Norwood Elementary School Introduces: Kid Inventors Club!

Dear 3rd Grade Parents, The Inventors Club was created to enhance students critical thinking skills and creativity. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to solve real-world problems. The club will meet on Friday mornings from 7:15- 8:15 a.m. in room 14. The club will run for 8 weeks. It is the responsibility of the parent to transport their child to school every Friday morning. Students will not be allowed to enter the building before 7:15 a.m. The chart on the back page provides information on the meeting dates and sample lessons for each session. Instructional Outcome/Sample Lesson Introduction: Students will be introduced to the Engineering Design Process in order to implement the process when solving realworld problems. Step 1: Students will ask questions in order to identify a real-world problem that affects students their age. Step 2: Students will identify a real-world problem and imagine how to solve it. Students will conduct research in order to gain knowledge on how to create or improve a solution to a problem. Step 3: Students will plan how to solve a real-world problem by using 3-D technology to design a solution. Step 3: Students will plan how to solve a real-world problem by using 3-D technology to design a solution. Step 4: Students will create a solution to a real-world problem using recycled materials and/or a 3-D printer. Step 4: Students will create a solution to a real-world problem using recycled materials and/or a 3-D printer. Step 5: Students will improve their solution by revisiting the prior steps of the Engineering Design Process. Closing: Students will celebrate their hard work and dedication by sharing their solution with the group and visitors.
