PLEASE ACT ACCORDINGLY
Use this tool to draw bent steel stair pans. There are options to fill pans wit
h concrete and for
detailing purposes there is an option for auto-dimensioning.
This function was written for AutoCAD R13 for Windows, but should work in all ve
rsions of AutoCAD
R11 and R12.
1) To use this or any AutoLISP file (*.lsp), you must first load the file. You
can load this lisp
file by typing at the command prompt:
Command: (load "str_pans")
Note: All files in the steel stair pans zip file must reside in your AutoCAD
search path.
2) Steel Stair Pans
Command: Steel_Stair_Pans
Shortkey command: SSP
This command gives you access to the steel stair pans dialog box.

All stair pans, concrete fill and dimensions are drawn on the current layer.
So you must set
the correct layer before running this command.
3) Selecting a stair type
There are three basic types of stair pan configuration. Square nosing, slope
d nosing, and
sloped riser pans. These are reflected in a row of radio buttons along the t
op of the dialog
box, with the heading "Select stair type".

Note: All pans have an offset nosing of 1 inch.
Bend dimensions allow for 3/4 inch grip.
Square nosing pans have an overlap of nosing minus 1/2 inch.

4) Selecting a stair pan type

There are four basic types of stair pans to choose from. Riser pan, stair pa
n, closing pan, and
landing pan. These types of stair pans are reflected in a row of radio butto
ns with the heading
"Select pan type".

a) Riser pan is used to close the opening riser at the bottom of a stair.

b) Stair pan is used as the typical intermediate pan.

c) Closing pan is used at the top of a stair to close the landing.

d) Landing pan is used to close the riser at landings.

5) Tread dimensions

To establish the tread dimensions you must provide values for tread width, ri
ser height, and
pan fill depth. Distance from nose to nose is an automatically fill in if wi
dth and height
are provided.

You can use the pick buttons for each dimension to pick distances from the sc
reen.

It is strongly recommended that you use the nose to nose dimension pick butto
n to establish
distances for width and height if you are laying out a stair. This will prov
ide exact
dimensions. Riser heights can vary along with the nose to nose dimension, us
ing this option
can produce more accurate pan dimensions. No longer does the detailer have t
o adjust the
opening riser dimension to make the stair fabricatable.

Concrete fill depth is the tread depth.

Landing fill depth is the thickness of the landing.

6) Selecting a steel gage
Bent steel stair pans are made from sheet metal at varying thickness. A pop
down list provides
a list of different sheet metal gages to choose from. The default thickness
is 12 gage.

The thickness for the selected gages were taken from the AISC steel manual.

7) Draw concrete fill
Selecting the draw concrete fill toggle in the extras box, will fill the pan
with a concrete
hatch pattern.

8) Auto-dimension
Selecting the auto-dimension toggle in the extras box, will automatically dim
ension the pan.
This is generally used when detailing the stair pan for fabrication.

You will be asked to drag dimension placements. It is recommended that you u
se associative
dimensioning, and that a plotted scale no smaller than 4" = 12" be used, beca
use of sheet metal
thickness.

Note: When dimensioning sloped nosing or sloped risers there is no pitch d
imension included.
Download the Design Point pitch symbol command for adding pitch tria
ngles to your
details.

9) OK button
Picking the OK button will draw the selected stair pan. All pans are based o
n the nosing
point, and will be prompted for.

If required tread dimensions are not provided, the command can not continue a
nd an error
message will prompt you for the dimension required.

After the nosing point is selected you will be prompted to drag the direction
of the pan.
The stair pan will toggle around the nosing point. When the direction is des
ired hit your
pointing device pick button and the pan will be drawn.

10) Cancel button

The Cancel button closes the dialog box without doing anything.

11) About button:
The ABOUT button at the bottom of the dialog box will display the version nu
mber of this
command and email address for comments and/or suggestions. Flame mail and S
PAM will will
only end up in my recycle bin.

Because this is SHAREWARE, there is no support for this function, so please
conduct
yourself accordingly. Even though lengths have been taken to ensure this fu
nction is bug
free, in my experience bugs only crop up after software is made available fo
r use. Life
can be like that. Respond to the email address in the about box to report a
ny known bugs,
and I'll do what I can if I think it's warranted.
