Daniel Strizak Lesson plan Standards: (Living Environment) 1.

1f: Every population is linked, directly or indirectly, with many others in an ecosystem. Disruptions in the numbers and types of species and environmental changes can upset ecosystem stability. (Technology) 1. Engineering design is an iterative process involving modeling and optimization used to develop technological solutions to problems within given constraints Objectives: A) The students will create a food web including producers, herbivore and carnivore organisms. B) The Students will explore what happens when each factor of the food web is manipulated. Learning Activity: A) In groups student will research a member of the food web (Producer, Herbivore, Carnivore) and draw their member of the food web on an online whiteboard program. B) Students will observe and/or make changes on the food web and have to explain what would happen to the other populations. Provide Information: A) Producers- Plants, create their own energy from photosynthesis. B) Herbivores consume producers and gain energy through that. C) Carnivores consume meat (herbivores) and will get energy through it. D) Energy is lost the higher up the food chain it goes. E) Awwapp.com online white board where the food web will be manipulated (this can be accessed through my website) F) Student.plattsburgh.edu/DStri002 G) Paint, Photoshop and Gimp are all on the computers to use. Knowledge of results: A) Written feedback will be due as homework the next day. This will sum up what they learned about their part of the food chain, producers, herbivores, carnivores, and what they think would happen when an invasive species is introduced. B) Oral feedback will be given in class as the food web is manipulated. Review Activity: A) On Awwapp.com students will look at the whiteboard and suggest a change to make, another group will have to explain this manipulation B) The instructor will manipulate the board (Invasive species, increasing producer, increasing herbivore, adding predator to carnivore [a change a student has not yet made]) Methods of Assessment:

(Living Environment) 1.1f: Students will create their own food web using an online whiteboard program and explain the effect changes (i.e. removing an organism, adding an organism, or increasing/decreasing population of an organism) would have on that food web. 1. (Technology) 1. Students will create a food web as a class on an online whiteboard program, and have to explain effects on the population based on problems created by another student/instructor.
