosion resistance. Lower cost relative to other composites.
