Asaresultofmyresearchandplanningintothevariousformsandconventionsinvolvingmusicvideos,myownvideo combinesthesefeatureswhilstdevelopingitsownstyleofproduction.Forinstance,myresearchallowedmetodiscover thatthemajorityofvideosthatfallintothegenreofPop/Rockallcontainasimilarnarrative.Thenarrativeofthemusic videocoincideswiththeoutlayofthesong,sothemusicvideoprovidesavisualrepresentationofthethemeand meaningofthesong.ConsideringthatmychoiceofmusicfallsunderthecategoryofRock/Pop,Idecidedtoendorsethis conventionandstructuremyvideointhisfashion.MysongchoiceformymusicvideowasOneRepublicStopandStare, inmyresearchIhadalreadyanalysedtheformsandconventionsapparentinthisvideo.Aftercomparingthismusicvideo toothersofdifferentgenre,Inoticedthatitwasdistinctlydifferentfromtheconventionalformsexpectedofthesemusic videos.Forinstance,Imentionedinmyresearchthattherewasnoclearnarrativestructurewhichisunusualforamusic videooftheRock/Popgenre.However,havingviewedavideowhichchallengedtheconventionalnarrativestructure,I decidedthatitwouldbebestsuitedthatmyvideodoesindeedadheretotheconventionsofthenarrativestructure.This meansthatmymusicvideohadaclearnarrativewiththemesandameaningbehindit. Onewayinwhichmyvideochallengestheconventionsofmusicvideosisthelocationofthefilming.Inrecenttimes,the popularityofmusicvideoshasreachedanalltimehighthankstowebsitessuchasYouTube.Thishasforcedthequalityof musicvideostoimproveaswell,tokeepupwiththegrowinginterestwithmusicvideos.Withthedemandforhigher qualitymeansbiggerbudgetsandfocuscanbededicatedtothemusicvideo,withartistschoosingamultitudeof glamorouslocationsthatcontributetotheoverallviewingexperience.WhereasinmyvideoIhaddecidedtochoosea locationthatwouldworkinaccordancewiththenarrative.Thisbeingthattheprimaryfocusofthemusicvideowasto emphasisethecharactersdevelopmentinthecontextofthenarrativeratherthancommittingtodifferentareasof productionsuchasthelocation.

ThroughouttheconstructionofmymainproductandancillarytasksIhavemadeitaprioritytomaintainacontinuationof consistency.Forexample,thelinkbetweenthemusicvideoandthefrontcoverforthemagazineisevidentfromthe imageusedtakendirectlyfromthevideo.IfeltasifthemoreIplacedimagesanddesignsrelatingtothemusicvideoonto associatedproductswouldhelppotentialaudiencesandconsumerstodistinguishacorrelationandimprovethechances ofattractingawarenessofmyproduct.Itwasmyintentionthatthiscontinuationwouldincreasetheeffectivenessofthe combinationbetweenthetwotasks. AnotherreasonIchosetoincludepartsofmymusicvideointheancillarytasksisduetothenarrativeofthevideo.AsI haveeludedtoinpreviousevaluationquestions,mymusicvideoevolvesaroundasoleprotagonistwiththemesof isolationandremoteness.Havingcreatedavideothathadthepotentialtoevokeanemotionresponsefromtheviewers, throughvicariousmeanstheycouldpossiblyrelatetothemaincharacterofthevideo.Thereforeiftheonenotable featureofthemusicvideowouldbethecharacter,thenitwouldbewisetobrandishthatcharacteracrossrelated products.

3)Whathaveyoulearnedfromyou audiencefeedback?

FrommyaudiencefeedbackIhavelearntthatwhilsttheyappreciatedandrecognisedthenarrativebehindthemusic video,themajorityofthefeedbackwassurroundingthelackoffeaturesotherthanthatconcerningthemaincharacter. Thisseemedtobethegeneralconsensus,afterreceivingthisinformationIcanunderstandthecommentsmaderegarding theflawsofthevideo,thiswasaproblemIhadanticipatedwhenplanningthemusicvideointhepreliminarystages.AsI mentionedpreviously,Iplayedaroundwiththeformsandconventionsofmusicvideostructure.ButwhenIwasplanning thenarrativeforthemusicvideo,Ihadapproachedtheplanningwithamindsetthatwaspreparedtochallengeand maintaintheconventionsofamusicvideo.Thislineiswellrepresentedintheaudiencefeedbackbecauseitisoutlined wellthatIshouldhavedoneabetterjobtoconsiderbalancingtheboundariesbetweenconventions. Asidefromtheconstructivecommentsaboutthedownsideofmymusicvideo,Ididreceivesomefeedbackaboutthe positivesofthemusicvideo.Acoupleofpeopleenjoyedthefastpacedsequencesandtransitions,allpayinghomageto theeditingofthemusicvideo.IfoundthesecommentstobethemostsurprisingasIfeltthatIpersonallystruggledtoedit themusicvideoduetoalackofknowledgeandexperience.Oneortwoalsoadmiredtheeffectivenessofacoupleor camerashotslocatedinthemiddleofthevideo,sayingthattheresourcefulnesstoutiliseonlyonelocationoffilmingbut stillmanagingtoshootavarietyofdifferentangleswasimpressive.Theoveralllessonoftheaudiencefeedbackisthatit wasgoodinsomeplaces,butlapsesinplanningandjudgementmayhavecausedtheendproducttobeatthestandardI hadhoped.WiththisfeedbackandknowledgeandexperiencegainedfromthemusicvideoproductionIbelievethatI couldperformthesametaskmuchbetterinthefuture.

Throughouttheentiretyoftheresearchandplanningprocess,IusedanonlinewebsitecalledStudentsWeeblyto completethemajorityofmywork.Thetechnologybasedonthiswebsitecontainedtoolssuchascreatingpages,YouTube videoinputandimageinsertion.Thesefeaturescontributedtothedevelopmentofmyresearchandfurtheredmyplanning. TheinternetitselfwastheprimarysourceofinformationIusedtogatherresearchandimagesthatwereusedinmypages onWeebly.ThesynergythatoccurredbetweentheinternetandWeeblyassistedmyeffortsofresearchandplanninggreatly asbothexistedonasimilarplaneofsystem. Anotherbigmediatechnologythathelpedmeconstructathoroughcombinationofresearch,planningandevaluationwas theonlinevideosharingsitecalledYouTube.Consideringthatthefocusoftheresearchandplanningsurroundedthetopic ofmusicvideos,YouTubewasindeedavaluableassetinhelpingmelocateandobtaintherightmaterialthatcouldbenefit mywork.TheeaseatwhichavideocouldbeinputtedontomyWeeblypagewasparticularlyusefulasIcouldupload multiplevideosinashortspaceoftime.Ultimately,withoutYouTubeIwouldnthavefoundthevideosIdesiredtoanalyse andevaluatewhichcouldcontributetomyimprovementofknowledgeandunderstandingofconstructingthefinalproduct.
